Come and Eat, Shan Shan Chapter 2

Shan Shan has been healthy since young.  Losing 300CC of blood is nothing.  She happily rests at home for a few days then returns to work.

Xue Shan Shan does not know that the balance in her life is fated to begin tilting.

As soon as she gets to work, Shan Shan is called into her irritated manager’s office to be yelled at because she had signed off reports with missing data.  Feng Teng is a large conglomerate, encompa.s.sing subsidiaries in several industries.  Each subsidiary is different, which affects the allocation of the accounting numbers.  Shan Shan is an inexperienced new employee, only observing when colleagues show her how to prepare reports, then signing the reports when the colleagues finish.  The manager knows this, but he does not like this new employee so seizes this opportunity to harp on the issue.

Actually, Shan Shan has not done anything wrong.  Her only mistake is that she is not qualified yet still got accepted by a conglomerate known for its harsh recruitment standards.  Graduates from non-prestigious universities are normally not accepted.  Also, the manager had in mind someone else better who lost to Shan Shan.  The manager is an upright old man who suspects Shan Shan had used backdoor connections so he naturally dislikes her.

Working at Feng Teng, Shan Shan sometimes feels guilty.  Although she graduated from a university in “Project 211” with competent English and computer skills, there is still a big difference when compared to other colleagues with outstanding resumes.  She had completed the online employment application with friends. She did not place much hope on it but who know she would be accepted?

The manager concludes: “Third-rate University, third-rate education.  Don’t know why Human Resources selected you, but you better think of a way to pa.s.s the probation period.”  Shan Shan sadly walks out of his office.

Probation period oh probation period, not sure if Big Boss has seen her willingness to donate blood and lets her pa.s.s the probation period so …… at least ….. in the future, there is a human blood bank always available.

One salary, two usefulness, indeed very cost-effective……..

Oh, Shan Shan suddenly thinks of something, was she selected because of her rare blood type?  Looking back, she had thought it strange that stating the blood type was required when filling out an employment application.

Shan Shan being yelled at by the manager did not attract the attention of her colleagues, most of whom are busy with their own work, which makes a sad Shan Shan all the more sad.

Two colleagues selected at the same time as Shan Shan have found people from their alma mater, transitioning smoothly into the work environment, Shan Shan feels lost as if she is walking on a road to nowhere.  This makes her, who from the time she was little has always had good relations.h.i.+ps with other people, feels somewhat frustrated and inevitably, she begins to doubt if her ability is really lacking.

This is actually not her fault. First, it is because Feng Teng’s corporate culture focuses on efficiency and calmness. Secondly, it is because colleagues feel Xue Shan Shan’s dubious qualifications mean she must have a supporter. Everyone keeps their distance before this can be cleared up, not too far not too close – this is one of the survival rules in the complex relations.h.i.+ps at large companies.

But this new employee who is usually naive, is tight-lipped on this matter. Colleagues have beat around the bush here and there but have not uncovered any clues.

But at noon today, a clue finally emerges in the mystery of Xue Shan Shan’s supporter.

The President’s senior secretary, Linda, stands in the doorway of the Finance Department holding a lunch box that clashes with her beautiful appearance: “Who is Miss Xue Shan Shan?”

Shan Shan looks in puzzlement at her colleagues and then stands up.  “I am.”

From the whispers and strange expressions of her colleagues, Xue Shan Shan guesses this young woman is not simple and could not help but cries inside ……

It cannot be, signing off on wrong reports with missing data, even upper management is alerted?  They even sent someone who has not finished her lunch here to get her ……

Xue Shan Shan stiffly stands and watches Linda come toward her, stopping in front of her.

Then Linda smiles and says: “Miss Xue.  h.e.l.lo, I’m Linda.  President Feng told me to bring you lunch.”

President Feng?  Lunch?

The colleagues’ mouths involuntarily drop into an O …… can it be …… Xue Shan Shan’s supporter …… is, is actually the President?

Of course, if they bother to look at Xue Shan Shan, they will see her mouth opened wider than theirs.

Linda smoothes her sleeves and leaves the lunch box. The colleagues leave for lunch looking pensive.  Xue Shan Shan is the only one left in the office, movingly opens the lunch box from a capitalist.

Although there are no abalones or bird’s nests, the lunch looks delicious.  Rice, fried liver, fried beef, boiled spinach, seaweed salad, fried mushrooms and eggs.

There are also carrot slices, a red bean soup with sweet apples.

These food ….. to replenish blood, right?

Previously immersed in the warmth of capitalism, Shan Shan suddenly feels a foreboding, something has happened to Big Boss’s sister so Big Boss wants to fatten her up because he needs more blood.
