Yang Ruicai was infuriated and smashed his phone onto the floor. “d.a.m.n it! Who the h.e.l.l do you think you are? A mere chief dares to speak to me with such a haughty tone?”

Yang Ruicai tried to regain his composure after cursing. He adjusted his suit and quickly walked out of the office.

He knocked on the door next to his office and walked in politely. “Chairman, w.a.n.g Hua’an refused to listen. He went as far as telling me that he was unsure of this matter and denied all responsibility. I told him very clearly that we are willing to compensate a maximum of one million yuan and give the house to the s.h.i.+ family. But w.a.n.g Hua’an insisted on prosecuting Qin Huaiyuan!”

The chairman was an elderly man of sixty years or so. After hearing that, he asked, “Did you speak to w.a.n.g Hua’an clearly?”

“Chairman, I did. And I even mentioned that the Munic.i.p.al Party Committee’s Secretary Yang is my relative, and also that our group plans to invest in Da Hua Electronics. He chose to ignore it all and hang up.”

The chairman narrowed his eyes and said, “Now that is weird. w.a.n.g Hua’an fears Hu Jianjun the most amongst those who sought justice for the s.h.i.+ family today. And this was done by his son. Even if it was Hu Jianjun himself, he would have to show some respect when he heard the name “Kaixuan Group.” But why did w.a.n.g Hua’an act like that? Does he have some grudge against Qin Huaiyuan?”

“That shouldn’t be possible,” Yang Ruicai quickly replied. “Although Qin Huaiyuan is slightly overbearing and might be disliked by some, I don’t think he would make w.a.n.g Hua’an his enemy. Moreover, w.a.n.g Hua’an is a government official. He should have no business with Da Hua Electronics. It might be possible that Qin Huaiyuan has made enemies in the subbureau. Our lawyer went over and noticed that they were really strict about this. They were told that this was w.a.n.g Hua’an’s instructions and that he had ordered them to investigate this case thoroughly not long after the incident occurred.”

The chairman lightly knocked on the table and said, “How about this: go and pay a visit to w.a.n.g Hua’an and bring your relative along. We shall see exactly where he stands.”

Yang Ruicai agreed and exited the room. He drove to Run Zhou after giving Little Mi a call and informing her that he could no longer meet her.

Yang Ruicai finally reached Run Zhou at half-past nine. He let his distant cousin know on his way there and when he picked him up, Yang Ruicai gave w.a.n.g Hua’an another call.

The dinner on s.h.i.+ Lei’s side had just ended and they were about to change places to converse further when w.a.n.g Hua’an saw Yang Ruicai’s caller ID appear on his phone again. He smiled and waved his phone. “It looks like Manager Yang has arrived at Run Zhou and has probably brought that secretary from the Munic.i.p.al Party Committee with him,” he informed s.h.i.+ Lei and the others.

Wei Qing smiled slightly. “Answer it,” Song Miaomiao said simply.

w.a.n.g Hua’an nodded and picked up.

“Chief w.a.n.g, I am in Run Zhou now with my cousin. I’m not sure if you are free at the moment. Do you want to arrange to meet somewhere and have a chat?” Yang Ruicai went straight to the point and his tone was slightly unfriendly.

w.a.n.g Hua’an said, “I just finished dinner and was planning to go to a teahouse near the riverside for some tea. You and Secretary Yang can join me if you don’t mind.”

They strolled over to the riverside, since it was not far from the restaurant. Zhang Meimei told them that she had other matters to attend to and left for her hotel.

They saw Secretary Yang standing with a man about forty years old when they arrived.

“Haha, excuse us. We drank a bit, so we walked over instead of driving. You two are early.” w.a.n.g Hua’an greeted Secretary Yang with a smile.

“Chief w.a.n.g sure is busy. It was rather difficult to meet you for a chat.” Yang Ruicai didn’t open his mouth, but Secretary Yang replied coldly. He was obviously annoyed with him.

Even in a normal situation, w.a.n.g Hua’an would not give Secretary Yang any face. He was only polite to show some respect to the vice mayor. If Secretary Yang was kind with his words, then w.a.n.g Hua’an might remind him about a thing or two on account of them being peers. But since the man thought he was so amazing, w.a.n.g Hua’an didn’t even bother with the thought.

“Secretary Yang sure loves to joke. We are all public servants and we are always busy for our people. We can’t only be helping our relatives all the time.”

Secretary Yang’s face darkened immediately with just that one sentence. w.a.n.g Hua’an was obviously being sarcastic, suggesting that he had nothing better to do after work and could only hang out with his relatives.

The two from Procuratorate tried to smooth things over and said, “Let’s go in and talk instead of standing outside in this cold weather. You go first, Secretary Yang.”

Secretary Yang snorted and he went in first with hands behind his back.

They asked for a private room after entering the shop and all of them settled down.

Afterward, Yang Ruicai and Secretary Yang could not help but look at s.h.i.+ Lei, Wei Qing, and Song Miaomiao. They only glanced at s.h.i.+ Lei briefly. Although he was wearing branded clothes that cost above ten thousand, it was not enough to attract their attention. Song Miaomiao’s image was more unique. She may be a beauty, but her buzz cut was definitely not common. Only Wei Qing impressed them and received a few more glances.

Wei Qing’s outfit was prim and proper. The main thing was his extraordinary presence. Just one look and they knew that he was someone with a background. They exchanged a glance with each other and thought that Wei Qing was probably the one in charge in the group. Since Hu Xiaohua and the others were not present, it should mean that s.h.i.+ Lei had no connection with Hu Xiaohua and Hu Jianjun. Wei Qing was probably the one who had communicated with the Hu family.

“Chief w.a.n.g, aren’t you going to introduce us?” Yang Ruicai smiled as he pa.s.sed a cup of tea over to w.a.n.g Hua’an.

w.a.n.g Hua’an did not touch the tea. Instead, he said, “This was the victim that Manager Yang mentioned. Or more accurately, he’s the son of the victim, Mr. s.h.i.+. These two are friends of Mr. s.h.i.+.” He was told to briefly introduce the other two on their way here.

Yang Ruicai nodded and pa.s.sed a cup of tea to s.h.i.+ Lei as well. He smiled and said, “So you are Mr. s.h.i.+? You’re so young. Such a young talent. I don’t know if Chief w.a.n.g pa.s.sed my message onto you?”

s.h.i.+ Lei wasn’t being polite with them as picked up the cup and took a sip. “He did. I would like to ask Manager Yang something. If I accept the compensation, does that mean I will have to stop pursuing legal actions against Qin Huaiyuan?”

Yang Ruicai smiled lightly and filled s.h.i.+ Lei’s cup. “It was Qin Huaiyuan’s fault for not handling this issue properly, but fortunately, there was no mishap,” he said. “No matter what, it is the people who are more important than anything else. Your father’s injury was an accident and we are sorry about that. So we hope that we are able to pay enough compensation to satisfy the s.h.i.+ family. Qin Huaiyuan is not young anymore, and it is not necessary to take him to court. We can’t confirm that those employees were instigated by him by their testimonials only. And Qin Huaiyuan only instructed them to take back the house. Telling them to a.s.sault others is definitely out of the question. Mr. s.h.i.+, don’t you think what I said is reasonable?”

s.h.i.+ Lei narrowed his eyes. “It looks like Manager Yang is very well-versed in law. If that is the case, then why don’t we see if the court thinks the same? What’s the point of running all the way here just to tell me this?”

Yang Ruicai was taken aback. He did not expect s.h.i.+ Lei to reject his proposal so straightforwardly.
