Chapter 194: Guo Fei’s faint smile

Zhang Xiao Qiang brandished the Jing Wei Blade with his right hand while wielding the Beast Horn Spear in his left and killing more zombies. In his hand, the Jing Wei Blade easily beheaded the strong, agile or weak zombies off their shoulders while the Beast Horn Spear penetrated through the eye sockets or foreheads and sent the zombies straight to h.e.l.l. One zombie appeared from behind a zombie that had just been killed by Zhang Xiao Qiang, opening its large mouth and biting towards Zhang Xiao Qiang. Zhang Xiao Qiang raised the Beast Horn Spear and stabbed at its claws, then slashed down on its forehead with his Jing Wei Blade.

“PA….”

A clear rifle shot was heard. A hole appeared on both the zombie’s forehead and the back of its head, the power of the shot forced the zombie to fall to the ground. Zhang Xiao Qiang cursed in his heart, ‘that Shangguan Qiao Yun meddling in again’. Shangguan Qiao Yun was like a vengeful spirit that followed close behind him and would stop his thunder every time he was at the peak of enjoyment while killing the zombies. She was always a step ahead of him in killing the zombie that posed the biggest threat to him. To have this feeling taken away made him feel extremely sour but due to the circ.u.mstance, he was unable to turn back and scold her.

He slowly cleared the zombies around him and managed to find the lunatic Guo Fei. Guo Fei was surrounded in a corner, his hair dishevelled, eyes fanatical red as he gasped for breath. The blade in his hand was constantly used to slash down at the zombies close to him. His windbreaker was long tattered and torn, his movements turned slightly sluggish, but he persevered. One after another, zombies fell at his feet and slowly formed a half meter tall wall. He stood on this mountain of corpses and continued killing the zombies around him with not a single trace of despair or struggle on his face, only fanaticism and excitement….

One Type-D zombie finally had its turn after the zombies in front of it were dead. With its pathway cleared, it pounced towards Guo Fei. Guo Fei summoned the remaining of his strength and slashed his blade at the Type-D Zombie’s head. With his remaining strength, the speed of his blade was mediocre. When the blade was right at the Type-D Zombie’s head, the zombie stepped onto a corpse, causing it to stumble. The blade slashed onto its shoulder which did not induce any reaction from it. The Type-D zombie continued to slash its claws at Guo Fei.

Guo Fei’s blade was stuck in the zombie’s shoulder blade and he was unable to unlodge it from the zombie. When the zombie pounced on him again, he voluntarily let go of the blade as his sleeves fluttered gentle. Two different sized knives appeared in his hands with the knife in his right hand blocking the Type-D Zombie’s claws and the blade in his left stabbing the zombie in its forehead. The knife pierced into the Type-D Zombie’s head, but the inertia of its pounce still existed, causing the zombie to collide straight into Guo Fei. Both Guo Fei and the body fell into the pile of corpses and with much difficulty, he finally pushed away the Type-D corpse that was on him. Two ordinary zombies pounced towards him from the left and right, “Puchi….” The zombie on his right had a knife stabbed into its eye socket. After walking for another two steps, it fell to the ground. The zombie on the left did not stop at all, it continued to stagger towards Guo Fei. Upon noticing that the hideous zombie wanted to pounce on him and that he had completely consumed all the energy in his hands and with no weapons left, he figured that he could no longer do anything. But he did not despair. Unlike ordinary people who would turn afraid or savage right before death doors, he smiled faintly and closed his eyes. That was the first time Zhang Xiao Qiang saw him smile.

A long sword drew light spun a halo in midair, sweeping past the short distance and penetrated the zombie from the left side of its head and out from its right. The sight of the zombie became strange, a sword stabbed into its rotten head made it look like a comedic cartoon character. With the sword stabbed in its head, it pounced at Guo Fei’s leg. Guo Fei suddenly opened his eyes and saw the strange zombie by his leg, then saw Zhang Xiao Qiang standing amongst the zombies a distance away. He sighed gently, then climbed out from beneath the pile of zombies. He pulled out the blade from the Type-D zombie’s shoulder, looked at the remaining zombies, then started charging at them…..

A zombie crawled on the ground and advanced forward slowly, moving along the numerous corpses aroud. It continued to crawl on the thick, sticky and smelly pools of black blood, drawing out long blood smears behind it. It could only crawl slowly, towards the humans moving about in the courtyard where even more zombie corpses laid.

A leather boot suddenly stomped on its back, it struggled fanatically and attempted to claw at the leg. It wanted to turn around and take a bite at the owner of the feet, it wanted to tear off a piece of flesh and swallow it to fill its empty stomach. A bayonet stained with black blood stopped it by the back of its head.

“Pa….”

The bayonet did not penetrate the head, but with a slight tremble, a rifle bullet was unloaded into the zombie’s head. It sprawled to the ground and struggled no more….

w.a.n.g Chong picked up Zhang Xiao Qiang’s Jing Wei Blade and Beast Horn Spear, and even carefully cleaned the blood off the weapons with water before handing them back over to Zhang Xiao Qiang. w.a.n.g Chong’s performance was notable, he dared to fight and dared to risk his life, although he was not that outstanding, but the number of zombies that had died by his hands was by no means a low number. In the combat team, he could be considered slightly above average.

The courtyard was not huge, a few hundred zombie corpses covered the entire floor. About 10 combat team members patrolled around the corpses with scattered gunshots heard over time. One after another, the zombies that struggled on the ground all took headshots. Guo Fei took off the windbreaker, revealing the stab proof vest that Zhang Xiao Qiang had equipped him with. Although he had been clawed at by zombies multiple times, he did not suffer from any injuries. He remained silent as he used the torn windbreaker to clean the blade in his hand.

Inside the supervision area, the fences close to the door were opened. The ground was littered with dried corpses and bones of the dead. The cells were in a mess, with bedding torn to be subst.i.tuted as cloth thrown all over the floor that were dyed black with blood, flipped over metal beds, broken wooden boards, white bones, black and yellow jail clothes all around and the occasional Type-81 AR covered in dust hanging around. Zhang Xiao Qiang took the lead and walked extremely slowly, the other members behind gathered any ammunition and magazines they saw. Three and his elite team no longer rushed at the front but instead followed alongside Zhang Xiao Qiang while giving him directions.

After pa.s.sing through a row of opened cells and turning a corner, another row of cells appeared before them. These cells were all sealed shut, with countless of zombie arms extending out of the small food holes trying to get to Zhang Xiao Qiang. Through the small food holes, they could see countless of hideous and sinister zombies with their mouths wide opened. The combat team members raised their guns in preparation to shoot but were stopped by Zhang Xiao Qiang. Although all these zombies looked terrifying, they posed little to no threat. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not want to waste time and bullets on time, so they formed a single line file and walked through the center with Guo Fei quietly following at the back. Unlike the others who avoided and dodged the zombie claws, he walked ahead with blade in hand, slas.h.i.+ng and cutting the zombie arms off. Wherever he pa.s.sed, arms laid in his wake….

Zhang Xiao Qiang and the group walked through the supervision area and finally arrived at the rear of the prison. The structure at the back of the prison was like the front empty s.p.a.ce, without any tall perimeter wall, but with many plots of agricultural land dug with a central water system extended to the end where a thick wall covered in steel barbed wires stood. There, over a dozen scattered zombies strolled along the slightly opened steel doors…
