Ran Xiaoyi took a moment to consider her next move, then headed back.

Upon returning to Lateral Court, she did not immediately go to her room. Instead, she went to another that was opposite them and knocked on the door.

Soon after, it opened.

A lady who looked to be in her thirties with a plain but fine appearance came out.

Ran Xiaoyu greeted the woman, "Aunt Tongyun."

"Xiaoyu. Why are you here? Come in and sit down."

As she spoke, she motioned for Xiaoyu to enter the room with her hand.

Although Aunt Tongyun was only in her thirties, because she had entered the palace at a young age, she was considered an elder. Back when they were still female attendants, Nan Yan and Xiaoyu had had some dealings with her. She was a very understanding and generous person.

It was common knowledge that Aunt Tongyun had some medical knowledge as she used to have her own clinic before entering the Palace. To this day, she still had some dealings with Tai Medicinal Hall and kept some common medicinal herbs in handy. Therefore, palace maids and eunuchs had taken the habit to go to her for ailments such as colds and small injuries.

At once the two people in the room sat down. Tongyun smiled. "What can I do for you?”

"Aunt, I need to know if someone came to request medicine for a wound within the past two days."

"Medicine for a wound?" Aunt Tongyun pondered over question before answering, "Someone indeed came this morning for that. They said they would come later today to pick it up. Why do you ask?"

"Who came?"

As soon as the words were uttered, there was a voice heard from outside: "Aunt Tongyun, I've come to get the medicine.”

Ran Xiaoyu was taken by surprise and subconsciously took a step back. Aunt Tongyun noticed her strange behavior but had no time to inquire about it. She hurried to get the door but made sure not to leave leeway for someone to get or see inside. She stood by the door as she greeted her visitor.

"Oh, Miss Baixue you are back."

"Auntie, earlier I asked you for an ointment to treat wounds. Do you have it?"

"Yes. You wait here. I'll go get it for you."

"Auntie, you still won't let me in? What's the matter with you?"

"Oh, your room at Shufang Hall  is so grand and pristine. In comparison my room is too unsightly and would scared you for life."

"Aunt is so funny."

Tongyun smiled and walked to the cabinet to get the requested ointment that she had prepared beforehand. She spared a quick look to Xiaoyu standing in a corner before wordlessly going back to her other guest to whom she handed the medicine over through the crack of the door. The two servants exchanged a few more pleasantries before the girl referred to as Baixue left..

Tongyun closed the door slowly and turned to face Ran Xiaoyu again.

When the door was closing Ran Xiaoyu had taken a peek at who was behind it and saw a figure through the narrow opening.

"She is… Palace attendant Baixue of Shufang Hall!"

Ran Xiaoyu's eyebrows were screwed together. Tongyun looked at her dignified appearance and asked, "Xiaoyu, what's the matter with you? Why are you acting so mysteriously? Is there any problem with Baixue getting the medicine?"

Ran Xiaoyu thought for a moment and said, "Auntie, don't tell anyone about me being here for now. I will make sure to give you a proper explanation but for now I need to leave."

After leaving these few words,, she hastily went out.

Ran Xiaoyu left Lateral Court and tailed Baixue which led her all the way back to Zhong Hua Palace. However, this time, instead of the main hall, she found herself on the other side of Zhong Hua Palace - Shufang Hall .

As she had expected, she saw a tall and thin eunuch come out, take the medicine from Baixue's hand, and leave the opposite way.

Ran Xiaoyu quickly hid herself, behind the door.

She waited for the coast to be clear, before carefully stretching out her head to follow with her eyes where the eunuch was headed.

The eunuch disappeared behind red walls and out of her sight but she did not chase after him. There was no need because she had already recognized him as the one serving Xiao Wei in Shufang Hall.

However, this was certainly not the most important discovery.

She stared at the opposite side to look at the slim and beautiful figure now entering Shufang Hall.

Shufang Hall.

She had never been to this place, but she clearly remembered who lived there.

Imperial Concubine An, Gao Yu Rong.
