Book I: The President’s Million Dollar Bride_Chapter 4.1

The consultation room is a rather s.p.a.cious room and the decor inside is similar to that in the lobby.

Dr. Que is wearing a gold-rimmed gla.s.ses and sat behind a vintage medieval desk. One hand was clutched into a fist and is propping up his lips as he watched gravely at the projection screen on the opposite wall.

On the opposite wall, a scientific news report is being broadcasted.

Seing Jiao Qi and Zhang Chenfei come in, he motioned the two of them to watch the news together with him.

“With the widespread popularity of smart brains nowadays, many problems have come one after another. In the event that the user suffered an external impact while the smart brain was in an active state, a neurological disorder may occur due to the smart brain’s connection to the user’s neurons…” A neurological expert warned the populace to carefully protect their skull and not let it be hit by heavy objects.

Following the report, the screen turned to the streets of Mǐ guó [1], where a march against smart brains was being held.

{T/N: [1] Mǐ guó  米国 – This can be literally translated as Rice Country. Historically, Mi guo was said to be a name of a country that formerly existed near Samarkand. Samarkand is a city in Uzbekistan known for its mosques and mausoleums located on the Silk Road, the ancient trade route linking China to the Mediterranean.}

“Abolish the smart brain, return the smartphone!” Using this slogan, the people’s clear shout is resounding. People held small flags and banners, and also blew trumpet on their mouths. Some people took pictures of the father (creator) of smart brain and draw red cross marks on it (X); while others painted their shaved heads with a 3D hole image to indicate that when the smart brain had problems, it would bring about a ‘hole in the brain’.

On a podium being drawn by a pickup truck which slowly moved along with the crowd, a brawny father is fervently narrating his own family’s bitter experience.

His child was watching the movie《 Superman 》at that time when he was. .h.i.t on the head by the plaster that fell off the roof. From then on, he thought he was Superman.

“He had jumped off from a building for the third time this week. He also said yesterday that he could see the color of the panties of the neighbor’s young sister-in-law. He was beaten up by the girl’s fat older brother and now his eyes are swollen.” He hugged his barely eight-year-old son who now has panda eyes due to being beaten up, and began recounting the events with a tearful voice.

“People, don’t panic. I’ll come and save you immediately!” The little boy grabbed his father’s microphone and spoke with a serene look.

This scene appeared to be very touching but then, someone quickly raised an issue. The law does not permit minors to be equipped with smart brains. As such, the father who was giving a speech should be arrested. Frightened by the thought of being arrested, the speaker hurriedly embraced his son, who was still trying to hollow in his father’s arms, and moved to flee from the street…

“This flock of prey.” Que De turned off the projector and mocked in a Mandarin sentence with the Mi country (Mi guo) accent. After that, he invited Jiao Qi and Zhang Chenfei to sit across him.

He had carefully read the information that he received previously from Jiao Qi, but he had to do a thorough test to diagnose it.

“Your name.”

“Oh, my name, you don’t know?” Zhang Chenfei overlapped his legs and domineeringly confronted the apparently ill-mannered doctor. The president who holds the lifeblood of the world economy, n.o.body can not know his name.

“I’m sorry, I’m from Mi. I don’t know much about the celebrities in China.” Que De lowered his head and wrote down a record on a form.

“Oh? So last week, who was the one who tricked me into buying a set of luxurious deep-sea caviar small chrysanthemum [2] skin care products?” The wise president did not hesitate to debunk the Que De who tried to muddle through.

Small chrysanthemum … skin care products? Jiao Qi’s face darkened, narrowed his eyes and looked at Que De.

“Ah ha ha …” Dr. Que De awkwardly laughed twice and in the memory status column, he filled in ‘Normal memory is correct’.

“Feigning ignorance in front of me, you were still inexperienced,” Zhang Chenfei sneered, “n.o.body can escape my, Dior Zhang’s, eyes.”

A series of tests took all afternoon. Once done, Que De produced a detailed report for Jiao Qi along with an expensive medical bill.

“According to the test, Mr. Zhang had a Smart Brain Disorder Syndrome. As you can see from the previous reports, the impact of an external force had caused some confusion in his memory and changes in his behavior.”

Such news, like the one they just watched, is not allowed to be broadcasted in China for fear that it will cause panic to the public. Smart Brain Disorder Syndrome is a cutting-edge research project. At present, there’s no systematic treatment available yet in China.

“It just so happen that my teacher is doing research on this area recently,” Que De pleasantly said as he was trying to make the client understand that choosing him as the private doctor was a wise decision.

Jiao Qi carefully read through the test report. It shows that most of his family’s Da Diao’s ordinary memories, like the time when they were cla.s.smates, are not a major problem. Only a small part of his memory was replaced and caused a deviation in his cognition of the real world.

“Do you know what his smart brain was showing at the last minute?” Que De supported his eyegla.s.ses and asked in a serious manner.

Jiao Qi turned his head and looked back at his charmingly evil but upright lao gong (old husband). His forehead started to palpitate as blue veins pulsated: “It’s probably … The Overbearing President’s Extremely Expensive But Lovely Wife…”

“This… ” Que De seemed a little disappointed. He looked down at the information he checked overnight. “I thought it was《 The President’s Million Dollar Bride 》or《 The Wife’s 99 Ways of Fleeing From Evil 》.”

‘What’s the difference?’ President Jiao heard it and now he wants to hit this certain person.

Dr. Que De did not realize what he had exposed as he was still gus.h.i.+ng about science.

This condition is not actually acquired by all people who had been hit by the Smart Brain Disorder Syndrome, but only two-tenths of it.

This kind of situation had been thought of at the earliest time possible by people in the research and development and as a result, a procedure was developed.

“What’s the procedure?”

Notes: [1] Mi guo versus Mei guo – In the previous chapter, I confused Mi guo (Rice Country) with Mei guo (United States of America). Rice country is where Dr. Que De grew up and not in the United States. My apologies for this error and I also have updated the previous chapter. [2] Chrysanthemum – A prevailing and pervasive Chinese slang referring to the a.s.shole since their appearance are very similar. Initially used on the web by slash fans (usually refers to male on male fanatics) but later on, it spread across the country due to its subtle, vivid and artistic comparison that suits both refined and popular tastes.
