Chapter 120 - Prehistoric Insect

Zhong Yue praised in his heart as he heard what Hu Qimei said; what kind of legendary encounter did he experience in the secret realm such that he managed to obtain such a mysterious yet powerful heritage ... it can only be fathomed. However, what made him curious was the gigantic creature that crawled out from the secret realm. That creature must be incredibly huge as even the monsters called it a huge monster!

“Too bad this is not the Devil Soul Forbidden Land,” lamented Xin Huo, seemingly very disappointed.

Suddenly, A Qi Pract.i.tioner asked, “Why are the Awakening Qi Pract.i.tioners not allowed to enter the realm?”

“Those who exceeded the level of Rebirth will die for sure if they were to enter the Black Mountain secret realm.”

The seneschal then said, “This is because there are countless terrifying seals in this realm that will seal off the power of any Qi Pract.i.tioner that enters this place. Not only that, any level of Qi Pract.i.tioner will have their souls crushed by these seals upon entering the realm. It has been that way until the gigantic creature loosened the seals when it crawled out from the realm. With the seals slightly loosened up, only Qi Pract.i.tioners of the Rebirth level or below could enter this place. When the creature crawled out of the realm, saint city lord was still a Rebirth Qi Pract.i.tioner, which is why he was able to obtain the heritage of the【Monster G.o.d Ming King Art】.”

Zhong Yue’s mind s.h.i.+fted as finally understood why; this secret realm left behind by the Monster G.o.d Ming King was a realm that would prohibit any Qi Pract.i.tioner from entering by sealing off their power and crus.h.i.+ng their souls.

This realm was essentially tantamount to a huge net – capturing any fish regardless of their size. However, the s.p.a.ces between the net became bigger when the creature crawled out from the realm, hence, allowing the smaller fish to enter and exit the net unimpeded; but the same cannot be said of the larger fish.

During that time, the now saint city lord was still a little fish on the Rebirth level, allowing him the opportunity to obtain the heritage of Monster G.o.d Ming King. However, precisely due to his low cultivation and lack of experience, there were still some missing parts in the art that he failed to obtain.

Zhong Yue thought, Being the strongest existence among the monsters, the ramifications of the art’s deficiencies would only be more debilitating., This would ultimately threaten his life, which is why this is happening now. Taking in Qi Pract.i.tioner as his final pupil was just a ploy to get someone else to enter the realm and search for the full art for him in his stead!

He knew that the saint city lord did not have the completed【Monster G.o.d Ming King Art】in his hands but that didn’t mean that the other monster Qi Pract.i.tioners were cognizant of the fact. They most likely only thought that the incomplete art was a test given to them by saint city lord.

Once the Qi Pract.i.tioners exited the realm, all he had to do would be to check the art they obtained to decide whether or not he would accept them as his final disciple. With that, he would be able to get his hands on the completed art to remove the latent threats.

The only reason why there was not a single Spirit Nurturing Qi Pract.i.tioner was that their level was too low, thus, they would have no chance at all even after entering the secret realm.

“Please be careful, everyone. The seals might have weakened but they are still functioning.”

The old monster sitting in front of the palace suddenly said, “There are countless seals all over the place, the situation would turn sour quickly if the seals are triggered!”

The seneschal nodded and continued saying, “If the Awakening, Spirit Body, Inner Core level seals are triggered, you will be erased from this world completely! Remember, despite so many cultivators having entered the realm in the past, only the saint city lord was able to walk out alive.”

Upon hearing their advice, the monster Qi Pract.i.tioners on the board became more serious.

What the seneschal meant was that the secret realm was filled with dangers; even the strongest may not be able to last until the end. Besides, they were only Rebirth Qi Pract.i.tioners and they were nothing in front of the higher level seals!

The Qi Pract.i.tioners then started getting off the boat and walked towards the Black Mountain’s secret realm. As they walked towards the portal of the secret realm, Yu Xuanji suddenly remarked, “If there has been one gigantic creature that crawled out of the realm, then there could be another one! Such a creature was able to dig through the entire Black Mountain and even killed the previous saint city lord , I wonder if we could even last a second in front of this creature.”

Everyone around him immediately turn to shoot icy glares at him.

Yu Xuanji shrugged and continued talking, “The lantern plants and the transparent fish in this cave must have come from the secret realm, which means that there could be more strange creatures around here, don’t say I didn't warn you!”

Zhong Yue nodded silently as the words of Yu Xuanji might be ugly but they weren’t without reason; there must be more strange things in the secret realm.

G.o.d knows which era this Monster G.o.d Ming King belonged to. There are still living creatures here, which seems really strange. Besides, where did that creature go after escaping from here. With the incredible strength to be able to kill the previous saint city lord , it must have caused a ruckus if it's still alive.

The area linking the secret realm with the cave was the swamps. When Zhong Yue entered the secret realm, he looked afar while he stood on the swamps and all he could see was a prehistoric world that loomed with huge trees everywhere. Lava was raining down from the skies like a cascading waterfall and large rock columns supported the top of the cave.

“Help me!”

A shriek could suddenly be heard and Zhong Yue quickly looked towards the direction, only to find a monster Qi Pract.i.tioner being dragged into the water by two huge clamps. Before anyone could react, the clamps had already disappeared into the water along with the Qi Pract.i.tioner.

Then, blood could be seen in the water, dying the water in red!

“There’s something in the water!”

The monster Qi Pract.i.tioners immediately scattered and headed towards the sh.o.r.e, hiding in the forest and not even sparing a single thought of rendering any a.s.sistance to the unfortunate cultivator. They were, after all, compet.i.tors. Thus, it would work in their favor if the number of people they had to contend with dwindled, leaving only themselves in the realm so they could have a better chance.

None of them could be reliable at this point.

Zhong Yue quickly got to the sh.o.r.e and entered the jungle while he thought, Even Yu Xuanji and Hu Qimei will become my opponent here. If we encountered each other, we might end up fighting with our lives on the line!

There was already great contention among the monsters, let alone the fact that they all came for the same purpose, seeking for the same thing. If one didn’t fight with whatever they had up their sleeves, an ugly ending was the thing that would befall them.

As Zhong Yue continued to venture into the jungle, he could not hear any birds chirping nor any animals roaring. Only some noise let out by unknown insects were faintly audible. The trees in the jungle were incredibly huge and tall, appearing very primitive and ancient. Perhaps, they had been there for thousands of years.

Such condensed wood Qi, this would be one of the best places to cultivate the Wood Sword Qi!

Zhong Yue thought and he immediately put his thoughts into action. He sat down and began to cultivate the【Great Boundless Sword Qi】, absorbing the wood Qi in the jungle. Due to the fact where he was not an Innate Wood Spirit Body, he only managed to cultivate a Wood Sword Qi by subsuming the distilled energy from Qiu Jin’er’s body, which was also the reason why the power of his Wood Sword Qi stagnated after the fact.

However, the wood Qi in the Black Mountain’s secret realm was incredibly saturated, making it the best place for Zhong Yue to cultivate his Wooden Sword Qi!

I wonder where the Monster G.o.d Ming King stayed in this secret realm.

Zhong Yue leaped up onto a tree and he stood on the branch while he looked far away to scout for the legacies left behind by the monster G.o.d. Ming King was a monster G.o.d, therefore, the place he once stayed must have been filled with traces of his legacy, which in turn, meant that if one wishes to look for the completed【Monster G.o.d Ming King Art】, he or she would have to go searching for the place he once stayed.

“Arghhhh——-”

Suddenly, he heard a loud cry in mid-air and Zhong Yue quickly looked towards that direction, only to find a monster Qi Pract.i.tioner reverting to his original form – a huge bird. This bird was surrounded by waves of golden light after which his body became a sieve with innumerable perforations within seconds. What was left behind were their bones and feathers which dropped lifelessly onto the ground.

What are these golden lights?

Zhong Yue’s heart thumped as he saw these golden lights moved swiftly through the air like the wind towards somewhere far away, making it difficult for him to see clearly.

Such a danger, even the Rebirth Qi Pract.i.tioner could not even withstand against it, being eaten alive in such a short time. The air seems to be a minefield of dangers, if I flew in the air, a tragic fate may befall me!

He looked around quickly and saw a steep mountain far away; if the Monster G.o.d Ming King would pick a place to stay, that would be one of the places he would pick.

Zhong Yue made his decision and just when he was about to jump down from the tree, he saw a golden light s.h.i.+ning on the ground faintly.

What’s this? A sh.e.l.l?

After a moment, Zhong Yue got to the golden light and he saw a thin golden sh.e.l.l lying on the ground. From the looks of it, the sh.e.l.l seemed to be the skin shed by some kind of insect, but it was just way too big.

The shedded skin was even bigger than him, covered in steel fur with traces of wings on the back of its skin. It was his first time seeing such a big insect!

“It’s the insect race!”

Xin Huo was shocked and he flew out from Zhong Yue’s psyche ocean before circling around the shed skin and said, “It is indeed from the insect race, I never thought I would see this race again at such a place!”

Zhong Yue asked curiously, “What kind of race is this insect race?”

“Insects have short lifespans, at most, two to three years, making it almost impossible for them to form a civilization, not to mention the fact that they have low intelligence. Thus, they are unable to become an advanced and intelligent society like the humans or the monsters. However, the insect race is the aberrant species among the insects; they were also referred to as the G.o.d bugs as they have longer life spans than ordinary insects. Their skin is also naturally engraved with totem patterns so as to naturally absorb the energy in the air. With the pa.s.sage of time, they eventually developed a rudimentary intelligence. Monsters like the spider monsters are all actually races that splintered off from the insect race despite them being cla.s.sed as monsters.”

Xin Huo continued his explanation, “This race could hardly be seen anymore due to the rampant proclivities of the insect race during ancient times. They devoured everything in their path, which was also the impetus of their doom. I never thought that there were quite a number of insect race that survived here in this realm. These insects could perform as.e.xual reproduction and also be tamed as a soul weapon, which is the reason why they were all called living soul weapons.

Zhong Yue knocked on the shed insect skin lightly and the skin sh.e.l.l let out some clear noise; the entire skin was entirely made of mystic gold!

No wonder it was so strong, devouring the monster Qi Pract.i.tioner like a carrot. With just this layer of skin that is so hard, the body of these insects must be extraordinary! Could the big creature that crawled out from here also be of the insect race?

Something struck Zhong Yue and he quickly asked, “Xin Huo, why does it sound like the insect race is similar to the demons? There are some demons that consumed metals and absorb them into their body, just like this insect here.”

“The insect race was created by the demons and they bred these insects with the blood of the demon G.o.d in order to use them as war machines against the celestial race. The demons bred them and unleashed them into the galaxy, shrouding the entire world in their shadow, and leaving nothing behind as they voraciously devoured everything in their path. Then, the insect race soon somehow developed their own intelligence somehow whereby they became independent of the compulsion of the demons. Due to that, the insect race faced annihilation from both the celestial race and demon race. However, the insect race was too fecund and their reproductive potential and was too strong. Making it nigh impossible to drive them to extinction, thus, the insects are still existing to this day. These insects are actually very good as they are able to absorb all kinds of energy … Look out!”

Suddenly, an earth fissure appeared on the ground where Zhong Yue stood and a golden centipede flew out from the cracked ground. The feelers in front of the centipede stabbed towards Zhong Yue quickly and before they could reach Zhong Yue, pale yellow venom could be seen flying out towards him.

The feelers looked like the scorpion poisonous sting, with the end of the feelers looking extremely sharp while s.h.i.+ning with metallic golden color, which seems to be made of a mixture of metal alloys!
