Everyone turned their head except for Song Miaomiao, who sat still. She was the one who had called this person, since she had been slightly annoyed from the moment the conversation had started.

So although it had looked like she was playing with her phone,  she was actually texting this person on WeChat.

Song Miaomiao was pleased with how quickly the person arrived. He didn’t even take fifteen minutes. She gently grabbed s.h.i.+ Lei’s hand and winked, hinting that it was time for this farce to end.

“Secretary Xu?” Secretary Yang was shocked.

Secretary Xu pretended to be surprised when he saw Secretary Yang. “Oh, Secretary Yang is here too? Chief w.a.n.g, why didn’t you let me know earlier?”

w.a.n.g Hua’an was bewildered as well, but after thinking about it, he guessed it had to be Song Miaomiao who called him here.

Hence, he smiled and stood up. “We did not know that Secretary Yang would be here when we invited you. It was just supposed to be a casual chat amongst us. We didn’t expect Secretary Yang and…Oh, this is Yang Ruicai, the manager of Mo Du’s(1) Kaixuan Group and Secretary Yang’s cousin. We received a call from Manager Yang after we stepped out, but we had already arranged to meet you before, so we had no choice but to meet them here as well.”

“Why? Do Secretary Yang and Manager Yang have some business with Chief w.a.n.g? Would you like to discuss this in private? We are here to relax while having some tea and a pleasant conversation, so it would be best to handle work-related matters privately and on your own time.”

Secretary Yang was already on pins and needles. Secretary Xu was also a secretary in Munic.i.p.al Party Committee, but he was a division-leveled secretary. He had the highest rank after the secretary general in the secretariat. The main thing was that Secretary Xu was the number one secretary in the Run Zhou Munic.i.p.al Party Committee and his boss was a very high-ranked executive. Even Secretary Yang’s boss would have to show some respect to Secretary Xu, let alone Secretary Yang himself.

“Oh, it’s nothing. We were just chatting.” Secretary Yang said while looking around and fixed his gaze on Wei Qing. Who exactly is this Wei Qing? How did he invite the number one secretary in Run Zhou? Secretary Yang obviously knew that Secretary Xu was not only here to chat, but to support s.h.i.+ Lei. He just didn’t know if it was his own opinion or if he was speaking on behalf of the other party.

“Secretary Xu, nice to meet you. I am Yang Ruicai, the a.s.sistant general manager for Kaixuan Group. Here is my business card.” Yang Ruicai quickly got up and pa.s.sed him the card with both hands.

Secretary Xu casually received the card and pretended to look at it before putting it on the table.

“s.h.i.+ Lei, how is your father’s case coming along?” Secretary Xu asked, talking to s.h.i.+ Lei first after sitting down.

Secretary Yang’s heart immediately sank. How does s.h.i.+ Lei have a connection with Secretary Xu? And from Secretary Xu’s att.i.tude, it seems like they are pretty close. Is it s.h.i.+ Lei instead of Wei Qing who called Secretary Xu? If that is the case, then it is not surprising because for a commoner like s.h.i.+ Lei to have friends like Wei Qing, it has to be due his family connections. But if your family has connections with Secretary Xu, why didn’t you show it instead of being bullied by Qin Huaiyuan?

s.h.i.+ Lei glanced at Song Miaomiao, but she was focused on playing a game. He could only smile and say, “h.e.l.lo, Uncle Xu. The subbureau has already obtained sufficient evidence and is preparing for the lawsuit.”

“Oh, that’s good. Chief w.a.n.g, I have a presumptuous request. You will have to keep an eye on this matter. Although Dahua Electronics mainly comprises of private a.s.sets, they also include state-owned shares. And there are a lot of old workers who have worked in the factory for most of their lives. We public servants can’t push the blame onto someone else for making them suffer. There are still a lot of imprecisions in the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, so we will need the help of the Bureau of Public Security to resolve a lot of problems.”

“You are right Secretary Xu. I will handle this case personally. This will make our people at ease, especially those who were wronged in the restructuring process. The government will not abandon them!”

s.h.i.+ Lei really wanted to stand and applaud Secretary Xu and Chief w.a.n.g for their words.

Secretary Yang could not stay any longer and signalled to Yang Ruicai with his eyes. He then stood up and said, “It’s getting late. I have some family matters to attend to. Secretary Xu, Chief w.a.n.g, please enjoy yourselves. We shall take our leave.”

Both of them left with a gloomy face. Up until this point, they still hadn’t managed to clarify the connections between those people.

They were just stepping out when Secretary Yang’s phone rang. He saw that the caller was his boss.

“Mayor…” Secretary Yang was an absolute weakling in front of his boss, despite the domineering manner he had shown in private room.

“How many times have I told you that it is ‘vice mayor’!?” The person on the other side sounded furious. “Let me ask you: did you go and bother somebody?”

Secretary Yang s.h.i.+vered. Did Secretary Xu voice a complaint?

“No, I was only trying to be the mediator, but I really didn’t bother anyone. Kaixuan Group asked me to pull some strings, but the Bureau of Public Security refused to give me face…”

“What face do you have?! Yang Hua ah, Yang Hua, tell me: exactly what face do you have? Why does a secretary like you need face? Why must the Bureau of Public Security give you face? Do you know who the people in the private room are? You dare ask for respect? Let me ask you: was there a girl with a buzz cut there?”

Secretary Yang trembled in fear and answered, “Yes, there was one…”

“You’ve landed me in hot water because of this! You better get back in that room right now and beg for her forgiveness. I’ll be right there!” With that said, he immediately hung up.

Secretary Yang was flabbergasted and turned around to look at his cousin. “Ruicai, what is the background of the girl with the buzz cut?”

Yang Ruicai also looked lost. “I don’t know.”

Secretary Yang stomped his foot and dashed back to the private room without an explanation.

He pushed the door opened without bothering to knock. They were chatting happily and were stunned when they saw that Secretary Yang had returned.

“I am sorry! I am sorry! It was my fault. All my fault! Please be magnanimous and forgive me!”

Secretary Yang ran to Song Miaomiao and hurriedly apologized. Although they didn’t understand why was he doing this, they could guess that it was probably on his boss’ orders.

“We never talked before right? Why are you begging me for forgiveness? And who let you in? Do you not have basic manners? Don’t you know how to knock?!”

Secretary Yang was dumbfounded and hesitated for a moment before stepping out of the room feeling embarra.s.sed and angry. He knocked softly on the door and, in getting no response, could only keep knocking patiently on the door.

The room was filled with laughter. “Come in,” w.a.n.g Hua’an finally said. Secretary Yang then entered the room looking dejected.

He could not refrain from apologizing to Song Miaomiao again after entering the room. Finally, he said said, “Mayor Bai—I mean, Vice Mayor Bai said that he will be here personally to apologize to you.”

Song Miaomiao shook her head and said, “You don’t even know who I am, so what are you apologizing for? Enough. Just f*ck off already. You’re p.i.s.sing me off.”

Secretary Yang felt extremely awkward. He was unsure whether to leave or stay. Then someone knocked on the door again.

Vice Mayor Bai came into the room. He didn’t greet the other people there, instead going straight to Song Miaomiao and bowing. “Young Miss, why didn’t you inform me that you would be coming to Run Zhou so that I could make arrangements beforehand?”

“If I told you, then how are we going to watch your secretary putting on airs in front of us, ‘Mayor’ Bai?”

Mo Du: is Shanghai, nickname name for Shanghai.
