Chapter 114 Messenger
“This must be the work of Lena Fox since she’s trying to recruit more manpower. However, I don’t have anything extra to feed the people if they’re going to flood into my place.” Zhou Qingfeng felt baffled by the Armed Nun Society, but he did not plan to ask Lena Fox via wireless radio.
“Just give these newspapers away to the others. There’re so many search notices on them, perhaps others might be able to find their families through them.” Zhou Qingfeng put the newspaper he was holding aside and waved at Mox. They readied themselves to leave for the subway station. They were running low on time, so it would be better for them to stop bothering with such trivial things.
Night had fallen, and the stars shone brightly in the sky.
Zhou Qingfeng and Mox brought sixteen subordinates along with them. They even used the Walker to carry a large number of tools as they headed to the subway station. They did not turn on any lights and only relied on a night vision device when probing the road in order to prevent the exposing their exact location.
Countless shots were fired in Lower Manhattan during the middle of the night. The trajectories of various projectiles could also be seen on top of the roof. It truly deserved to be regarded as a living h.e.l.l.
The entrance of New York's subway station was incredibly shabby and narrow. Moreover, the entrance was very inconspicuous. Zhou Qingfeng removed several blocks of ice cream from the truck before throwing a few glances at the entrance. He then saw a man lying in front of the entrance. The man appeared to be quite old, and it seemed that he was holding a… violin?
“Hey, old man, this is not a place for people like you. You better stay away from here.” The old man stood up and apologized repeatedly after being kicked by Zhou QIngfeng.
However, the old man did not leave even after he apologized. Instead, he asked Zhou Qingfeng, “Sir, would you like to hear a serenade? I’m Jose Bell, the chief violinist of the New York Philharmonic, and I’m very good at playing the violin. My past concert tickets would always exceed five hundred dollars, but now I’ll play for you, for free! What do you think?”
The old man was asking a question, but he immediately started playing before waiting for his answer. Zhou Qingfeng and the others could only look at him in shock.
“Old man, stop it now! No one wants to hear your performance.” Zhou Qingfeng yelled at him in anger, “Now get the f*ck out of New York, and you might have a chance to live. Death will be your only fate if you decided to stay here.”
“But no one will watch my performance anymore if I were to leave New York. I’ve been working hard for my whole life, hoping to perform in the New York Broadway Theatre. I wanted to play until I’m dead, and I’ve almost reached my dream. There’s no way I will give up at this point.” The old man remained stubborn.
“Then go to other places to perform.”
“But the other places aren’t safe.”
“What makes you think that you’re safe here?”
“Because I can feel that you guys are good-tempered.”
Zhou Qingfeng really wanted to look up to the sky and sigh, What the f**k! Another idiot again…. He grabbed the old man’s shoulder and threw him out of the subway. He then said wickedly, “Old man, just listen to me. Leave now before it’s too late.”
“But I’m already very old.…”
“No one cares if you’re old or not, just don’t get in my way.”
In the end, Zhou Qingfeng gave him another kick before leading the team and entering the subway. None of his subordinates spoke during the whole process.
Zhou Qingfeng and the others turned on their flashlights the moment they entered the subway and went all the way to the Chambers Station near the NYPD Headquarters. This time around, there were no segmented trains blocking the tunnel, and thus their path was un.o.bstructed. Since the satellite in s.p.a.ce was still operating, after arriving at the subway, Mox used GPS positioning to select the excavation points on the tunnel wall.
“We’ll start digging upward from here. We might be able to reach a closed sewer if we dig for around six meters.” Mox then ordered the large Walker to bring the high-pressure water jet cutter forward.
Zhou Qingfeng had gotten himself several high-energy batteries that could be used to drive a 500 megahertz portable ultra-high pressure water jet cutter. This kind of machinery was perfect for opening a hole on the wall, but its only drawback was that it wasted quite an amount of water.
“Mox, order a few men to take control of the machinery. The others will be responsible for guarding the area. I’ll bring some men alongside me to patrol around this area to prevent anyone from bothering us. At the same time, go and bring the remaining tools over here.” As Mox seldom talked, it was up to Zhou Qingfeng to give out orders that the others could follow.
The whole process of taking down the wall was actually very boring. As the work was carried out in an absolutely pitch black environment, they did not notice the pa.s.sing of time. More than a dozen people were grouped into three s.h.i.+fts, and they worked twenty-four hours nonstop in order to make the most out of it.
The first day of their operation soon pa.s.sed. Mox had successfully opened up a large six-meter hole in the wall. The entire team then entered the sewer and continued their work on the other side of the subway
All of a sudden, Butcher, who went out with the search team, returned to them with a messenger alongside him. The messenger had a letter ‘Z’ tattooed on his forehead, but he appeared to be quite friendly.
“Mr Hugo, I’m Jos. Loz Zetas sent me here to deliver his regards. I now officially invite you to be part of our family.”
However, the several bodyguards that came along with the messenger did not appear to be too friendly. They were wearing turbans and homemade tactical vests. They even had six to seven magazines each and a knife hanging on their waists. They were holding guns in their hands and they keep staring at other people’s necks.
Of course, they were staring at Katrina’s b.r.e.a.s.t.s and thighs too. They even whispered to each other in Spanish, and their tones were extremely obscene.
In order to greet these uninvited guests, except for Mox who was still working in the subway, the other three members of the team had gathered up. Katrina stood beside Zhou Qingfeng and said to him quietly, “Take a look at the b.a.s.t.a.r.ds’ M67 grenades. They’re not from the police station.”
Zhou Qingfeng too had noticed their equipment. It seemed that they had found either the United States National Guard or the U.S. Army camp and had gotten themselves quite a lot of good stuff.
Jos reached his hand out to Zhou Qingfeng and smiled at him. “Mr. Hugo, please accept the friends.h.i.+p offered by our Lord Zetas, and become one of us. Otherwise, you’ll definitely regret it!”
Zhou Qingfeng did not really want to reach out to him. He only compromised when Katrina gently pushed him from behind.
Zhou Qingfeng felt disgusted as he held hands with another man. The messenger’s hand was wet and sticky, which made him extremely uncomfortable.
On the other hand, Jos was saying with great satisfaction, “Mr. Hugo, congratulations. You’ve made the right choice. We’ve actually known that you’ve attacked one of our teams and have taken away some supplies from Lord Zetas. Five hundred powerful members of Zetas have already a.s.sembled outside your neighborhood area.
“If you made the wrong choice, then things might turn a bit ugly. However, everything's fine now. You’re now a member of the Republic of New York. As for the supplies which you took away from Lord Zetas, we’ll just give them to you.”
Zhou Qingfeng let go his hand and frowned as he asked the messenger, “Mr. Jos, you must have been appointed to an important position for the Republic of New York too, am I right? Could you please tell me your position?”
"I’m the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the humble servant of Lord Los Zetas." The indecent Mexican man even bowed as a sign of respect when he mentioned the name of his leader.
Zhou Qingfeng truly felt that he was having an illusion. How can this kind of person be the Minister of Foreign Affairs? The Republic of New York is indeed a complete joke!
