Chapter 13 A Conversation
It has only been less than twelve hours since Zhou Qingfeng transmigrated to the year 2030, and yet, he felt extremely tired, both emotionally and physically. He threw himself onto the bed and fell asleep very quickly.
Zhou Qingfeng slept for a few hours. However, all of a sudden, he felt someone rummaging through his stuff. The feeling of unrest woke him up. He then saw Katrina sitting beside the bed as she searched his backpack.
Inside his backpack was the Colt M1911A1 and the fifty-seven thousand dollars that he stole from the Portaschis. Katrina played around with its hammer, whistled, and said, “This pistol is very well built, where did you get it from?”
Zhou Qingfeng jolted awake. Sweat was all over his face. He then replied unhappily to Katrina’s question, “I robbed it.”
“Oh…. I thought you were a wimp. So, you actually dare to rob people?” Katrina put the gun down and walked towards the door. “Get out of bed, it’s already ten o’clock. You’ve missed breakfast. Now, you can only wait for lunch at twelve,” she said.
“Besides that, you should probably apply some medication on your hands. They’re both badly swollen. For a rookie like you who nearly got your arm dislocated from firing a pistol, you should thank G.o.d that you’re still alive.”
Tsk, I survived all by myself! It wasn’t because of the d.a.m.n G.o.d.
Zhou Qingfeng tried to get out of bed, but he felt pain and soreness in his right arm. His elbow and wrist felt like they were burning. His arm was indeed swollen.
There was a spray used for pain relief on the table beside the bed. It was probably left by Katrina. Zhao Qingfeng grabbed it and sprayed it on his right arm. The refres.h.i.+ng sensation from the spray made him feel a lot better.
Colt M1911A1 was a powerful 45-caliber pistol. Limbs would be seriously injured if they got shot. Iif its bullets. .h.i.t your body, you should be prepared for your own funeral. Correspondingly, the recoil was just as strong as the firepower of the pistol!
For people like Zhou Qingfeng, who’s never fired a pistol, it was impressive enough to be able to fire the trigger. Therefore, when firing the pistol for the first time, it was understandable that instead of the target, the shooter got hurt.
After spraying the medicine, his arm felt better and he could do normal activities. He started to look around where he lived. The room Katrina gave him was very shabby. There was a wooden bunk bed, a table, and two chairs. The small room was about four to five square meters and was undecorated.
Zhou Qingfeng realized that he was in a four to five-storey building when he came out from the room. It looked like a huge storage place. However, Katrina renovated the place. It was now a bright, clean, and comfortable house. It was fully-furnished with furnitures like a sofa, TV, and coffee table. There was even a small bar counter in the corner.
Besides the living room, there were at least three to four floors of private rooms that belonged to Katrina. The bas.e.m.e.nt was a big and wide garage, with a few remodelled military vehicles. Judging by the thickness of the wall, this place must be purposefully chosen by Katrina - it was a perfect fortress.
“This is a great place.” Zhou Qingfeng praised. There was not any scene in the movie that showed Katrina’s house. However, from the point of view of encountering the cataclysm, this place would be more suitable than David Lawrence’s house.
Katrina was holding a gun magazine and lying on the sofa. Her reaction to Zhou Qingfeng’s praise was just a glance and a humph. “You have good taste,” she said.
Based on Katrina’s financial status, this place probably was not rented or owned by her. It might be funded by the killing and robbing of some gangsters. That seemed like the sort of thing this tough lady would do.
While standing in the living room, Zhou Qingfeng could not help but throw a few admiring glances at Katrina’s body. She was wearing a sports vest. Apart from the two b.u.mps at the front of her chest that were covered, the rest of her body was exposed.
She was also wearing a pair of sports shorts. Both her cyborg-legs were placed on the coffee table, in front of the sofa. Those who did not know about her legs would definitely be amazed by her outstretched and tight legs. People who were obsessed with legs would definitely fall in love with them.
Zhou Qingfeng took a few peeks then looked away. He knew that Katrina hated people staring at her legs. It was very uncomfortable for her, because she lost them in the landmine. She nearly committed suicide for losing her legs.
“Hey! Do you have a computer that I can borrow?” Zhou Qingfeng walked forward and asked.
“No,” Katrina was reading the magazine and did not even look at him. Katrina never worried about her life. Besides training and exercising chronically everyday, she basically did not do anything else.
Well, occasionally when she was unhappy, annoyed, bored, or even when she ran out of money, she would go to the dangerous streets of Brooklyn in the middle of the night, get rid of the gangsters, and pacify the good people. It could, possibly, be her only interest or hobby.
“Oh,” Zhou Qingfeng said. He knew that she was not friendly. He scratched his head and asked again, “Could I borrow your phone to buy some resources online? I’ll pay you in cash.”
Katrina looked at Zhou Qingfeng with disdain and said impatiently, “What do you want to buy?”
Zhou Qingfeng recalled his ‘to-buy’ list from last night and said, “Mainly rice, flour, cooking oil, salt, flavouring, drinking water, all sorts of canned food, fuel, an electric generator, a solar panel, spirits, cigarettes, a water filter and water purification tablets, emergency medicines, and tools… oh right, tissue paper, a lot of tissue paper.”
Katrina frowned while listening. What Zhou Qingfeng needed nearly covered everything that would be required for daily necessities. Basically, he could live for a long period of time with those items. She asked him, “Your trouble was so huge that you want to make your own shelter?”
“Erm…., that’s right!” he exclaimed. What you want to think is up to you, Zhou Qingfeng thought.
“You don’t have to prepare those stuff. The resources in my underground store would be sufficient for two people to survive a month. I have everything you could, or couldn’t, have thought of.” Katrina put her hand out and said, “Give me your money, I can provide you with the backup resources.”
Zhou Qingfeng pursed his lips; he knew Katrina was a mercenary. Mercenaries generally lacked backups, compared to the official army. Therefore, she had the habit of storing a large amount of resources. However, what Katrina stored was at most, enough for small amount of people, for a short period of time. It clearly was not enough for the hopeless life after the cataclysm.
I need more than that. For instance, I would like to buy more than five tonnes of rice and flour, and several thousands of food cans, Zhou Qingfeng thought it through. The fifty-five thousand dollars he had was far too little for his reserve. Sigh, my money’s still far from enough!
