Chapter 17        Misunderstanding

Katrina drove to a car wash center after she dropped Zhou Qingfeng off. After half-an-hour, the number plate of her Range Rover changed. Even the color and the model of the car was different. It would be very hard for the police to connect her car to the one that appeared at the crime scene.

“d.a.m.n kid. How dare he kill in broad daylight? Why would David ask me to take care of this kind of gangster?” Katrina returned home with anger. She was thinking about how to put the blame on David.

However, when Katrina arrived, she saw Angie sitting on her sofa, eating chips and watching TV. Angie saw Katrina, then she rushed towards her and shouted, “Hey! Sister Katrina, I’ve been waiting for so long.”

When Katrina saw Angie, her irritated mood immediately turned into happiness. She really liked this daughter of her crush - they were like sisters. Hmm…. that did not sound right, but they did not really care.

“Angie, I’m so happy to see that you’re well. Stay with me tonight, I’ll make you French cuisine.” Katrina ruffled Angie’s hair. Both of them played and frolicked around on the sofa.

When they were done, Angie spoke, “Oh right, when I arrived, I saw an unmanned, delivery vehicle deliver a lot of stuff to the bas.e.m.e.nt.”

“Oh…. it was that kid’s. They were commodities, and not a small amount,” Katrina frowned when she thought of Zhou Qingfeng.

Angie was very sensitive. She asked, confused, “Where is Victor? I thought he was supposed to be here?”

“His name’s Victor? You better stay away from him; that jerk will hurt you,” Katrina said with disdain. She was narrow-minded when it came to Zhou Qingfeng. “How did your father know him? It’s so weird.”

“Hey, Victor is my friend. Katrina, what did you do to him?” Angie realized, immediately, that something was wrong, “Where is he? I want to see him.”

Katrina glanced at Angie and said nonchalantly, “Is that guy so important? I thought he was a rookie. I asked him to wake up at six and he slept until ten. He was picky and refused to eat the canned food and bread I prepared for him. The funny thing is, he doesn’t even know how to use a gun. He can’t be a qualified mercenary.”

Angie was dumbfounded by Katrina’s tone of disagreement. She took a while to realize that there must be a misunderstanding within. She hurriedly said, “Katrina, you’re wrong. Victor isn’t a mercenary. He is my friend. He’s timid and never stirred up trouble.”

“Oh…?” Katrina, too, realized that she caught herself misunderstanding. She had a.s.sumed that the people who David brought would be similar to her. However, she was still unhappy and said, “Okay, even if he wasn’t a mercenary, he wasn’t a good guy, and neither was he timid. Guys like to lie, you should stop hanging out with him.”

“Wait, wait…. what happened?” Angie was completely confused. “Why do I feel like the Victor who you know is totally different from the one I know?”

“I brought him to Target to shop. He said he was hungry and went to McDonald’s to buy a burger. After I bought my ammo, he came back with blood all over his body and told me that he killed someone.”

“Could you imagine that? It was just a few minutes. He was being robbed. It could’ve been easily solved with twenty dollars, but he insisted on killing the robber. I hate the kind of people who use violence to solve problems. He’s pure sc.u.m.”

Katrina was so pa.s.sionate and reasonable when she spoke that, those who did not know her would’ve thought she was some kind of pacifist. On the other hand, Angie’s lip curled as she said, “Sister Katrina, if you were the one who was being robbed, you would kill the robber without hesitation, right?”

“It is weird that Victor actually killed someone, but it doesn’t matter. That misunderstanding can be solved. I just wanna know, where is he now?”

Angie stared straight at Katrina. Katrina suddenly realized that maybe, it could be her fault. She asked, “Angie, what did that brat do to let you like him so much? He is so ordinary!”

“Because Victor saved me. Actually, he saved a lot of people last night. I’ve always thought that he was a timid boy, but his audacity was beyond my imagination,” Angie told Katrina about Zhou Qingfeng’s great achievement last night. At the same time, she exaggerated to make him sound amazing.

“Do you know who he faced? Two Russian, gangster fighters. They were bigger and stronger than my father, and they looked extremely scary. The two ruffians were bullies and they were going to kill a pity woman. The situation was extremely critical.”

“If it were me, I would’ve just screamed and ran away. Maybe, I couldn’t even have escaped. However, Victor stood up bravely and saved a life. It must have taken extraordinary courage for him to able to do that.”

“The upcoming story is even more thrilling. To help the prost.i.tute, Victor offered to help get back her pa.s.sport. Do you know where they were? They were in the fighters’ room of Cat’s Claw bar; it was a very dangerous place.”

“But Victor went bravely. He didn’t even think about his safety; he just wanted to help the poor prost.i.tute. I think G.o.d would praise him for his courage and fearlessness at that moment.”

“However, there was an accident. I was secretly drinking with a few friends at that bar and b.u.mped into Victor. I even misunderstood him and I felt so guilty. After I had a row with Victor, I was drugged, unconscious, and carried away by the ruffians.”

“Victor could’ve left after he got the pa.s.sport. However, when he found out that I was missing, he took the risk to stay and look for me. If he didn’t insist on staying, I think I would have ended up in the mortuary rather than in the hospital, regretting.”

“That’s why I really appreciate what Victor did for me. I think that, for a boy who was normally timid to stand up at the right time to protect me from the big and strong ruffians, he could be called great and kind-hearted.”

“Katrina, do you know what I mean? Can you tell me where is Victor? I want to find him.”

Angie’s words were simple, yet sincere. Zhou Qingfeng used to be an ordinary friend. However, what happened last night brought them closer, and they could be considered as close friends. She gripped Katrina’s hand and begged, “If Victor offended you, I apologize for him. He’s not a gangster; he’s a brave and honest man.”

Katrina never would’ve thought that the guy whom she had simply dropped was so important to Angie. She regretted and said, “Do you have his mobile number?”

“No, Victor is very poor. He doesn’t even have a mobile phone,” Angie said.

Katrina stood up and said, “If that’s the case, we can only go find him in person.”

Angie freaked out and asked, “Where is Victor?!”

“Alright, I admit that I might have misunderstood him,” Katrina said with a straight face. “I thought that he was just a gangster who likes to create trouble. So, I dumped him in the most chaotic street in Brooklyn. I hope he’s still alive.”
