Chapter 37        Execution

“Mr. Police Officer, you have been asleep for almost thirty-six hours,” the white man’s words made him feel a little better. The time was 6 a.m. in the morning. It was the 4th of August, 2030. It was twelve hours before the cataclysm.

“How’s the situation out there?” Zhou Qingfeng realized that he still had to deal with the police and the kidnappers.

“I don’t know. I didn't dare to go out. I saw the kidnappers killing people and I could only hide to wait for the police to rescue me. I didn’t see anyone, except for you, in these two days,” the white man stated that he did not know anything about what happened out there.

Zhou Qingfeng felt that his brain was clearer than before. He immediately processed his current problems. Other than the robotic dog, ‘DogMeat’, this laboratory was also included in his ‘wanted’ list.

However, Manhattan would be one of the most chaotic areas in New York after the cataclysm. All the illegal residents and the people at the bottom of society would be coming here - to this prosperous area - to try to get wealthy. This place would soon be destroyed and reduced to a mess, including this hospital.

“I need to move these equipments in the lab to a safe place as soon as possible.” Zhou Qingfeng had a rough plan in his mind, but, he needed to get rid of the problems he had before that.

Zhou Qingfeng found some accessories for the armband-computer, such as its charger and an ear-worn voice control unit. After he packed, he taught the white guy the method to escape the hospital. The white man could get out, but, Zhou Qingfeng could not. The kidnapping case had been going on for two days and the police were still out there.

What Zhou Qingfeng could do was to block the laboratory with the furniture from the hospital. He needed to think of a way to get through the next twelve hours, and to wait for the police to disappear and leave.

“Twelve hours, twelve hours. Tony Park, that b.a.s.t.a.r.d, could have already went for the robotic dog while here I am, wasting time,” Zhou Qingfeng looked at his armband-computer. He could only look at the doc.u.ments from Professor Alonzo to kill time.

While Zhou Qingfeng was going to be quiet for a while, something new happened to Locke and his men. After a thirty-six hour confrontation, The Fox Company expressed their willingness to pay the ransom. The police agreed to let Locke and his men go safely, as long as they didn’t hurt Miss Fox.

She was a celebrity in the upper-cla.s.s society of America, but right now, the elegant Miss Fox felt haggard. Even though she tried to stay as calm as possible, being threatened for thirty-six hours exhausted her to death.

Since the day Zhou Qingfeng caused some trouble, nothing was happening in the hospital. This rich girl was already doubting her escape.

The door clicked and the boss, Locke, walked into the room. He said very happily, “The consortium of your company just sent me a message. They didn’t just receive the authority of the central computer, they had spent the whole day confirming the integrity of all the accounting information.”

“The Fox Company is willing to pay the ransom. I can soon bring the money to some beautiful island in the Caribbean Sea and enjoy for the rest of my life. So, beautiful Miss Fox, it’s your turn to die. Hahaha!”

“Wow! Congratulations!” Lena Fox said very coldly. She tried to take a deep breath to be calmer in the face of death.

“Hahahah….” Locke turned his head and looked at his brother, Lachish, who was guarding Lena, “Kill her. Bring her body with us and fake a scene. Make it look like she is still alive to provide us more time to escape.”

Locke left the room happily after he gave an order to Lachish. There were only Lachish and Lena Fox in the room. The ex-bodyguard stood up, grabbed a rope, and was going to strangle his ex-employer. “Miss Fox, I’m sorry! Remember to repent when you see G.o.d.”

Looking at the grinning Lachish who was coming closer and was going to strangle her, Lena Fox blurted, “Didn’t you want to know how I found out that you had a problem?”

Lachish was distracted, inadvertently stopped moving, and asked, “Right. How did you know that I have a problem?”

“Because, you are dumb!” Lena Fox turned towards Lachish and opened her mouth. The hard seed that she had been hiding was between her teeth. She bit the seed and there was a tiny thorn that shot out of it.

The tiny thorn only travelled a meter, but, it was enough to deal with Lachish, who was in close proximity. This bodyguard suddenly felt numb in his neck. It was as if he was stung.

“What was that?” Lachish reached for his neck with his hand. As soon as he touched his neck, he felt his neck turn hard and extremely numb. He wanted to shout but the numbness was spreading very rapidly through his body. Very soon, it came to the point where he could not speak anymore.

The door to the room was still opened and Locke, who had just left, was a few meters away, laughing happily. Lena Fox quickly used her hands to grab hold of Lachish’s body and she smoothly grabbed his pistol from his waist.

“You…. you….. you…..” Lachish felt the body parts below his neck go numb and even his tongue could not move.

“Don’t forget the main job of the Fox Company. You really think that I’m just a harmless kitten?” Lena Fox looked properly for movement outside the room. She slowly put Lachish’s body down and said bitterly, “Remember to repent when you see G.o.d.”

Lena Fox walked out of the room quietly after putting his body down. She was already aiming at Locke’s head, which was swaying a few meters away. However, she did not fire as she did not want to alert the other kidnappers.

She held her breath, stayed cool and calm. Even though her heart was beating at a rate of up to nearly one hundred and eighty, she stayed steady. She moved slowly. She stepped backwards after she left the room. She was trying to find a place to hide.

However, in that area where Locke was, were his men. Lena Fox only came out for a little while, and there was already a kidnapper next to her. He shrieked, “Hey! Lena Fox is out.”

The triumphant Locke immediately turned his head upon hearing the call. He heard two shots being fired. He was astonished and watched as Miss Fox run away.

“s.h.i.+t, how did that woman get out?” Locke went to the door of the room and saw his brother lying on the floor, dead. He jumped on the spot and yelled, “Kill her! Kill her! Don’t let her escape!”

All of the kidnappers rushed out at Locke’s order. They quickly made haste in the direction of Lena Fox and fired at her along the whole way.

Lena Fox was shooting randomly, but, she did not hit anyone. She could only run; she could only try her best to run. She even discarded the pistol to run quicker.

She kept running and running…. Lena Fox came all the way from the room where she was arrested to the other end of the corridor. She saw a fire exit and when she pushed open the door, the door was locked.

d.a.m.n it! Lena Fox kicked the door, hopelessly.

The sound of footsteps followed. Seven or eight kidnappers blocked Lena Fox in front of the fire exit door. The breathless Locke walked forwards and yelled, “Miss Fox, how dare you kill my brother? It is unforgivable. Didn’t you want to die elegantly? I’m telling you now that you will have a miserable death!”

Locke aimed at Lena Fox with his pistol as he shouted. The well-known American celebrity’s face went pale. She squealed, “No…..”

A burst of rapid and violent gunshots reverberated!
