Originally, Li family hadn't been a large family. Li Tiangang, its current patriarch, had once served in the army, and did not really excel at geomancy. Li family didn't have many descendants. They had a couple of distant relatives, but none of them had any achievements, and neither did any of them have any fame.
However, Li family owed its current status solely to the only member of its younger generation – Li Zong.
Uncommonly gifted, Li Zong was a rare talent of Li family, who had been promoted to the leader of the first action group of Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB) as well as the deputy head of the organization at a very young age. Wherever he went, people would respectively call him "Supt. Li", which was a clear indication of his formidable strength.
Because of this, everybody was shocked by the news that Li Zong, whose achievements seemed to be beyond human capabilities, was going to marry that good-for-nothing of He family.
In fact, there were many precedents for a marriage between two families of cultivators like this in the realm of cultivation in this country, among which gay marriages were not rare. But the strength gap between Li Zong and He Zheng was too wide for people to believe this news to be true.
Even Li Zong's superiors in SMB called him to ask about this matter.
But these two interested families seemed to be unaffected.
At three o'clock in the after noon on this day, Li Zong's car drove into the messuage of He family on time.
The phantom-face sores on He Changchun's body deteriorated somewhat. On hearing the news of Li Zong's arrival, he struggled out of bed and went to the gateway to welcome Li Zong.
His other two sons and He Yu, his daughter, had already arrived.
Qiao Peiyu and her two sons were masters of pretence, but her daughter, who was her youngest offspring, was pampered and rather bad-tempered. Displeased, she observed, "Father, you're ill. Why did you come here? He's not really some important person..."
"Shut up." Qiao Peiyu darted a dark glance at her daughter, but there was no trace of anger on her face.
He Changchun didn't look very well.
He Yu continued to make sarcastic remarks in a cold tone of voice. "Why did you scold me, mother? He Zheng is nowhere to be seen! Why are we taking this so seriously?"
He Changchun asked in a deep voice, "Where's He Zheng?"
As if performing a good-cop, bad-cop routine with her daughter, Qiao Peiyu hurriedly replied in a tender voice, "He Zheng might still be sleeping. He had a long, tiresome journey and must be exhausted."
He Changchun was displeased. "Go and wake him up. This is unacceptable!"
Someone hastily followed the order.
A black go-anywhere vehicle slowly drove inside. He Changchun quickly replaced his unhappy face with a smiling one. He Yu, who had been casually standing there all along, remained indifferent.
The door of the car opened and with that a pair of long legs in suit pants were seen. He Yu flicked a glance at the legs and felt that this person had pretty good taste. When the man walked out of the vehicle, He Yu was transfixed with shock. 'He–He's so handsome! s.h.i.+t! It turns out this Li Zong that everybody keeps talking about is so handsome!!!'
Since this was a personal affair, Zu Zhichong wasn't with Li Zong. An old man got off the vehicle shortly after Li Zong. Wearing military uniform, the old man had an air of righteousness about him and looked even more dignified than He Changchun.
"Supt. Li! Master Li!" He Changchun pushed Qiao Peiyu's hands off him and hurriedly walked up to them, smiling.
He greeted Li Zong first, as if in his eyes, Li Zong's status was higher than Master Li.
"There's no need for formalities."
The old man beside Li Zong didn't care much about the order that He Changchun had greeted them in. He looked around and asked in a sonorous voice, "Where's my grandson-in-law? I'd like to see him."
Distantly, He Zheng saw these people standing at the gateway and knitted his eyebrows. At the thought of being among a group of people chirping non-stop, he felt an instant fit of unwillingness to go there.
Surprisingly, Li Zong had very sharp eyes, as if there were radar in them. As soon as He Zheng revealed his head, Li Zong spotted him and casually raised his hand to greet him.
When Li Tiangang caught sight of the young man standing in the distance, his eyes involuntarily lit up.
