Chapter 1 – The Little Girl Didn't Even Get to Eat Mushrooms

The new year always pa.s.ses quickly, the holiday of which you receive red packets, gone in the blink of an eye. Yan Xiaoxuan felt the small, flat, wrinkled bag by her side, curling her lip, feeling a strong resentment to her father.

Before, they were supposed to walk along the streets and wish everyone a happy new year and get their red pockets for the New Year, but, instead, her grandfather had to be an extreme shut in, forcing her to stay in as well. She usually never took even a step outside, like a maiden locked inside who's never taken a step outside. She hadn't even gone to the capital of the country, and she wasn't even allowed to go to the neighbours' houses to ask for red pockets.

Fine then, stay inside then, certainly others would come to visit, then? Red Pockets were easy to obtain. All she had to do was go to grovel before relatives with the blessing that she had been preparing for three days and three nights, however, with one word from her father, the was all wasted.

"This child has grown up, she can earn her own money, you don't have to give her any money. Wait until next year, then she'll return the money that you've given her these past years."

She was baffled, when did she start earning money? Also, her this year's, next year's, and next next year's money he all used to repay them.

Her father's face was calm as he gazed at her, "from tomorrow on, you will take care of the children in the Yu You Hall."

There was a clinking sound, a clear sound coming from directly next to her. Yan Xiaoxuan started strongly at the copper coins the had been dropped next to her. Standing up, she stared blankly, blinking.

She saw a cotton clothed old woman with a basket of vegetables on her arm standing in front of her, shaking her head, sighing, "What a pitiful child, why don't you go buy some food."

Hahhhh……

She didn't dare reach for her copper coins, just let the real beggars on the road take them. After a short while, she heard someone speaking.

"Little girl, you've been here all day. Did something happen?"

In two or the seconds, she had finished the steamed buns and couldn't stop eating. Widening her eyes and filling them with tears, she glanced up at the guard, her pitiful expression resembling a lost puppy.
