One week later

“Our objective is! Saving the townfolks who are invaded and manipulated by the monsters! We will exterminate the dead spirits!”

To the voice of the commander who’s leading the troops this time, the soldiers shout. This is amazing. It numbers about 1500. Ever since I’ve been in this territory, I have never seen this number of soldiers gather.

“What’s wrong, Lynk. Getting cold feet?”

After looking at the soldiers, Marie says something to me that’s completely off the mark. As if I’m going to get cold feet at this point in time.

“No way. It’s just that, I thought it’s amazing”

“Is that so. It’s fine if that’s the case. But, it’s indeed amazing huh. The soldiers as well but, the adventurers who were gathered are amazing as well. Though there’s only about 300 of them, there’s apparently an A-Rank adventurer as well”

“Aa, if I’m not wrong it’s『Wind Blade』, Aras.h.i.+¹? He uses a wind magic sword”

If the townfolks attacked us, the standard will be to render them unconscious. Only if there is no other choice is cutting them down permitted. I don’t really want to unsheathe my sword at the townfolks but, it’s for the sake of saving Mylene. Forgive me.

“……What’s with this atmosphere?”

Then, what we who arrived into the town first saw was, as though this town hasn’t been attacked by monsters, lives are going on as usual. The townfolks who saw us coming are instead looking at us suspiciously.

“……What is this about? Was this town really attacked by monsters?”

“Of course! We were actually attacked! The townfolks are being brainwashed. Didn’t I say that?”

The commander shows an expression that looks as though he doesn’t believe in what I said. This guy, don’t screw around after coming here. It’s true that they are living their lives normally so much so that even we feel that it’s weird but, they are being brainwashed so, their memories might have also been tampered with. At least understand that much!

“Anyhow, let’s go in. We just have to kill it when it comes out”

When the commander and I are glaring at each other, a guy with golden hair sighs from the back and went on without us. This guy is, A-Rank’s『Wind Blade』, Aras.h.i.+.

He walks ahead of us aloofly. Though it irritates me, it’s as this guy said. It’s not the time to be glaring at each other here.

After that, we quietly went into the town. On the west is a portion of the troop that the commander leads, on the east is Aras.h.i.+ and us adventurers along with a portion of the soldiers, the remaining north is also the soldiers.

The townfolks are shaking in response to us suddenly entering the town and the soldiers who remained are trying to stop that. To the response that isn’t too unusual, it seems the soldiers and adventurers couldn’t hide their confusion but, in the next moment, the air changed completely.

A soldier who had stood at the front got penetrated through the head by an arrow. At the same time as when the soldier who got penetrated collapse, arrows came pouring down like the rain.

The soldiers and adventurers are panicking because of the sudden event but, we hide behind the s.h.i.+eld that Gand is holding. Though the impact of arrows striking ran one after another, we endured it somehow.

I peek from behind s.h.i.+eld slightly and, about one-third of the soldiers and adventurers were penetrated by arrows. On the rooftops are skeleton archers lining up in rows, behind them are zombies who are pa.s.sing arrows to them. They were aiming at us with about 50:50.

Then, like before, the townfolks are manipulated and approaching us, alongside the zombies. They pursue and attack us who are getting into a panic.

“This is a pain”

What we heard from the other side of Gand’s s.h.i.+eld was, the voice of Aras.h.i.+ muttering sluggishly. As expected of an A-Rank adventurer, he’s able to cope with a situation that came out of nowhere as well.

When the arrows stop and Gand put away his s.h.i.+eld, in front of my eyes are Aras.h.i.+ and the soldiers who withstood it fighting with the townfolks. We missed the timing huh. But, our objective is not to fight the townfolks. It’s to look for Mylene.

“You guys, Mylene should be somewhere in this town. We definitely have to find her!”

“Of course!”

“Ou ou, this is quite the number of people that they’ve brought again”

I mutter as I look at the soldiers and adventurers who are projected in the picture. Mylene’s comrades are also mixed in amongst them. They are the ones who brought them here huh. Here and there are also capable people.
