Chapter 53 - Servant Development Bank
Translator: Lav
Editor: Levs
s.h.i.+ Lei felt as if he had been deceived. He rolled over the bed and almost ran out without putting on clothes.
Luckily it was already winter and as soon as he opened the door, a gust of frosty wind blew him right back into his bed again.
The warm bed was s.h.i.+ Lei’s most loyal friend and made his body warm again. s.h.i.+ Lei’s brain also recovered and functioned normally.
He recalled last night’s conversation with the Scepter and there was barely anything about this reward. Because s.h.i.+ Lei was overly concerned and all his questions were about those other things and he neglected these 9,300 yuan.
Although it was not even 10,000 yuan, and it was nothing to s.h.i.+ Lei as he now has 100,000 yuan per week, but it was the only money he could manipulate freely. Not mentioning about anything else, but if something goes wrong, s.h.i.+ Lei was expected to use this money to make up for the differences in the sum calculations.
No, he must get this 9,300! It didn’t matter how tiny the fly was, it’s still meat!
s.h.i.+ Lei didn’t jump off his bed recklessly this time. He put on his clothes under the blankets, finished brus.h.i.+ng his teeth and was.h.i.+ng his face before he left the dorm.
The first thing was naturally going to the self-service bank as he needed to talk to the Scepter in order to be of clear of the situation with this amount of money.
s.h.i.+ Lei took out his black card as he ran. He lowered his head and had a look, but realised that it was slightly different.
s.h.i.+ Lei had a careful look and realised at the bottom right corner, the bank logo had changed.
When he just got the card, all the way until yesterday, it was ‘Slave Development Bank’ written at the bottom right corner. But now, the English changed to ‘Servant Development Bank’.
Servant? What does that mean? s.h.i.+ Lei’s limited English vocabulary prevented him from translating this word.
He took out his phone and translated it. Then, s.h.i.+ Lei knew that the word’s definition was employee or maid.
From slave to servant? It seemed like he levelled up. Hmm, the word ‘servant’ really did sound better. Maid sounded liked he sold his body.
s.h.i.+ Lei was a bit gloomy. He didn’t know whether the change was from him levelling up from the training stage to level one employee, or because he saw through the Scepter’s little trick as he emphasised that he was not its slave and his relations.h.i.+p with the black card is of employer and employee.
If it was the second guess, then it would be more accurate of use the word ‘employee’. At least it was a more formal translation. What the h.e.l.l is ‘servant’?
But it wasn’t the second guess, then does it mean that every level will have a different ident.i.ty? If it was really like this, then the next level should be employee, and level three would be shareholder? Then level four would be partner, and s.h.i.+ Lei can even make himself the boss of the black card?
Obviously, it was impossible. It was probably because s.h.i.+ Lei’s acknowledgement to his own ident.i.ty changed. As to this word which still subtly hinted the meaning of slave, it’s most likely because of the Scepter’s vanity.
Oh well, it can do whatever it wants. What s.h.i.+ Lei cared about was the 9,300 yuan that belonged to him.
“s.h.i.+tou, where are you going?”
Someone patted s.h.i.+ Lei heavily on the shoulders. He turned around and it was Xu Yi.
“I just woke up and I’m hungry, I’m going to eat!” s.h.i.+ Lei waved his hands and wanted to leave. He needed to go and find the Scepter and did not have time to talk to Xu yi.
Xu Yi’s eyes shone as he heard this. He immediately said: “The rich is going to eat, I must follow! Let’s go to that place we went last time?” Xu Yi put his hands around s.h.i.+ Lei as proceeded on to talk without hesitation.
“It’s only 2 past, didn't you just finish lunch not long ago? I just woke, why the h.e.l.l are you going!”
“Obviously, I’m going to eat seafood with you. Don’t you worry whether I’ve eaten or not, I will not save any money for you.”
“I plan to buy two steamed buns, do you want some too?” s.h.i.+ Lei slapped Xu Yi’s hands away as he looked down to this kind of guy who would take any advantages of others.
Xu Yi laughed and said: “Stop joking. How can a fuerdai like you eat steamed buns like us. Plus, even if it’s us, we just came back to school this Sunday. Even we have enough money and don’t need to eat steamed buns. Let’s go, proud fuerdai, what are we eating today!”
“f.u.c.k off!” s.h.i.+ Lei’s phone rang as he talked. He saw that Xu Yi still wanted to come close to him and put his arms about s.h.i.+ Lei’s shoulders, he pretended to vomit and kicked him away. He took out the phone and the call was from Zhang Meimei.
“Mrs. Zhang, h.e.l.lo.”
Xu Yi was still trying and s.h.i.+ Lei waved his hands to tell him to stop. Over the phone, Zhang Meimei seemed to be unhappy and said: “Mr. s.h.i.+, it’s already 2:30pm. You should’ve come to my place to tutor Liangliang at 2pm. But I just called her and she said you didn’t even go?”
s.h.i.+ Lei was blank for a second and remembered that he had a tutoring job. He was confused: “You didn’t tell me that I need to go today.”
Zhang Meimei snorted: “I left early this morning. I was going to call you but thinking that you youngsters like to sleep on the weekend so I sent you a message. It was clearly written that I need you to tutor Liangliang today.”
s.h.i.+ Lei quickly checked his phone and just saw the message. s.h.i.+ Lei apologised: “I’m sorry, the messages I get are usually advertis.e.m.e.nts so I didn’t really care about it. How about this, I’m not far from your place anyways, I’ll go right now and we’ll start at 3pm.”
Hearing this explanation, Zhang Meimei seemed to think that the reason was acceptable and her tone was not as stern: “Fine, but I hope this won’t happen next time. Verbal promise also has the effect of a contract. You, as a University student, you should have basic knowledge on laws.”
s.h.i.+ Lei was speechless. He thought to himself, it was your one-sided announcement and I didn’t even agree? How did it become a verbal promise? But he was not the type to argue, so he said: “Ok, I’ll be careful next time. But Mrs Zhang, please call me next time, I’ve never checked messages ever since I had a phone.”
Zhang Meimei said nothing and hung out straight away. s.h.i.+ Lei heard the beeping on the phone and said: “Rude!” Then, he shoved the phone back to his pocket.
Xu Yi winked at s.h.i.+ Lei and said: “Mrs. Zhang, what’s happening there? This should be a beauty older than us, right?”
Although s.h.i.+ Lei knew that Xu Yi took it the wrong way, but Zhang Meimei was really a beauty and was almost 40 years old, so Xu Yi was really not wrong.
He nodded and Xu Yi said with a smirk: “As expected of a fuerdai. We can’t even get the girls in our schools and you are already onto those mature women. Tsk, s.h.i.+tou, your taste is quite perverted……”
s.h.i.+ Lei threw a kick at and Xu Yi could not avoid it in time. s.h.i.+ lei swore: “Dude, f.u.c.k off!”
“Hey, I can’t f.u.c.k off yet, haven’t eaten!”
“Steamed buns then! Don’t you see that I’m busy!”
“You are really having steamed buns? Never mind then!” Xu Yi ran off shamelessly.
