Zhang Xiao Qiang took the lead and brought the 40 odd men in. He did not use any fresh blood to attract the zombies out, the majority of them were sealed in their cells. Any scent of fresh blood would only incite them to go crazy. Three led the 9 elites and overtook Zhang Xiao Qiang and in a few moments, the sound of the QBZ-95 ARs firing could be heard. One after another, zombies with claws and fangs fell to the ground. Three took the lead with Zhang Xiao Qiang in the middle and the rest of the combat team following closely behind.

After clearing the parking lot, Three entered the main building as he and his men cleared the scattered zombies at the front. Zhang Xiao Qiang crossed over new and old zombie corpses with bra.s.s ammunition sh.e.l.ls everywhere. The messy ground was covered with dust that was seen everywhere. Dust covered the black and dried blood on the zombie corpses, the empty ammunition sh.e.l.ls and even on the white bones. In the middle of a pile of bones, Zhang Xiao Qiang spied a Type-81 AR dyed with black blood. He bent down and picked up the rifle which was also covered in dust, dirtying his black protective gloves with a layer of dust. He unclipped the magazine and saw the 7.62mm bullets laid inside. He clipped back the magazine into the gun and pulled the safety, aimed at the white wall and pulled the trigger.

“Dadadadada….” The lime plaster of the wall dropped to the ground with three new irregular bullet holes in the wall.

Zhang Xiao Qiang threw the AR to one of the combat team members behind him and continued walking ahead. With Zhang Xiao Qiang’s demonstration, the members behind started to inspect the ground, upon seeing any rifles or magazines, they would pick them up. They did not even let empty magazines go. As Zhang Xiao Qiang continued ahead, he heard the gun fires being more concentrated. He led the people behind up ahead and upon reaching an exit, he saw Three and the 9 elites in engagement while retreating slowly towards them. Behind the elites, a dense ma.s.s of zombies was surging towards them. Zhang Xiao Qiang took his Beast Horn Spear and moved forward and received Three and the rest as they retreated.

The exit was not large and could be blocked with three men standing side to side. Zhang Xiao Qiang stabbed at the zombies continuously, upon seeing that the entire team had retreated through the corridor, he turned and retreated. At the other end of the corridor, the survivors placed three s.h.i.+elds and protected themselves. The zombies squeezed into the corridor and crammed in front of the s.h.i.+elds while the survivors continued to retreat. The members supporting the s.h.i.+elds gritted their teeth as they lowered their heads and used their shoulders to exert force to push against the zombies. But there were too many zombies crammed together and with their totaled force, the three survivors holding the s.h.i.+elds were forced to retreat even further. Upon seeing them being forced to a difficult position, the other members immediately sensed the danger and rushed forward to support the s.h.i.+eld, all of them wis.h.i.+ng to push the zombies away.

A few of the large men all pushed together, but the zombies on the opposite side were still gathering endlessly, forcing both sides to be locked in a stalemate. Zhang Xiao Qiang equipped his Desert Eagle and moved back and forth behind the men. The combat team and the zombies were locked down, forcing him to have no other ideas. Three and the 9 so-called ‘elites’ were also crammed together. All of them looked at each other as they gathered all the strength they could muster in hopes of repelling the zombies. At one side, Three shouted at the top of his lungs, encouraging the combat team members.

Zhang Xiao Qiang unclipped a hand grenade from his belt, thinking to throw it into the zombie horde but hesitated, and ultimately stopped. His subordinates were all within the corridor, throwing the grenade out was easy, but who knew if the fragments of the hand grenade would injure his members? Furthermore, the grenade would induce a shockwave that would affect them. Zhang Xiao Qiang had too few members and did not want to lose any of them.

Suddenly, a thin Type-S zombie appeared from behind the horde. It jumped onto the zombies’ heads and quickly climbed its way forward. Upon seeing the agile Type-S zombie, Zhang Xiao Qiang became serious, he did not dare to be careless and raised his hand up and was about to press on the trigger when…

“BANG…..”

After the sound, the Type-S zombie right eye exploded with pitch black blood spurting all over and falling onto the other zombie heads. Zhang Xiao Qiang turned back and looked just to see Shangguan Qiao Yun lowering her Garand Rifle that still had smoke emitting out from its muzzle.

A gust of wind swept past Zhang Xiao Qiang’s ear as a figure in black swept past him. The lunatic Guo Fei had his blade in his hand as he jumped onto the shoulder of an elite and ran on the shoulders of the frontline soldiers. He lowered his body with the blade in his right hand as he ran on the uneven shoulders. Upon reaching the last line of defense where the zombies were clas.h.i.+ng against the s.h.i.+elds, he suddenly jumped over the s.h.i.+elds and stepped on the shoulder of a zombie. With both his hands on the hilt of this blade, he swung down and removed the claws of a zombie which flew into the air.

Countless of claws extended out towards him from beneath with the closest claw just a line away from his pants. He jumped and landed on the body of the Type-S corpse. This time, he did not hold back and ran further ahead on the zombies’ heads and shoulders. Right when he reached the side of the horde and was prepared to jump behind a zombie, another Type-S zombie jumped and pounced towards him. In midair, he swerved and danced with his blade as he dodged the Type-S Claws and landed on the ground. The Type-S zombie that had pounced towards him was cut down perfectly at its waist into two as both parts fell into the horde and submerged beneath them.

Only Zhang Xiao Qiang and Shangguan Qiao Yun were able to clearly witness Guo Fei’s lunacy. The others were huddled together and only felt a weight on their shoulders. Watching Guo Fei’s performance, Zhang Xiao Qiang’s chin almost fell to the ground. How was that killing zombies, isn’t that just sending himself to death?

Guo Fei landed behind the zombie horde, so Zhang Xiao Qiang was no longer able to see his situation clearly. He had no thoughts or consideration towards Guo Fei’s lunatic suicide, to him, everyone had to be responsible for themselves.

Not long later, Zhang Xiao Qiang noticed that the zombies at the back were slowly turning and attacking their back. Initially, it was only one or two, but as time pa.s.sed, pairs and more than three started to turn. The men who were holding up against the zombie horde could clearly feel the strength of the zombies dissipating, they shouted rhythmic steps and slowly pushed the zombies out. In the beginning, their progress was extremely slow but as time pa.s.sed, they became faster and faster. The survivors cheered, they started to push the zombies to the exit, where Zhang Xiao Qiang was able to see a shadow flickering endlessly within the horde as one after another, the zombies fell silently to the ground.

“ROARRRRR….”

A zombie was pushed onto the ground by the s.h.i.+elds. “Puchi….” The blade on a Garand Rifle stabbed into the zombie’s head, followed by a leather boot stomping down on the twitching head and the blade was pulled out.

“Pa pa pa….”

Three and two elites stood together with their 9mm pistols as they unloaded bullets after bullets into the zombie’s heads. The 10 elites used their pistols and fired at the zombies closest to them. Following their accurate precision, zombies kept falling. On the other hand, Zhang Xiao Qiang used his Beast Horn Spear to stab, whip or swipe at the zombies, causing them to fall at his feet. As the piles of corpses around him grew more and more, it became uncomfortable for him to use his spear. He swapped his handhold into a javelin throw and threw the spear into the chest of an incoming D2. The Beast Horn Spear flew in an arc and stabbed straight into the Type-D2 zombie. The sharp Beast Horn Spear penetrated through its body and nailed into the ground, firmly locking the Type-D2 zombie in place.
