S: Dragging by the head,

070.017 Y: Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).

P: It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth),

S: It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth),

070.018 Y: And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!

P: And h.o.a.rded (wealth) and withheld it.

S: And ama.s.ses (wealth) then shuts it up.

070.019 Y: Truly man was created very impatient;-

P: Lo! man was created anxious,

S: Surely man is created of a hasty temperament

070.020 Y: Fretful when evil touches him;

P: Fretful when evil befalleth him

S: Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him

070.021 Y: And n.i.g.g.ardly when good reaches him;-

P: And, when good befalleth him, grudging;

S: And n.i.g.g.ardly when good befalls him

070.022 Y: Not so those devoted to Prayer;-

P: Save wors.h.i.+ppers.

S: Except those who pray,

070.023 Y: Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;

P: Who are constant at their wors.h.i.+p

S: Those who are constant at their prayer

070.024 Y: And those in whose wealth is a recognised right.

P: And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged

S: And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion.

070.025 Y: For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking);

P: For the beggar and the dest.i.tute;

S: For him who begs and for him who is denied (good)

070.026 Y: And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment;

P: And those who believe in the Day of Judgment,

S: And those who accept the truth of the judgment day

070.027 Y: And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,-

P: And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom -

S: And those who are fearful of the chastis.e.m.e.nt of their Lord--

070.028 Y: For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;-

P: Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure-

S: Surely the chastis.e.m.e.nt of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of--

070.029 Y: And those who guard their chast.i.ty,

P: And those who preserve their chast.i.ty

S: And those who guard their private parts,

070.030 Y: Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,

P: Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy;

S: Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed,

070.031 Y: But those who trespa.s.s beyond this are transgressors;-

P: But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors;

S: But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits--

070.032 Y: And those who respect their trusts and covenants;

P: And those who keep their pledges and their covenant,

S: And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant

070.033 Y: And those who stand firm in their testimonies;
