Chapter 092 Scar
The pretentious man was armed with a long sabre, but it didn't hang by his waist like most sabres. He gulped down a mouthful of cheap wine and laughed in an unbridled manner as his left hand held the sabre hilt and waved it around every now and then, beating the people around him until they were staggering.
These people being beaten all either dodged the sabre or approached to offer their greetings.
He was one of the co-founders of the Ten Dragons Gang. Like Old Dragon Head, he had abandoned his original name in favor of a new one, 'Dragon Teeth'.
Most of the people here couldn't even hold their sabre firmly, revealing Old Dragon Head and Dragon Teeth as the seemingly only kung fu experts of the group.
It was not the detective's responsibility to determine the kung fu levels of the targets, but Gu Shenwei wanted to know every detail related to the mission, as he hoped to uncover the hidden conspiracy in it.
Dragon Teeth moved leisurely, as if he were a big fish swimming in a group of smaller fish, stirring up a flurry of excitement.
It was very easy to find trouble and have a fight here, one just needed to stare at someone.
"Kid, what are you looking at? Is your a.s.shole itchy? We can see if my sabre is big enough to scratch it."
As all of the onlookers laughed out loudly, Gu Shenwei shook his head, replying, "It's stained with your own s.h.i.+t, I don't want it."
After being cursed at and cursing at Tie Hanfeng several times, Gu Shenwei's 'cursing kung fu' had improved a lot. He could now instantly blurt out many words and phrases he wasn't even able to imagine before.
The laughters of the crowd grew and Dragon Teeth's expression sank accordingly. This was a common problem with people who liked dirty words. They would treated it as a joke when cursing others but felt that it was a burning shame when others cursed back. Only a 'cursing general' like Tie Hanfeng could stay calm, blocking and cursing back at anyone and anything.
Dragon Teeth drew his long sabre and threw away the sheath, both of his hands grasping its hilt. The drunks immediately moved out of the way, but they continued drinking and cheering, treating the fight as if it were the most delicious dish to accompany their drinking.
Xu Xiaoyi jumped around in the crowd, instigating others to bet with him as he shouted, "I bet the kid with sword will win, for sure!"
Luckily for him, the fight had already begun before someone talked to him. Thanks to this, he was able to keep the last few pieces of silver in his robe.
Dragon Teeth brandished his long sabre, which startled the people around him, causing them to fall back. Gu Shenwei responded by unsheathing his own short sabre, quickly stabbing forward and then retreating. However, he received a cut on the shoulder. Although the wound was not deep, his blood still welled up and stained the cotton-padded clothes.
All the drunkards cheered for Dragon Teeth. Xu Xiaoyi, however, was stupefied and couldn't believe what he had just seen.
"Wait, I'll call someone over."
Gu Shenwei left the words in the air and immediately turned to leave. This was the drunkards' standard way of giving up; he had heard about it many times.
Xu Xiaoyi caught up and kept asking what had happened.
Gu Shenwei hurried away without answering. He knew that Xu Xiaoyi wouldn't understand what he was thinking even if he told him.
Firstly, Dragon Teeth's sabresmans.h.i.+p was very mediocre. A killer could have ended his life three times before he even finished waving his sabre. Old Dragon Head's kung fu seemed to be at the same level as him. Therefore, the plan-maker's premonition that the mission might fail only confused him further. What could worry him about dealing with such an unorganized gang?
Secondly, the moves of the mysterious sword manual could only be used for killing and not for sparring. Just now his short sword had touched Dragon Teeth's neck, but it happened so fast that not only did the onlookers not notice it, but Dragon Teeth himself was also unaware. He didn’t block, continuing his move that hurt Gu Shenwei.
The two returned to their living place, forgetting that it was still early and arrived as Xu Yanwei was taking a guest. As soon as they pushed inside, they heard a whipping sound followed by a soft, miserable moan.
Xu Xiaoyi's expression immediately changed and he was stunned for a bit before he made a sudden turn to leave. However, it was extremely cold outside and there was nowhere else to go. He sat by the brazier, staring at the charcoal fire without a word. Suddenly, he covered his ears with hands and buried his head between his knees.
Gu Shenwei stood opposite of Xu Xiaoyi. He thought that he could be indifferent and that he should be indifferent. He was a future killer and although he was only fifteen years old, the people he had killed numbered far more than the dead men seen by the old. He understood the inherent cruelty and unfairness of this world and had long decided not to meddle others' business.
But he just couldn't bear it.
Gu Shenwei pulled out his sword and discarded the sheath. He walked upstairs and had arrived at the door of the bedroom before Xu Xiaoyi raised his head. He confusedly looked at 'Brother Huan' and opened his mouth, wanting to say something but in the end, shut his mouth.
Gu Shenwei pushed open the unlatched door and saw the naked back of a man. There were many lit candles in the room and the man's skin shone brightly under the flickering light as the black tattoo on the man's body seemed to come alive.
The man's left hand held a wine cup while his right hand gripped a whip. All the while, he was muttering excitedly, "Yell, b.i.t.c.h, yell louder …" All of a sudden, someone grabbed his wrist before he could use the whip again.
Gu Shenwei waved his hand and threw the naked man out; he then quickly turned around, trying to avoid looking at Xu Yanwei, who was tied on the bed.
"What are you doing?"
The one who asked a question first was not the confused and disoriented man, but an angry Xu Yanwei.
Gu Shenwei pretended that he didn't hear or see anything as he just continued staring at the enemy outside of the room.
The naked man clambered up and looked around for a while before noticing the teenager who messed up with him, shouting "Who the f.u.c.k are you?"
"Go away."
Gu Shenwei gripped the short sword and took a single step forward.
The man had drank too much and didn't realize the seriousness of the matter. He roared and rushed into the room with the whip, but when the candlelight illuminated Gu Shenwei's face he clearly saw it for the first time. His feet suddenly grinded to a halt and he stood in place like a dog in front of a wild wolf.
The naked man had dabbled in jianghu before, so he recognized the expression of a killer's visage, cold and stiff. He was terrified, immediately dropping the whip as his eyes turned to the pile of clothes not far away where the hilt of a sabre peeked out from underneath the clothes.
"You can take away your clothes."
The man stood motionlessly, as he didn't dare to move under the cover of killing aura.
"a.s.shole, what the h.e.l.l do you think you're doing?" Xu Yanwei couldn't feel the killing aura and she was not afraid of this teenager who had once killed two people in front of her.
Gu Shenwei once again ignored her shout. The room was s.p.a.cious enough for him to go around and use the sword as a sabre to attack the enemy from his side or back. If this man was a little bit clever, he should have realized that the best choice for him was to take his clothes and leave immediately.
The man was not drunk anymore and he moved with small steps and slowly approached the chair where he had placed his items. He picked up the clothes with his hand briefly touching the hilt before it was withdrawn. As soon as he finished picking up his clothes, he hastily stood up and left the room, feeling a burst of cold sweat break out on his back. As he fled downstairs, he hastily dressed himself and yelled out curses.
"Smelly b.i.t.c.h, you dare to fool me. Just wait, I'll call someone over." The man called out the standard slogan of giving up as he pushed the door open and fled.
Gu Shenwei's was now stuck in a somewhat awkward position as he only had difficult choices in front of him. Xu Yanwei was still tied to the bed and there were neither any women servants here nor could he call Xu Xiaoyi for help.
"Release me now," Xu Yanwei shouted angrily.
Gu Shenwei threw away the short sword, turned around, and grabbed the quilt to cover up Xu Yanwei. He caught of a glimpse of the shocking whiplash mark on the white skin before he quickly untied the rope on her wrist and immediately ran downstairs.
"Get out!" Xu Yanwei's voice was still chasing him.
Xu Xiaoyi was still sitting by the brazier, his face pale as he asked, "Do you know who that man was? He was Old Dragon Head's son."
"That's even better."
Xu Xiaoyi did not know much about the a.s.sa.s.sination mission and Gu Shenwei also did not want to explain it.
After a while, Xu Yanwei went downstairs where she stood aggressively in front of the two teenagers.
Gu Shenwei still remembered his first impression of her. She seemed tender, pet.i.te, nervous and panicky with her eyes wet with tears. That image bore no resemblance to this ferocious tigress in front of him now.
The sister and brother were both experts in acting, Gu Shenwei thought.
"Why? Why would you do that?" Xu Yanwei questioned.
Gu Shenwei also didn’t know why he did it, so he didn’t say anything. He just calmly stared into her eyes.
"He saved our lives once," Xu Xiaoyi said with a low voice, and stood on Brother Huan's side.
"Huh!" Xu Yanwei gave a short laugh, as if she had heard a big joke. "So he has the right to interfere with my life and tell me what to do? What do you want me to do? Feel miserable? Feel ashamed? Then wait for your sympathy, compa.s.sion and salvation? And as long as you forgive me, I should be as happy as if I were reborn and then do anything to please you, or even die for you?”
"No, I didn't want to tell you what to do."
"They you want me to repay you. Come, let's go upstairs. You can do whatever you want. Would you like me to be gentle? Wild? Rude? Miserable? You can use your sabre to beat me, and you can also ask me to serve you from head to toe."
Xu Yanwei stared with angry eyes, her chest heaving violently.
Gu Shenwei gestured at Xu Xiaoyi, who was nearby, "I just want you to be a normal elder sister."
Gu Shenwei felt a wave of burning pain wash over his heart as he said this. He had hidden this emotion very deeply for a long time, until it suddenly broke out right now before being cruelly buried by him again.
The house was quiet, and then Xu Xiaoyi lowered his head and said with a soft voice, "She is a good elder sister …"
Xu Yanwei stunned for a while, then turned to go upstairs.
"Wow, that's the first time she's shown such a big temper." Xu Xiaoyi said with a smile. He wanted to enliven the atmosphere as the nervousness in the ambient air was palpable.
Gu Shenwei didn’t speak. He found that he was getting more and more involved in the sibling’s lives, which was wrong. He was violating the most basic principle of a killer. Luckily the task was going to end soon and he could leave this situation again.
Xu Yanwei walked downstairs. She carried some items with her, like a knife, scissor, and gauze. She walked to the fire and coldly said, “Take off your coat.”
Gu Shenwei lowered his head. He knew about the sabre cut on his shoulder and the blood had already coagulated. He didn't care about the pain of the wound at all in his heart, but Xu Yanwei's voice had a tone of unquestionable authority so he obediently followed her instructions, laying bare half of his upper body.
Starting from below the neck and running all the way down to the waist, scars crisscrossed his skin, both long and short. They seemed to form an image, like a grim tattoo. It hovered and flew by circles in the fire light. In comparison, the whip wounds on Xu Yanwei's body now looked like painted rouge.
The sister and brother both gasped at this sight.
Some of these scars had come from his Master Tie Hanfeng, and some from enemies. It didn't matter since Gu Shenwei couldn't distinguish one from another anymore.
No more guests came during the night and the three took an early rest. At the beginning, Xu Xiaoyi was still worried that the Ten Dragons Gang would come for revenge so he nervously waited for more than two hours before unknowingly falling asleep.
Gu Shenwei crawled out of bed the next morning. He brought the sabre left by last night's guest with him and headed for another appointed site to report to the 'killing lord' of this a.s.sa.s.sination mission. The killing lord was a temporarily a.s.signed commander, whose t.i.tle would be immediately cancelled once the mission was over.
He still didn't understand why the plan-maker thought that the mission might fail. From his viewpoint, he could kill Old Dragon Head all by himself and make the Ten Dragons Gang disappear.
Gu Shenwei was hoping that he could have a good discussion with someone about it, but when he arrived at the meeting place, he was disappointed to find that the killing lord was the last person he wanted to see.
