ok everyone this one was long so long but here it is, as always tell me the mistakes. oh Btw i was wondering if you guys like the western style of family name like ( big sis, father, mother, big bro) or the more j.a.panese style like ( Onee-sama, Otou-sama, Okas-sama, Onii-sama) let me know what you think im fine with either. and one last thing im sorry for the phone viewers out there i haven't figured out the right way to make it appear bigger.

                              Wonderful Presents!

I don’t know how I feel about that last part, but I still had a lot of fun shopping with big sis!

We also made a promise to go again sometime, but next time we will invite big bro to go with us.

We headed home on a carriage, and, as expected, I was really tired and sleepy from all the fun I had. It looks like I might not be able to hold out for much longer.

Dee must have noticed me about to nod off, and so he climbed up onto the seats.

If Dee is next to me then there is no chance of me falling off the seats while I sleep.

Using Dee as my pillow, it seems that I went into a deep and peaceful sleep.

I didn’t even realize that we had made it back home, and I’m told that Paul tried his hardest to try and wake me up. Usually he would just let me sleep and carry me to my room, but I had shopping gifts to give to everyone and so he tried to wake me up.

I’m sorry I didn’t wake up.

Bang!

Suddenly, an explosive sound erupted.

A gunshot!?

I was so startled that my eyes flung open, wide awake now I felt incredibly frightened and so I latched myself onto Paul.

“Happy Birthday!!” everybody said in unison.

In the entrance hall was my family and our house servants, Dan and Lestine, and also, for some reason, Gwen. There were three ministers, who are all acquaintances of my father, and my Grandfather, General Gauche.

And finally, there was the King and his group.

I was completely stunned at this sudden development.

Paul gently lowered me to the floor, but I wasn’t really sure what I was supposed to do.

“We appear to have a roaring success on our hands. Our cute angel is certainly surprised after all.”

Yeah, I was so surprised my brain stopped working, you’re going to explain what this is all about, right?

“Everyone gathered to celebrate your birthday Nema.”

“We wanted to surprise you, so we kept everything a secret. You were pretty surprised, weren’t you?”

Mama picked me up and carried me in her arms. I was finally able to let my body relax.

Even so, just what on earth was that explosive sound?

Wasn’t that noise a bit too loud for a birthday cracker?

Hmm, the sound looks it came from a cylindrical object that big bro is holding. So it was a cracker then.

I take a look at the faces of everyone there once again.

Everyone has such dignified expressions. Even though you are all so busy, you gathered together for the sake of this small child.

But, am I happy? I’m so happy that my tear ducts might break, I wanted to try and pull my thoughts towards something else to stop them. But I couldn’t do it.

My voice is choked up by my sobbing, I can’t tell everyone how I feel.

“Aww! Did we surprise you enough to make you cry?”

Mother hastily comforted me, but for now I’ll just shake my head from side to side.

“Uewji… hik…”

My overflowing tears wouldn’t stop, it even became a little difficult to breathe.

My face is, without a doubt, incredibly unsightly at the moment! I’m crying so much it feels like my face will be swollen tomorrow as well …

“Are you crying tears of joy?”

This time I nodded my head.

Papa looked relieved to see that I was okay, he too then held and caressed me.

In a sense, I was thrown around to big bro and big sis, then to the King and Queen, and finally Vi.

Vi even went and clearly said that I looked unsightly! Mind your own business!

I went to big sis Olivia and big bro Sanras, and then to big bro Eugene who is rarely found in the royal palace. These three ministers feel like they’re brothers and sisters.  They’re families must be close.

“Big bro Gene!”

“You’ve grown Nema.”

“Tell me another story.”

Big bro Gene is employed as a Minister for Foreign Affairs, starting with neighboring countries, he travels across the entire continent of Las.h.i.+a. When he was younger he traveled to other continents too. I love hearing his stories of when he traveled!

I would like to go on a trip of some kind, someday.

And then I’ll play with lots of fluffy animals!

I get doted on a lot by big bro Gene, then the baton, me, gets pa.s.sed onto grandpa Gauche.

Grandpa Gauche is too lively, occasionally even I can’t keep up with him.

“Nema, just when will you become my adopted daughter?”

Excuse me? I haven’t heard anything about that, nothing at all.

Also, grandpa Gauche, don’t you already have a son and daughter to succeed you as well as five grandchildren? Your bloodline should be secure.

“Do I have to?”

“Gauche! Don’t put weird ideas into Nema’s head!”

Papa plucked me from old-man Gauche.

But, grandpa Gauche, you look like you are up to something. You’re a great tactician, so I’ll have to be careful so that I don’t end up caught in one of your traps.

“Everyone, thank you very much for gathering here today for Nefertima's birthday. There is food prepared in the hall, so let’s begin our celebration party!”

Finally! Food!

Maybe there will be meat on the bone crusted with herbs, or maybe bean curry? I wonder if there will be lots of fruit.

Prompted by Papa, everyone made their way to the hall.

The hall was decorated with a variety of flowers, and was even more gorgeous than usual.

Honestly, when did you prepare all of this?

If it was when big sis and I were out shopping then the skills that our servants have are a force to be reckoned with!

Speaking of which, apart from papa’s birthday, this is the first time I have ever seen the hall be used.

The rest of the family use the garden for their small scale parties.

“Evweyone, thank you bewy much!”

Before a toast was performed, I made sure to properly give my thanks anew.

The delicious food was calling out to me, but I have a responsibility.

“Now then, let us make a toast to Nefertima's healthy growth, cheers!!”

”Cheers” everybody shouted.

Well well. Big sis Olivia took the lead.

Isn’t that papa’s job?

Well, big sis Olivia is a big fan of alcohol, I guess she wasn’t going to be able to resist with the stuff right in front of her.

Ahh, she drunk her wine in a single gulp. It’s not beer, Olivia…

Leaving that aside, it’s about time I also started to dig in.

I went by dominating my favorite foods bit by bit. Unfortunately, I still cannot eat that much yet.

I guess the only thing I can do is wait till I get older.

Just as I was about to capture the stuff that looked like pasta, I was called by the King and Queen.

Hmm, what could they want I wonder?

“This is a celebratory gift from his Majesty and myself.”

I was handed a somewhat thick, rectangular box. The surface of the box was crafted with a delicate mother-of-pearl inlay. Isn’t this really valuable for just a box...

Darn. If my parents were next to me then I could have indirectly refused their gift.

But I wasn’t going to be allowed to refuse their ‘open it quickly’ looks they were giving me.

I’ll read the air and take the hint.

”Can I open it?”

“Yes. Of course.”

I gently opened it. The inside was divided into two levels, the first contained jewels, and the second contained a pendant.

No matter how you look at it, these are not things that you give to a child.

All of the jewels were cut into animals, some were quite cute. The pendant is shaped like a miniature bird cage, and it is constructed so that you can put one of the jewels inside.

“These here, these were made using magic stones, they’re filled with powerful and mighty magic.”

Uwah, what does that mean? It sounds dreadful!

It doesn’t matter even if her majesty said it in a sweet and lovely voice the same way one would say they made it with love and affection!

“When you use these magic stones, you need to say the magic words…”

Even the King… Even he has the face of a man who is up to something no good.

“Magic words?”

“That’s right. You have to say ‘Save me, dearest grandfather Galdy’.”

Huh? Save me Dora○mon? (this im unsure of the meaning of Dora○mon im sure its some kind of reference but i cant find it)

Is a four dimensional pocket going to appear?

“Just what sort of foolish nonsense are you spouting now, father?”

Thank goodness. Someone came in to give a retort!

Because obviously I can’t do it.

The only person who can make a retort to the King and Queen would be perhaps Vi.

“Foolis.h.!.+ How rude.”

“Heh heh. I understand how you feel, but we have to teach her the correct chants.”

And with that, the king properly told me the magic words!

The fire attribute, ruby-like red. It’s shaped in the figure of a dragon, did they match it with Sol?

The activation chant is ‘Farlem,’ which then lets you use the high level magic ‘Raging Salamander.’ A terrifying magic spell that continues to burn its target until it turns to cinders.

The wind attribute, emerald-like green. It’s shaped in the figure of a bird flapping its wings. It looks like a dove.

The activation chant is ‘Wiese.’ The magic spell is uses is ‘Forest’s Storm.’ It’s easy to guess what it does by the name, but it’s a magic spell with poor ease of use that summons a storm the size of a large typhoon with a radius of about 10km.

The water attribute, sapphire-like blue. The shape looks more like a dolphin than a fish.

The activation chant is ‘Aqudeen,’ and it uses the magic spell ‘Maiden’s Forgiveness’ to wash away everything in its path using a tsunami.

By forgiveness it means to wash away with water? No way.

The earth attribute, topaz-like yellow. It has the shape of a dog? I’m glad it’s not a wolf…

The activation chant is ‘Gunoh’asu,’ ‘Absolute Impa.s.se.’ A semi-spherical protective barrier that nullifies any magic or physical attack within a 1m radius of the magic stone. However, while it is active you can’t actually tell what is happening outside of the barrier. I don’t really know whether I should use this or not.

To think, that the activation chants are the names of this continent’s spirit rulers.

Can I remember all of them? Will there even be a time when I have to use these jewels??

“These are different from your mothers and father’s, these will protect you, so make sure to keep them on you at all times.”

Vi, you sound like you’re trying to say that these magic stones are too delicate and elegant to be useful.

Vi’s present is a bracelet with a small, green stone fitted into it. It’s not transparent, so it looks like a jade stone.

I asked him if it has some kind of special effect, and he told me it’s a secret. What’s that supposed to mean?

This was the start of everyone’s present attack.

The ministers gave me lots of dresses, shoes, hats and other things.

Isn’t it a waste, since I will outgrow all of these things shortly? But they said if I made a fuss then the clothes could be retailored, to a certain degree, to fit me. I was even told that, depending on the design, that the sizes of shoes and hats could be adjusted.

“Nema looks after her things right? And that’s why I racked my head around the designs so that you can use them for a long time to come.”

I was a j.a.panese person with a wasteful mentality, so to think that I won’t be able to throw away any of these things… Wait, big sis Olivier did the designs!? Amazing!

Skilled in both the literary and military arts while being gifted with intelligence and beauty. I would like to take her as my wife if only she could cook. But alas, it seems that this was the extent that G.o.d could do for her.

I received a sharp knife from grandfather Gauche.

I took a second look in surprise at the heavy feeling thing in my hand.

Why a knife? For my own self-protection??

But, why? Why are everyone’s presents based on the a.s.sumption that I am going to get myself into dangerous situations?

Gwen gave me an ill.u.s.trated encyclopedia from the volunteers of the Imperial Guards which contained all of the plants and animals across the entire continent.

Amazing, it even contains plants and animals from other continents! I’m can’t wait to read it!

Thank you, everyone in the Imperial Guards!!

I got a hair ornament from Dan.

But, this is no ordinary hair ornament!

“It’s a hair ornament made from the scales of the dragons at Ryūsha.” (Translator’s note: This is probably a typo, I believe they meant to say quicksand, “of the dragons found in quicksand.”)

That’s right, they’re made out of scales!

It’s shaped like the wings of a bird, but the feathers are all made out scales. The color hue changes based on how much light is reflecting onto them.

This is strange. When the scales are attached to the dragons, quite often they are colored gold and copper, brown, black, or dark brown. But they turn a rainbow pattern when the scales are taken off of their bodies.

Furthermore, the scales that were used in the ornaments were from the neck area, which contain the strongest scales.

“Even though they dislike being touched there, they let me take their neck scales off of them without getting upset. They just like me that much.”

After hearing that, I was involuntarily moved to tears.

d.a.m.n! They’re so cute!!

Next time I go to play with them, I’m going to give all of them a big hug!

“This young fella is from us.”

Lestine handed out something covered with cloth.

Young fella? Is it alive?

While letting Lestine continue to hold it, I timidly turned over the cloth.

And sitting there was a bird. Sitting peacefully on his perch.

“This little guy here is a friend of Greyhawk, he’s called a Rainhawk. Out of all of the ones born last year, he’s the smartest.”

It’s not the size of a chick, but if it was born last year then that means it’s still young right?

Isn’t it bad to take it out of its breeding grounds?

”Will he be okay?”

“He’ll be fine. We trained him to be raised in an estate, and we even made sure to get permission by his parents.”

Based on what Lestine just said, it seems that they planned to give me this bird quite a while ago.

I asked them about this guess and they said that whenever we went to the animal enclosure I would always stare at the Greyhawks and Night Owls, so they thought I wanted to raise one.

Did I stare at them that much?

When it came to the birds I would just look at the baby birds of prey. Yup.

After I asked them, they let the Rainhawk out of the cage for me,

It has black spots on its grey feathers. It is about the size of a dove. Some of the city’s doves might actually be bigger. Including in an ‘over fed’ meaning.

It’s small, but it seems to be able to fly better in rain, wind and other bad weather compared to other bird varieties. It lives in forest areas with pretty rivers and lakes, and it loves to bathe in water.

“Come out.”

I held out my arm and the Rainhawk flew out and landed on me.

I wonder if it’s had some kind of treatment, the talons don’t hurt, and it’s light enough for me to hold it. Only for a little while though.

Even though it’s small it’s still a hawk!

To its curved beak, to the way its muscles look, to the cute gesture it makes when it tilts its head. It’s so cute I think my nose might start bleeding!   (Translator’s note: You could also replace “my nose might start bleeding!” with just “I might faint!”)

“Let’s be friends!”

I unconsciously tilted my head in the same direction, well, who cares.

It has a soft, fluffy feel to it, it still has its baby feathers.

When it grows up, I wonder if it will outgrow those soft feathers. If I can only enjoy them now then I’m going to touch them to my heart’s content while I still can!

I also got lots of presents from all of our servants!

The maids gave me a soap set. The kitchen staff gave me a whole cake! They used my favorite fruits. It was really yummy!

The stable hands gave me a two-person saddle. They told me to use it with papa. Do I get my own personal one next year then?

I received a flower bouquet from the gardeners of course. After I’ve had my fun with the flowers, I can use them to make a Potpourri.

The butlers gave me writing stationary. They told me that it’s almost time for me to start studying at home. Aww… I’m not so happy about that!!

-Nema… wake up…

“Hmm, huh? I was asleep?”

After thinking about what to name my Rainhawk, before I knew it, I must have fallen asleep.

Speaking of which, was that Sol’s voice… or was that a dream?

-Have you awoken?

It wasn’t a dream.

I wonder what has happened for her to call me at this hour.

Everyone called it a night around the time when the King went home, and the adults who were still drinking moved to the living room. After seeing everyone off I went back to my room, and it was definitely the middle of the night when I was still thinking about what to name the Rainhawk.

-What’s wrong?   (Translator’s note: I believe this may be a typo and was supposed to be Nema’s thoughts instead of Sol talking)

-Can you come out to the balcony?

Balcony? That’s strange, but I turn my eyes towards the balcony anyway.

And there on the balcony were a pair of golden sparkling lights. Taking a closer look, I saw Sol’s face with her chin resting on the handrail…

Since when were you so playful, Sol.

“Sol!”

Even though it is the beginning of spring, the nights are still chilly. While getting gooseb.u.mps I made my way to the balcony, and embraced Sol’s face.

“Just like that, hold on tight.”

We moved to the garden from the verandah while I still hung onto Sol’s face.

I once again experience just how big Sol is.

My room is on the second floor, but because the first floor is quite tall, my room is about 5m high.

We drop to the garden, and there I see a large cage… Well, it’s more of a basket knitted together with ivy than a cage. No, is there a way to say it in English?
(Translator’s note 1: Part of the joke is that she first says 籠 (Kago) which can mean cage or basket, then she says バスケット (Basket) and realizes that she may have, more or less, said the same thing twice, basically she doesn’t know how to describe a picnic basket) (Translator’s note 2: She says j.a.panese in the original)

It was round with a handle right in the middle. It was a little deep, and big enough for me to sprawl out onto.

What is it used for? I’m not sure but it’s cute to imagine Sol carrying this around.

“Let me show you a little bit of the world.”

Sol picked me up using the nails of her forefeet and plopped me into the basket.

What, I’m the luggage!

A dragon carrying a basket with a child inside… Hmm… well I suppose this could happen in a fantasy world. Whether it would make for a good picture can be thought about later.

Because there were cus.h.i.+ons laid in the basket it didn’t hurt to be in it, in fact it was quite comfortable. This kind of nice enclosed s.p.a.ce, it feels like a… a nest?

No, it’s closer to the feeling of diving into a kotatsu. (is a low, wooden table frame covered by a futon, or heavy blanket, upon which a table top sits)

Yeah, that kind of feeling.

“Now then, let’s go.”

Sol gently flaps her wings and her body begins to rise, his forefeet grasp the basket’s handle, and we ascend.

There was no sound, which was strange.

There was no sound of Sol flapping his wings. I also couldn’t feel the wind or the cold.

Is this also because of magic? How handy. Of course, being able to use magic is very nice.

As we slowly rose, we gradually got an unbroken view of the entire imperial capital.

Lighting, like those used for security search lights, illuminated the royal palace.

From there, street lights at set intervals illuminated the streets that surround the districts as well as the main streets that extend outwards from the palace. It was so pretty.

Looking at it like this, I can see why the founding King was so fixated on this kind of design for the capital.

We pa.s.sed over the capital and headed north.

Gradually, the number of houses decreased, and a fantastic rural landscape bathed in moonlight stretched out before us.

The wind blowing the seedlings that were planted early was also beautiful.

A mountain range towered behind the seedlings.

And there was the mountain where Sol resides.

Looking at it like this, I can definitely see how wide the world really is. And how many different forms it comes in.

This world may look beautiful to humans. But, what do the Elves and beastmen who live in the forests at the bottom of the mountain range think?

In however many decades, will we be able to share our feelings of this beautiful landscape together, or will they just look at it alone.

As we moved further away from the life-abundant forest and even closer to the mountain range, the forest turned black, much like one that would appear in a fairy tale. A world where evil witches, monsters and the like rampage, a place where even the moonlight cannot reach its darkness.

“It’s kind of terrifying…”

“That’s not true. Here there are only weak monsters with no power.”

Aren’t all living creatures weak to you, Sol!

“There is also a beautiful place that exists in, what you call, the terrifying forest. Look.”

I look towards where Sol suggests, and my breath is taken away. No matter how much you try to express it in words, I don’t think that you could ever truly express the scene that laid out before me.

It’s probably the boundary line between the forest and the mountains. The withered and twisted trees were covered in a film of thin ice.

The trees were frozen in ice. I had never heard of such a phenomenon occur back at home, the surface of trees being completely covered in ice. I think I may have heard of something similar that happens in the northern areas back in my old world however.

Frosted trees? That may be wrong, but let’s call them that for now. No other name really comes to mind.

Perhaps due to the reflection of the moonlight and snow, the frosted trees shone a bluish-white light.

Just like my eyes, a bluish night sky and pure, clean white snow. In the midst of the limited colors around us, the tender blue hue was gentle to the eyes, and, it was also divine.

“Sol, thank you.”

I express my grat.i.tude to Sol while still staring at the frost covered trees.

“This world is filled with beauty. Fools are humans who do not notice and understand this.”

Yes, you’re right.

Humans are foolish, and weak, but they are also determined and pure.

Just surviving takes everything they have, they have no room to look at the world. Their worlds are within their own scopes, but they do not even notice the beauty within those confines.

Speaking of which, it was the same back when I was in my home world. When I first started living by myself, I often went to zoos and aquariums, but when work began to pile on I found myself not going to those places anymore.

To think, while seeking to heal myself that much, I ended up just distancing myself away from those places.

I’m trying to live my life here without regrets… wait, no that’s wrong, I’m going to try and do what I want here; without doing anything that would make G.o.d angry with me.

I named my Rainhawk Nox, so that I’ll never forget this night.

It means something like night, or darkness, otaku (nerd) knowledge sure comes in handy for times like these!

…Hmm? Did I just ruin the night by saying that?

The day after my birthday, I gave everyone the gifts that I had bought for them!

I also wanted to properly give my thanks for the birthday celebration, and so I gave each person their gift in person!

Papa was moved to tears, I actually felt a little guilty by that… I’m sorry I didn’t really think about what to give you and just picked something that looked fine.
