"The day after tomorrow, I will go to Yong Province. I intend to bring Si Nan Yan."

"……"

"Send someone tomorrow to Shou An Palace to inform her."

"……"

Xu Miaoyin froze. She didn't respond immediately which Zhu Feng felt strange.

"What's the matter?"

Xu Miaoyin raised her head and reluctantly smiled, "Things are complicated…"

Xu Miaoyin narrated clearly and thoroughly the events that had happened in Shou An Palace to Zhu Feng the day before. By the time she finished, the food on the table was cold.

The bowl of soup Zhu Feng had kept holding throughout the tale was suddenly put down. His expression turned the same dark that was currently plaguing the sky.

Xu Miaoyin said softly, "Lately, His Highness had been busy with the matters surrounding Yong Province, therefore this Consort decided to not alarm His Highness with this. Please punish this Consort as you see fit."

"……"

Zhu Feng was silent and did not speak. It took a long time before he coldly stated, "You did right."

"……"

"I don't want to get involve, and all matters about the Harem was handed to you anyway."

Nothing was said for some time. However, when he spoke again, Zhu Feng ended up going against his own words and continued on the subject, "Nan Yan really didn't give any explanation on the red coral bracelet in her possession?"

"She was unwilling to say anything more."

"……"

Zhu Feng was silent again for awhile, then suddenly started laughing. However, there was mirth in his laughter and his breathing became uneven.

He forgot about the bowl of soup cooling off and  brought it to his lips before Xu Miaoyin could stop him.

His whole body shook in cold fury.

Xu Miaoyin gave a meaningful glance to the servants behind who hastily replaced the cold food with something hot again. at servants behind to change into hot soup and meal, and then she uttered:

"Since Your Highness is bringing Si Nan Yan to Yong Province, then for this matter, this Consort can—"

"There is no need for preferential treatment," Zhu Feng interrupted.

"I won't waste any time on this. Act however you see fit."

Xu Miaoyin glimpsed at him before acquiescing.

It had yet to be dusk, nonetheless Nan Yan was already awake and sitting on the bedside. She was watching the light vanquis.h.i.+ng shadows on the floor as the sun was rising. Yet, her own world seemed to remain in the dark.

A weak light coming from outside interrupted her somber thoughts and slowly made its way to her.

Clang!

The lock was suddenly opened.

Nan Yan slowly raised her head and saw two figures standing at the door.

One of them was carrying a lantern in her hand which, as she stepped into the room, that lit it up with a faint red glow.

Nan Yan looked up and said calmly to the person in the black cloak behind the person with the lantern. "This servant greets Imperial Concubine An," Nan Yan calmly greeted only to be met with silence.

With her ident.i.ty revealed, Imperial Concubine An stepped out from behind the first intruder holding the lantern, and let the light chase away the darkness covering her face. It was undoubtedly Gao Yu Rong facing Nan Yan.

"Xiu'er, you wait outside," she ordered the servant.

"Yes."

Xiu'er went out while carrying the lantern.
The room returned to its former gloominess and was poorly lit again, but the current occupants of the room could still see each other clearly.

Gao Yu Rong slowly drew closer and said, "It seems that you already know what is going on."

"This servant is hoping for Imperial Concubine An to spare her life this time," Nan Yan replied from her bed, not denying the accusation.

Her tone was measured and gentle as if it wasn't her own life she was pleading for. Yet, this managed to unnerve Gao Yu Rong and her breathing started to become shallow.

"What? Spare your life? I don't understand."
