Yun Chang POV
Haa… Haa…
My eyes began to mist up a little and everything seemed blurry. I do not know if my mind is still steady but it’s empty for now. It seemed like I was thinking but also not, at the same time, I could not remember what led to the current situation.
There are a lot of things to say about what is happening now but this is most definitely my closest moment to death.
“Incoming!”
“Lord Guan Yu! Be careful!”
Thanks to Wen Yuan and Chen Dao’s roars, I was able to snap back to reality.
Un?! Coming again?!
“Zhou Cang, Guan Ping! Are the other girls in a safe place yet?!”
“They are!”
“Lord Hua Tuo is ready at anytime to provide medical a.s.sistance! Mother!”
Good. And stop calling me mother.
I raised the Green Dragon Crescent Blade in my hands and blinked as I looked ahead at the person ahead who was not particularly big but was more than enough to make me feel fear.
“Xuan De…”
That person lowered her head and seemed to be drunk as it muttered below her breath while wielding her double sided halberd. What she muttered pierced my heart as well.
“Lord Lu Bu! Big brother will return!” I plucked up some courage and said words that were both for myself and for this girl who had become a monster.
Yes. It’s very difficult to believe, or perhaps I do not want to believe, that the person before me is Lu Bu Lu Feng Xian.
When we learnt that big brother had gone missing, none of us believed that big brother had died. Zi Long then left shortly after to find big brother.
But in this period, Lord Lu Bu could not hold on to her sanity as expected. She went completely mad and attacked everyone indiscriminately.
And this time is Lord Lu Bu’s 6th time now. And this time is also the hardest for us who have had to deal with the previous 5 times.
“Ahhhhhh!”
“Chen Dao! Your side!”
Just then, Lu Bu began to move and lunged at Chen Dao with a single, swift step forward. I saw this and immediately yelled at Chen Dao while charging over to support her.
“Lord Lu Bu! Please wake up!” Chen Dao yelled but to no avail.
As Lu Bu got closer to Chen Dao, I could tell from her stance that she was going for the kill with a single, strong slash. Even if all I am unable to stop her, I must distract her somehow.
“Chen Gong! Cover her!”
“Incoming! Everyone careful now!” Chen Gong yelled and the rest of us who were charging over fell back.
Immediately, 4-5 arrows shot out at Lu Bu’s vitals–
“Uwaa!!”
A strong wind swept out in all directions following a roar as Lu Bu swung her halberd out and splintered the incoming arrows which fell to the ground in pieces.
“Ah!!”
“Yaa!”
She then swung at Chen Dao who managed to block it!
“Kua!”
In just a single bout, Chen Dao was sent flying to the side by Lu Bu’s monstrous strength.
…
At the same time, Lu Bu’s weapon was deflected into the other direction.
“Now!” Wen Yuan gave the command and Chen Dao quickly retreated, “Ya!!”
“Haa!!”
Wen Yuan and I slashed down at Lu Bu from different directions as I leapt into the air and somersaulted towards Lu Bu, using the momentum to strengthen my attack.
“…” Lu Bu merely remained silent as she raised her weapon to block our attacks. Though I believe Wen Yuan and my attacks are not weak in the sligh
test, she was still able to stop us with no problem at all.
“Yun Chang! Get back!”
Eh?
“Haa!!”
“Geh!”
But it was too late for me to react.
In the next moment after Lu Bu successfully stopped out attack, she spun her halberd and flung me out the side. Because I was still exerting strength on my weapon, this made me lose my balance entirely.
“Ha! Yaa– Ha!”
Wu!
Lu Bu saw this weakness and raised her frenzied eyes as she took a big step towards me and launched a series of attacks. I fervently defended and though the first few attacks were harrowing, I was still able to defend myself successfully, albeit with great difficulty.
I must say, Lu Bu’s martial arts prowess is simply remarkable. I’ve always thought that but now that I’ve had to fight her seriously, I firmly believe she is truly strong. Compared to the rest, her fundamentals are better. Clearly, she underwent rigorous training before. Though she knows many styles and stances, it seems like she prefers to use only one.
She first slashes down at one place, then she slashes down somewhere else. Though this was simple and predictable, I was having difficulty as she would deviate from this pattern at crucial times whenever I got used to it. What can I say, except as expected of Lu Bu.
“Yaa!” While I was preoccupied with my thoughts, Lu Bu did a turning slash.
Wu!
She’s been using this move for a while now but the power behind this attack is far beyond what I expected which is why I’ve taken to dodging it instead of blocking it.
Yes, now is not the time to praise her…
“Unaa!!” A yell came from some distance away as a wind followed closely.
“Mother! Spear!” Immediately, Guan Ping’s somewhat unnecessary late warning could be heard. By the time she yelled out, I was already in the air. I also knew that this spear was probably thrown by Liao Hua.
“…”
*Ding* *Gang*– A clear sound rang out as Lu Bu raised her hand and deflected the attack without even looking, sending the spear spinning into the air. It landed a distance away with dull clunk before spinning about.
When I looked at Liao Hua, I saw that she looked haggard and drained even though she was so calm and collected usually. She probably considers Lu Bu as the sort of opponent one cannot possibly win against.
Hu… I gave a long sigh. At least we were able to somehow stop this wave of attacks.
“My lord!”
“Un?!”
*Dong*
A dull thud rang out and when I looked over, I saw Wen Yuan kneeling beside Lu Bu. It seems like she’d slammed the hilt of her sword against Lu Bu’s chin but when I looked at Lu Bu, it seemed like her expression did not change at all.
Because of this, no one dared to move for the time being until Wen Yuan heaved a sigh of relief.
“Hu… It’s fine now.” Wen Yuan said comfortably, “My lord has lost consciousness from my blow just now.”
When she finished, Wen Yuan reached out and pulled Lu Bu up, who seemed to collapse like a deflated ball as she keeled over and her halberd fell to the ground.
“Guan Ping, go and help sister Wen Yuan.”
“Yes, mother!”
She still called me mother even after that hint huh?
“Ah, it’s finally over.” Chen Dao sighed as she collapsed to the ground.
“It’s been hard on everyone. Please accept my apologies in lieu of my lord.” Wen Yuan said as she lowered her head. She had a very apologetic and difficult expression on even though it was not her fault at all.
“Don’t mind it. Go and bring Lord Lu Bu to Lord Hua Tuo first.”
At the same time, this was not Lu Bu’s fault either.
“Everyone, status report please.”
I decided to put aside everything else and check on how the rest were doing.
“I’m fine. Lord Lu Bu did not target me.” Liao Hua said as she pulled her hat down. Looks like she is not in the mood for talking.
“That’s good then.” I felt relieved and looked to the other side, “Chen Dao, your injuries are rather serious right?”
Chen Dao’s clothes were riddled with holes from Lu Bu’s attacks. There was blood around the holes but her wounds were not deep. It seemed like Chen Dao had been holding on to her arm from the vicious attack from before however.
“Lord Guan Yu! I, I’m okay!”
She’s clearly not. Look at how much you’re sweating from the pain.
“Stop trying to endure it.” I said as I patted her shoulder, making her shudder, “Go and seek treatment from Lord Hua Tuo. She’ll give you some cream.”
When I finished, I did not dare to pat her and only gave a light push.
“Ah! Thank you, Lord Guan Yu!” She exclaimed gratefully with tears in her eyes as she forced herself to salute even with an injured arm. Really, I did not even do anything.
*Ta* *Ta* *Ta*
As I watched Chen Dao’s back, I heard several footsteps coming from the roof.
“Chen Gong! Are you alright!”
“… Ah.” Chen Gong coldly uttered a single word. She did not say anything else nor did she say anything about Lu Bu. She only looked into the direction where Lu Bu was carried to and jumped off the roof on to the other side.
Looks like she suffered a terrible blow from what happened to big brother too.
Ahahaha… What am I saying… Everyone has suffered a terrible blow from this. They just try not to show it.
I do not know how the others feel but for me, I’m just refusing to admit it. Should the day come when I finally recognise that big brother is no longer in the world, I cannot guarantee that I will not run amok like Lu Bu.
It seems to be the same for the others as well. Sun Qian and the other 2 bury themselves in Xinye’s administrative work, Liao Hua reads and sharpens blades, and Wen Yuan and I have duels or discuss cla.s.sic literature. As for Gan Qing and Mi Zhen, we did not dare to tell them anything and merely made an excuse to hide the truth from them in the time being.
But how long can this continue for?
When will Zi Long, who went out to find big brother, finally come back?
