Book 3, Chapter 4 – Collective Enhancing (Part 2)

After the four joked for a while, Jin Gang said, “Since we now know each other, then we are ready to enhance.  We have to form a team to complete the mission, then we must discuss the best direction to strengthen each other to best to form a complementary team.”

Shen Yi said, “My direction has already been settled down; I’ll use this Thunder Gauntlet. This time, I have to add Strength and also learn the basic level of Fighting Forte.”

“It doesn’t matter, we can enhance to co-ordinate with you.” Jin Gang said very seriously.

Although being a new adventurer Shen Yi’s strength was no doubt the strongest here; in that case, naturally, the others could only follow Shen Yi. Sometimes the world was so real, that although Wen Rou and others were not sn.o.bs, but if Shen Yi had no strength, they would not have looked at him.

The so-called normal attack damage to improve the effectiveness of attack is when the adventurers attack each other, the ability to play their own damage value.

For example: An adventurer had 40 points of Strength, it did not mean he would be able to deal 40 points of damage per punch.

Forty points was only the maximum value of damage, but it did not say that every punch could deal the maximum value.

Light punch and full force punch, the effect was completely different.

Don’t think that a skill dealing (2 x Strength) damage was equal to two normal attacks. In fact, damage of skills was effective and stable, and would not change. Even if one only gently touched the opponent, as long as he was using a skill, the damage value was still fully dealt.

Normal attacks were different.

The adventurers must attack the opponent with full power to display 100% of their own attribute damage effect. If the attack did not have enough concentration of power, then the damage was bound to decrease. If there is not enough Agility to support, it would result in less damage; the profit was lower than the losses. So, all the value of attack speed and attack damage only referred to the full value of the effect. But in actual combat, most normal attacks actually were not full damage value; half or even a third or a quarter was possible.

In addition to this, normal attacks could also be negated, blocked, or avoided.

Therefore, when adventurers fought, the outcome depended mainly on the skills of both sides. Normal attacks usually could only play a complementary role. Only after enhancing the Fighting Forte, the damage of normal attacks would increase to some degree. But even when upgraded to the Grandmaster level, it was impossible to make every hit always reach the full value of damage.

At that time, fighting techniques became important, but it depended on the ability of each person.

Because the b.l.o.o.d.y City didn’t provide fighting techniques, adventurers could only exercise and comprehend their own.

After buying the Basic-Level Fighting Forte, Shen Yi had 2697 BP left. He then added 10 points to Vitality and 6 points to Agility.

When wearing the Thunder Gauntlet, his attributes became: Strength: 10 (30), Agility: 13, Vitality: 30, MP: 30, Will: 10 (13).

With the remaining 1097 BP, 97 BP was used to deal with the cost of living this month, the remaining was retained; waiting for the next task to be temporary open.

Finally, Shen Yi added a skill point to Arc Trajectory, making it directly rise to Level 2; nearly reaching Level 3.

As for the other three, in this official mission, everyone had benefited, there were more than 6,000 BP of income.

This Ring of the Violent’s ability to increase attack power was quite powerful but consumed too much HP. Hong Lang clearly knew of Shen Yi’s healing skill and bullet, so he chose this ring.

Then, Hong Lang gave himself a Rank D axe.

“Two-handed Axe (Rank D)—Attack damage: 20-28, Requirements: 30 Strength, Basic-Level of Fighting Forte. Axe-type weapons comes with special effect: Knockback.”

This so-called special effect meant that, when using axe-type weapons to attack opponents, the adventurer had a chance to produce a Knockback effect.

Different weapons had different features but required users to be skilled enough to play its effect.

This axe didn’t have item skill, but it was one of the highest damage dealers in all Rank D weapons, equal to a Rank DD weapon’s attack damage. For Hong Lang who, already had an axe skill, it was undoubtedly the best choice. In this way, he became the most powerful melee-attacker among the four.

Jin Gang directly selected a Rank DD skill: Heavy Strike.

“Heavy Strike (Level 1)—Hitting the opponent deals (5 x Skill Level) damage, causes 1~5 seconds stun effect, stun duration depends on the opponent’s level, as well as skill level and the opponent’s Will. Priority: 32.”

The biggest problem with this skill was that the damage was too weak, but as a crowd control skill, it was quite strong. The skill Priority was even higher than Shen Yi’s Vampire Touch. In the Difficulty Level I, there was basically no one who could be immune to its stun effect. If Jin Gang himself was alone, his crowd control skills had little meaning, but with Hong Lang’s melee attacks it was not the same.

Five seconds of stun was enough for Hong Lang to cause terrifying damage to the Slums District adventurers, or even kill opponents. Priority of 32, in the same Difficulty Level, adventurers would be affected with almost no exemption.

Wen Rou selected a Rank D whip; her whip skill finally had room to play.

“Single-handed Whip (Rank D)—Attack damage: 6-8, can attack three targets at once, the target range limit is 3 x 3 meters, attacking the enemy has 5% chance to cause Tearing effect. Causes enemy to lose HP for 5 seconds, the first second enemy loses 15 HP, the amount of lost HP is reduced by 3 points per second. Priority: 14. Whip-type weapons comes with special effect: Bind.”

Except for the attack damage being too low, this whip’s effect was quite good, especially when Wen Rou’s whip skill, coupled with Jin Gang’s stun skill; it was excellent in controlling the enemy. Although the trigger probability of Tearing was only 5%, attacking multiple targets at the same time was tantamount in improving the effect of trigger probability.

Because her own attributes were not enough, Wen Rou didn’t choose to buy skills, but spent BP to enhance a lot of attributes and used her skill point on Enhanced Hearing, making it Level 3. Level 3 Enhanced Hearing not only enhanced the hearing range and sensitivity but more importantly, she could lock onto the familiar source, filtering out the meaningless noise. Always hearing sounds like a group of mosquitoes buzzing was really upsetting. In the last mission, Wen Rou’s Enhanced Hearing did not play a big role mainly because of the firing on the battlefield; it was full of guns roaring. Wen Rou was almost afraid to use this ability. However, after leveling up, this skill’s side effects were gradually subsided, making her feel much better.

After the collective enhancing, they went to the training ground together to practice hard.

In the free time they had, they went to the bar to drink and chat.

In the Slums District, where the facilities were poor, drinking seemed to have become their only entertainment.

As for information on Operation Market Garden mission, Hong Lang had sold it several times; but it was used to buy other adventurers experience on missions. Fortunately, the BP of the first sale was still kept there. They used those BP to drink and eat a meal.

But most of the time, they were still buried in the training ground.

Wasting time here was really equal to wasting life.

A month’s time ended soon. Shen Yi finally leveled up all three of his skills to Level 3.

Arc Trajectory (Level 3)—Can visually lock onto 3 targets, Visual Lock duration: 7s, Distance Limit: 300m.

Despicable Healing Arts (Level 3)—Cost: 2MP. Has a high effect when used to treat foreign and bleeding injuries, recovers 50 HP. Has medium effect against penetration, tearing, shock, or injuries inflicted by skills, recovers 30 HP. Has low effect against body failure (like broken arm) injuries, poison injuries, etc…, recovers 5 HP. Has no effect against unique effect damages. Cooldown: 60s.”

Hong Lang accepted the recommendations of Shen Yi. He used a point in Strong Impact. Coupled with hard training, he raised it’s Level to 5.

Strong Impact (Rank D, Level 5)—Deals (2 x Strength) damage to a single target, with a 10% critical chance. Cost: 3 MP. Cooldown: 1 minute. Priority: 17.

Jin Gang raised the Level of Heavy Strike to 3; the skill’s Priority rose from 32 to 36.

Everything was ready, the rest was to wait for the advent of the task time.

On this day, Hong Lang, Wen Rou, Jin Gang, and other people came together to find Shen Yi.

“Hey, the day finally came.” Wen Rou smiled and talked to Shen Yi.

“Hope this time it’s still a teamwork scene.” Hong Lang said.

“If not, as long as the task is not directly for the enemy, we can help each other.” Jin Gang said.

Thinking for a moment, Shen Yi replied, “If there really is a day we must become enemies, then we’ll choose to deliver BP to bear the failure of the mission. In any case, we will not fight each other.”
