For a long time there was a dispute between the partisans of Surrey and Yorks.h.i.+re as to which 'Richmond Hill' was referred to. The former county was the favourite for a long time, till a communication in _Notes and Queries_ (10th series iii. p. 290) pulverized its hopes and definitely placed the locality in Yorks.h.i.+re.
