Chapter 10

The 10th Pit – “This is different from what I expected”

In the forest, attacks came from all directions.

Dongfang Wuqiong barely dodged them as he carried Gong Changsheng. Shadows flashed all around the trees and bushes, and it was hard to determine just how many enemies there were at a moment’s notice. Furthermore, they were clearly well-prepared. Dongfang Wuqiong sensed formations and traps all around him, and if fighting it out here would simply put them at risk.

“Sheng’er, run!”

Dongfang Wuqiong summoned his treasured sword and activated a defensive mystic artifact.

“We’re going to charge straight out. We will expend the least energy that way, understand?”

“Yes, senior martial brother!”

It was not suitable for them to fly on their sword within a forest, and if they were to fly up high, they would become open targets. Furthermore, Gong Changsheng had yet to establish his Foundation yet and was unable to fly his own sword. When carrying an extra weight, it was basically impossible for Dongfang Wuqiong to escape by air. And even if he were to go for a defensive fight, it wouldn’t bring about advantages either. They were in a situation where he was unsure of his opponents’ numbers and cultivation level, and they were also standing in a forest that obstructed their vision, and not to mention was filled with traps. A defensive battle would undoubtedly be an expensive option, and the moment they run out of juice, it would mean the end of their lives.

Their opponents seemed to have never thought that

Dongfang Wuqiong would actually bluntly charge straight out, with a defensive mystic artifact activated. As they charged, they ignited several traps and formations. As they approached the borders of the forest, explosions filled the entire riverside and their high-grade defensive mystic artifact had already been sc.r.a.pped as well, but the two were still completely harmless.

“Wuah! It’s actually broken! Once we get back, I’m going to get nagged by the treasury’s Sixth Elder again!”

“Senior martial brother! Don’t lose focus!

After Gong Changsheng stopped his feet, he knew that he had already charged out of the area where the traps were. He wielded his sword and faced the forest, preparing himself for battle. Though he could sense that the shadows were still moving about in the forest, clearly, they found Dongfang Wuqiong’s method unexpected and did not charge out.

“Yes, yes, yes. Sheng’er, you’re very obedient.” Dongfang Wuqiong still carried the same laxed expression, as if the seriousness he had when he summoned the mystic artifact earlier was just an illusion. As he responded Gong Changsheng, he raised his treasured sword and pointed at the forest. “I don’t know who you sacred ones are, but you have treated these humble ones so lovingly, to the point where you have put in so much effort into greeting us. Would it be convenient for you all to show your faces?”

The forest leaves once again shuffled about, but still not a single person appeared.

Dongfang Wuqiong drew a flower with his sword, and then stabbed his treasured sword into the

the ground. After that, he bent his waist and carried Gong Changsheng up.

“Senior martial brother!?”

Gong Changsheng was still in a battle preparation stance and was frightened when his two feet suddenly hanged in the air. When he realized that the person who carried him up was Dongfang Wuqiong, though he found it uncomfortable, he did not struggle any further.

“Fine, fine. I had actually wanted to find out your names, so that I can put up monuments for all of you when we get back. Since you’re all so shy…”

Dongfang Wuqiong carried Gong Changsheng with one hand, and then patted his head with the other.

“Sheng’er, do you know?”

“Know what?”

“The sword of a pellet cultivator… is never used for battle…”

As he said that, his treasured sword which was stabbed on the ground emitted out a bright light. From the center of the light, a formation drawn in green characters speedily expanded.

“This lowly one is Dongfang Wuqiong. Though I am but a pellet cultivator, I’m not that weak to the point where I will allow myself to be bullied by any random heterodox fools!!”

Gong Changsheng couldn’t see it. Within his darkness, all he could hear was the loud explosions. If he could see, he would have been shocked by the scene before him. The completed green formation resonated with the trees that began to glow, and huge vines shot out from the ground. Some vines ignited the traps and formations that were not activated earlier, while some a.s.saulted the shadows. Screams continued to echo. Some lucky

Some lucky devil pract.i.tioners rose into the air, planning to escape for their lives.

“Before this a.s.sault, did no one inform you all that this one is a single wood spirit vein holder? Forests… are my territory!”

The few devil pract.i.tioners were scattered in the air could not escape the huge vines in the end. When Dongfang Wuqiong had finished his speech, the attackers had all died.

“Sheng’er~ Isn’t your senior martial brother handsome?”

“Senior martial brother, I can’t see.”

“Uh…”

He had initially wanted to earn some credit, but he was once again shot down by his junior martial brother.

Dongfang Wuqiong drew a formation for Gong Changsheng, and instructed him not to run off. Then, he went to retract his vines and began to investigate the corpses that filled the place. There were about twenty devil pract.i.tioners, and they had a range of cultivation levels. He couldn’t find out about their background either, and only understood that he had merely fought off a bunch of cannon fodders. Dongfang Wuqiong decided that there wasn’t any need for further investigation and returned to Gong Changsheng’s side. He tore down the formation, and the two of them began their preparations to search for the cave residence where the inheritance resided in.

“Senior martial brother, did you kill them all with a single move?”

“That’s right! How was it? Isn’t senior martial brother amazing?”

“Then why didn’t you use that move right from the start?”

“Uh… This… I had to first scatter the seeds.”

“Seeds?”

“Plants don’t sprout out from nowhere. I merely gave birth to them~”

“Ou…”

“Also, those to them~”

“Ou…”

“Also, those vines don’t differentiate between allies and enemies. I can’t let Sheng’er be in danger~”

“Ou.”

When Dongfang Wuqiong was talking about his battle tactics, Gong Changsheng’s replies all sounded as if he was still pondering about the matter. As for the loving words that were directed at him, he actually responded to them expressionlessly with a short “Ou.” Dongfang Wuqiong simply felt disheartened, extremely disheartened.

After winning a battle, shouldn’t his junior martial brother be shouting, “senior martial brother, you’re amazing!”, while looking at him with a revering expression and eager to jump on him?

“Senior martial brother, can’ you not slack off? The treasure searching device seems to have picked up something.”

While he was frustrated, he was once again poked by the heartless Gong Changsheng.

The light emitted by the treasure searching device was pointing straight towards the riverbed. Dongfang Wuqiong thus pulled out a corresponding water riding mystic artifact from the storage pouch. After instructing Gong Changsheng about its uses, the two of them went into the water and continued their search for the cave residence’s entrance.

After the two had completely dove into the water, the ripples on the river surface slowly spread till they completely disappeared. A few people walked out of the silent forest. The person at the very front looked at the river surface and let out a chuckle.

“The eldest disciple of Mount Shu’s Mysterious Inscription Sect… It seems you amount to just that!”

Right after, he signalled with his hand, and everyone dove into the water in a well-trained manner.
