On the streets, Da Tian Ting didn’t know where her home was. Her uncle’s home and the Shang family’s home were not her home. Why did her heart feel empty like she lost everything?
‘Why the long face?’ Feng Kai Ze asked. ‘You were happy a moment ago.’
‘I feel like I lost,’ Da Tian Ting said.
‘Don’t you mean you won?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
‘I won one battle and lost the war,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘I have no family, no home and I’m all alone. During the festive seasons I’ll be celebrating on my own.’
Da Tian Ting held her head high, and didn’t allow herself to cry even if she felt like she had no life purpose.
Feng Kai Ze hugged Da Tian Ting in the middle of a street.
‘You have me,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Da Tian Ting’s diary, no it was her heart that helped him endure his lonely existence in the last sixteen years.
Da Tian Ting moved out of Feng Kai Ze’s embrace.
‘It’s not the same,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘Remember you’re not allowed to touch me without my permission.’
‘Have you forgotten that you’re my girlfriend?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
‘Fake girlfriend,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘The wedding’s over and so is our fake relations.h.i.+p. Starting now, you go your way and I’ll go my way.’
Da Tian Ting and her heavy heart walked away from Feng Kai Ze. He was the first person outside of her family that cared about her. But she knew he had a complicated ident.i.ty, and she didn’t fit in his world. Someone who could burn six figures like buying lunch wasn’t a pauper.
Feng Kai Ze chased after Da Tian Ting, dragged her inside his car, drove off and stopped on the side of a remote road.
‘Hey,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘What are you doing?’
Inside the locked sound proof car, Da Tian Ting didn’t want to disturb the tensed silence by breathing.
‘Feng Kai Ze, tell me what you want from me,’ Da Tian Ting said.
‘I’ve told you what I want from you since the start,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
‘Can you stop playing games?’ Da Tian Ting asked. ‘I know you’re a rich boy who has a lot of time and money to spend on me. But I have no time and energy to play games with you. I’m asking you to find another woman to play games with.’
‘I told you, I’m not playing games,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Da Tian Ting didn’t let herself fall into Feng Kai Ze’s tempting trap.
‘I’m asking you to let me go,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘Even if you’re not playing games with me, we won’t work out.’
‘Why not?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
‘We’re from two different social worlds,’ Da Tian Ting said.
Feng Kai Ze held Da Tian Ting’s hand.
‘Shang Duan Hua is considered an average rich boy,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘How come you can accept him, but you can’t accept me?’
Feng Kai Ze didn’t believe Da Tian Ting couldn’t see his sincerity during the weeks they spent together.
‘It’s not the same,’ Da Tian Ting said.
‘It’s not different,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘Money is money. Why can’t you accept me?’
‘Right now, I’m drained,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘Let’s end on good terms. Believe me, we won’t work out.’
Feng Kai Ze held Da Tian Ting’s shoulders so she couldn’t avoid his eyes.
‘Da Tian Ting, listen carefully,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘Things we’ll never be over between us. In this lifetime you’ll be my only woman and wife. We belong together.’
After Shang Duan Hua’s betrayal, Da Tian Ting believed it was true about once bitten twice shy. She was scared of loving Feng Kai Ze, because if he left her too then she didn’t think she would recover from another person abandoning her.
Feng Kai Ze held Da Tian Ting’s face.
‘I’m sorry,’ Feng Kai Ze said. ‘I didn’t mean to scare you.’
Feng Kai Ze hugged Da Tian Ting.
‘I’m begging you not to leave me,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Da Tian Ting’s diary wasn’t enough. Feng Kai Ze needed Da Tian Ting in his life. He didn’t know if he could face his future if he had to walk it alone without her.
Da Tian Ting heard Feng Kai Ze’s desperate plea, it reminded her of her father’s desperate plea that day. She let him hug her, but distance her heart from his heart because a pauper and a rich person wouldn’t work out.
‘Mr Feng, is it that hard for you to let go of me?’ Da Tian Ting asked.
Feng Kai Ze let go of Da Tian Ting.
‘Letting go of you is like asking me to die,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Da Tian Ting was Feng Kai Ze’s home. If Feng Kai Ze didn’t have her to come home to, he felt there was no purpose for him to be alive.
Da Tian Ting was scared of Feng Kai Ze’s live or die kind of love.
‘Tian Ting, is it that hard for you to accept me?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
‘I don’t know,’ Da Tian Ting said.
Da Tian Ting needed time to think about if she could afford to take another gamble.
‘I’ll wait for you to accept me,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Yang Fei’s phone call interrupted Feng Kai Ze’s declaration.
‘Why did you call me?’ Feng Kai Ze asked.
Yang Fei hated being Feng Jia Yong’s messenger.
‘Tell that old man that I rather die than giving my consent,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Da Tian Ting was worried why Feng Kai Ze tossed the phone in the backseat, and looked like he wanted to kill someone.
‘Hey,’ Da Tian Ting said. ‘What happened? Why do you look like you want to kill someone?’
‘An irrelevant old man is pressuring me to do something that I rather die than do what the old man wants me to do,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
‘Who?’ Da Tian Ting asked.
‘If you want to know, marry me and I’ll tell you who,’ Feng Kai Ze said.
Da Tian Ting thought Feng Kai Ze always used the same trick whenever he wanted to avoid answering her questions.
‘I don’t want to know,’ Da Tian Ting said.
Feng Kai Ze smiled, and drove Da Tian Ting home.
At the Feng Mansion, Yang Fei hated being Feng Kai Ze’s messenger too.
‘Yang Fei, tell me what my son said,’ Feng Jia Young said.
‘Boss, your son said he rather die than marry Miss Hong,’ Yang Fei said.
‘Uncle, if Kai Ze doesn’t want to marry me then perhaps we shouldn’t force him,’ Hong s.h.i.+ Na said.
Hong s.h.i.+ Na wanted to marry Feng Kai Ze, but he wouldn’t agree to marry as long as that woman was in his life.
‘My son is marrying you,’ Feng Jia Yong said. ‘Your father and I made a pact that my son will marry you.’
‘Uncle, Kai Ze has som…’ Hong s.h.i.+ Na said.
‘I’m his father, I get to decide who he marries,’ Feng Jia Yong said. ‘My son and your wedding is scheduled for next month. I promise my son will exchange wedding vows with you next month.’
Feng Jia Yong’s promise rea.s.sured Hong s.h.i.+ Na that in another month she would be Feng Kai Ze’s wife.
