Book 1 Chapter 18.1 – Dark Battle
Other than the Security Bureau 9th Division and 11th Division, the Security Bureau has one more power that not many people knew about. This power was the Security Bureau 13th Division.
The Security Bureau 9th Division and the 11th Division all practiced internal energy and made up the absolute force of the Security Bureau. In addition, this Security Bureau 13th Division was like an ‘inconspicuous mountain that did not leak any water’, and all of their members trained their physical bodies. Its members were all created from using the A1 and A2 gene medicines, and as for the A3 medicine, although they successfully developed it, its production costs were too high and was thus not used extensively.
Although the Security Bureau 13th Division had nearly 100 third-rank experts with powerful physical bodies, compared to Security Bureau 9th Division and 11th Division, the difference was still quite large. Now, however, the Security Bureau 13th Division did not receive any important tasks anymore, and this was due to the appearance of the B1 gene medicine changing everything.
Fourth-rank experts were still considered absolute experts even within the underground world, and were considered Xiantian level. Although this B1 gene medicine was extremely dangerous, the country only experimented on people who were on the death penalty. They would immediately wipe their memories following this and begin to brainwash and educate them, transforming them into unconditionally loyal warriors.
With the appearance of such fourth-ranked experts, this allowed the Security Bureau 13th Division to greatly increase in status, making it almost equivalent in power to the 11th Division. After all, the amount of time those 11th Division Xiantian experts had to spend on cultivation was simply too long.
Within the short period of a year, the Security Bureau 13th Division already had more than 30 fourth-rank experts. Recently, however, the Security Bureau 13th Division slowed down its production of fourth-rank experts.
The production costs of this B1 gene medicine was equivalent to that of the A2 gene medicine, and each set of production amounted to roughly 1 million dollars. It was sold through back ends to America for 5 million, but that amount still could not be considered large. After all, for these things, profits would usually outweigh the production costs by ten-fold, yet currently the profits were only four-times. The mortality rate of the B1 gene medicine was also 90 percent, so while they did obtain 30 fourth-ranked experts, they also killed off almost 300 death penalty criminals. Killing off those individuals on death penalty wasn’t a big deal, after all, they were going to die by the law anyway. However, at the same time, 300 units of the B1 gene medicine were consumed as well, wasting roughly 300 million dollars.
The country’s total expenditure towards the Security Bureau was only several billion dollars. The majority was used on secret spy services, and although the efficacy of the Security Bureau was quite good, they were still only given 500 million dollars. The main function of the Security Bureau 13th Division was researching the life sciences, and the majority of the funds were used on researching. Typically, the research work would use up around two to three hundred million dollars. Because of this, the Security Bureau 13th Division could only produce thirty fourth-rank experts a year.
Because all of these fourth-rank experts depended on the powers of their physical bodies, the peaks of their powers were rather short and only lasted roughly 10 years. Because of this, the Security Bureau 13th Division could only have 300 fourth-rank experts at most during a single period of time.
However, the Security Bureau 11th Division had several dozen fifth-rank experts, and three to four hundred fourth-rank experts. The most important thing was that they were experts that cultivated internally, and so the higher their age was, the stronger their powers became as well. Some of the old farts that persisted on living even reached sixth-rank within Security Bureau 11th Division. This made it so that the Security Bureau 13th Division had to forcefully look for a way to break through, otherwise, it would be impossible for them to even be equal, not to mention surpa.s.sing the 11th Division.
The Chief Leader of the Security Bureau 13th Division was precisely the Old Chairman within the Biological Research Inst.i.tute.
…
Within the office of the white-bearded elder.
“Heng, I don’t believe that the Security Bureau 13th Division I founded is inferior to that old Zhang’s 11th Division!” The white-bearded elder puffed his beard and scowled as he looked at the doc.u.ment in his hands; it was obvious that he was furious.
This doc.u.ment described the A-ranked and above missions carried out by both the Security Bureau 11th and 13th Division, and it was obvious that the achievements of the 11th Division far surpa.s.sed that of the Security Bureau 13th Division’s.
What kind of person was the white-bearded elder? He was an old fellow that lived almost a hundred years! He came from a true cultivator clan, and when he was young, he developed an interest in biological research. He wholeheartedly threw himself into this field, and it could be said that his pa.s.sion made him ‘neglected sleep and forget about food’. He had already reached the Xiantian realm when he was young, and so his body’s quality was better than an ordinary individual’s. Each day he would only need three hours of sleep, and after obtaining the Golden Dan, the need for sleep was reduced even more so. In regards to biological research, there really wasn’t anyone in the world who could compare to him. After all, those biological science research students of the same era as him, Bai Yang, have already long pa.s.sed away. Even if they were still living, they would all be eighty to ninety years old, meaning that their brains would no longer work like before. Only a true way cultivator like Bai Yang could become stronger as they aged and reach the point where they wouldn’t even need to sleep for an entire day; a true way cultivator’s mind was also definitely greater than that of a youngster’s!
With his abnormal nature in researching for the country, how could the country’s life sciences not reach the world’s peak!
The A series gene medicine was indeed created by him, and later on America obtained a bottle of A1 gene medicine through some special methods. Following that, with two years of research, they also managed to reproduce it.
Now, Bai Yang learned his lesson, and made sure that he was the only one in control over the B1 gene medicine. Each time it was used on an experimental subject, he would have to personally do it. That’s why recently after other countries obtained information of the existence of B1, they sent out countless spies, however, none of them succeeded. After all, to seize the gene medicine from the hands of a true way cultivator, those hidden spies did not have that kind of strength. Before they could even draw near, they would already be noticed by the old Bai Yang.
“En, that test subject who originally had 30 crystals of power in his physical body obtained roughly 7000 crystals of physical body power. Would it be possible for someone who originally had over 100 crystals of energy to gain over 10,000 crystals of energy from using the B1 medicine?” Bai Yang was always thinking about the creation of a fifth-rank expert.
Since the number of experts created per year was now fixed, then the quality had to be improved! A fifth-rank expert’s value would obviously far surpa.s.s that of a fourth-rank expert.
“That Li Yang trained for a year already, he should have surpa.s.sed a hundred crystals by now right?” Bai Yang rubbed his white beard, and immediately pressed the b.u.t.ton on his desk. Soon after, a youth walked over.
“Teacher, do you need something?” The youth asked Bai Yang with veneration.
Bai Yang laughed lightly, and said, “Go bring Li Yang here!”
The youth’s eyes immediately lit up, “Teacher finally decided to bring him back, this is too great. He will be the one with the highest physical power thus far, but we can’t be sure if he can surpa.s.s 10,000 crystals after using the B1 gene medicine. If he does surpa.s.s it, it would mean that we can produce fifth-rank experts!”
Bai Yang looked at his own student and smiled while nodding his head. “This represents the future of our 13th Division, hurry along!” Bai Yang began to feel a bit overwhelmed by his emotions.
They’ve been oppressed by the Security Bureau 11th Division for too long, and with Bai Yang’s arrogance, how could he accept it? With hope appearing for the 13th Division, how could he not be excited? Although his expression was calm, it was simply because he was utilizing his true way cultivation.
…
“Li Yang, prepare yourself. Follow me to the base’s third layer to undergo experimentation!”
Li Yang who was lying against the ice cold metallic wall was suddenly startled, and immediately had a smiling expression on his face. “It’s been a year now. After waiting for a whole year, the time to use the gene medicine has finally come!” Li Yang threw the strong alcohol in his hands away, and slowly stood up…
