Hao Ren went and made tea, then helplessly stared at the two abnormal life forms in the living room to no avail.
A vampire girl who was displaying a face full of caution and Lily who was huffing and puffing angrily were seated on the opposite sides of elongated tea table.
The two’s situation resembled one where weapons were fully drawn and could be at each other’s throats at a moment’s notice.
A bone chilling coldness and a sense of raw savage power in the atmosphere surged between their locked gazes.
Hao Ren could almost visualise light grey smoke whirling around above the tea table. Tea had already been placed on the table, but in no way did these two super women plan to take this chance to resolve the conflict.
Under this oppressive atmosphere which made one quiver, Hao Ren could only continue to try and stay unnoticed as much as possible.
He used his fragile human const.i.tution to forcefully withstand the twofold pressure brought about by the werewolf and vampire, all while thinking hard of a way to make them believe each other’s words.
Lily was insisting that the vampire wanted to suck the landlord’s blood and everything the latter was saying was due to being unable to defeat her. Therefore, she made it up as a means to cover her tracks (who knew where this r.e.t.a.r.d’s confidence came from). Furthermore, Lily insisted that Hao Ren was already under the vampire’s captivation spell and was currently speaking nonsense. Meanwhile, the vampire was insisting that Lily wanted to coerce humans in order to create an opportunity to conceal herself within human cities, and all of Hao Ren’s opinions were because he was threatened by the werewolf……
Therefore, it became a deadlock where neither party believed the other. While, at the same time, neither one believed the third party, and there was no fourth party to be found on site……
Oh, there actually was a fourth party here, which was the black and white kitten crouched not so far away eating food.
This amazing creature seemed completely oblivious to the arctic winds blowing around in the living room, it guarded a pot of cat food as if it was the world.
Hao Ren almost wanted to question whether or not this cat was also an “alien”.
“Then.”
Finally Hao Ren as host couldn’t help but break the silence. He first turned to the source of all the misunderstandings, which was that vampire girl:
“Say Ms. vampire, what happened last night……”
“Please don’t use vampire to identify me.”
The beauty was dressed plainly, yet gave off the feeling of a natural cold gracefulness, slightly knitted her brows.
“Only those servants who have nothing but instinct can be considered vampires. Those of us who can suppress the Scarlet (censored)[1] are considered n.o.bles among the Kindred. Humans have deep misconceptions about us, therefore they always get it wrong. I can’t tell you my full name yet, so just call me Vivian for now.”
“Oh,” Hao Ren nodded.
Though he didn’t know the difference between blood sucking servants and high level n.o.bles, even less so what Scarlet (censored) was. He could however see that the cool beauty in front of him was actually in fact very compliant, “Vivian, right. Then last night you weren’t attacking us? You were actually trying to help?”
“I saw a human and a werewolf together, wasn’t sure if you were being tricked or threatened,” Vivian nodded and continued:
“Originally I wanted to grab you straight away. No matter what kind of curse the werewolf used on you, their lowly spells are easy to deal with. Though my state was poor last night, to even……to even get injured from hidden weapons. Wild beasts are wild beasts after all. There is nothing they won’t make use of when fighting, no beauty in it to speak of at all.”
“Hypocrite.”
Lily snorted:
“If you can’t win, you just can’t win. You’re still looking for so many excuses. Why don’t you tell me how I threatened the landlord, ha? He’s alive and kicking. I didn’t even restrain him.”
The cold wind beside Vivian suddenly increased:
“Werewolves’ claws carry curses, you think that I don’t even know about such common knowledge?”
As soon as Lily heard this, she abruptly looked down at her hands:
“Oh wow, I’m that powerful?”
Hao Ren decided to ignore this r.e.t.a.r.d and instead turned to look at Vivian. He spoke full of sincerity:
“Look, I’m really not being threatened! I swear to G.o.d, Lily didn’t curse me!”
Vivian immediately nodded.
Just as Hao Ren joyfully thought that this va- ……. Kindred girl finally understood, the other party went on to say in all seriousness:
“Don’t worry, I know you won’t speak the truth either due to the curse or my abilities. Wait until my status recovers, then you’ll see. This wild dog who only knows how to throw bricks isn’t even an opponent for a high order Kindred!”
As soon as Lily heard this, she slapped her palms on the tea table. Immediately, a large spread of cracks appeared across the surface:
“Who are you calling a wild dog?! You rat with wings!”
Vivian also no longer suppressed her hostility. She shot up from her seat, causing a visible layer of frost to quickly develop on both the tea table in front of her and the sofa behind her:
“Do you think you’re hot s.h.i.+t? Wanna fight again, huh! Just because you guys were unable to control your instincts doing stupid sh*t everywhere, today’s state turned out like it did!”
The originally controlled murderous intent finally spread out after being released by their owners. This was accompanied by two thundering roars, then the whiz of arctic winds and the faint howl of a wolf. “Roll”, who lacked awareness, finally realised something was wrong.
It quickly gobbled up two mouthfuls of cat feed and dashed to the second floor with a *chuu* sound, leaving only Hao Ren who looked at his furniture while burning with agitation:
“My tea table……”
No one knew how he withstood this wave of killing intent.
“Don’t worry landlord, I will compensate for it.”
Lily was a good girl after all and quickly recognised her own fault.
Even if she was in a furious state, she still apologised to Hao Ren.
Hao Ren already understood completely.
The werewolf in front of him was a r.e.t.a.r.d, but that kindred lived in a totally different dimension!
Although Vivian seemed to look normal, apparently her brain was probably not much better than Lily’s.
Is it that hard to find some people without personality defects these days?
Just as Lily and Vivian were about to start fighting with no holds barred, Hao Ren’s originally abundant patience was finally worn out.
He smashed the tea table forcefully with a tightened fist and using the utmost imposing voice that he could muster, he yelled:
“Enough! This is my home!!”
This roar and that punch was not something that Hao Ren – this lethargic and eternally kind person – had done in many years, but even a listless leopard had its brightest moments when compared to a lion.
The vampire and werewolf maidens finally recognised that this was someone else’s home and one of them also recognised that she still owed the landlord a tea table’s cost; therefore, they both stopped uniformly.
Their four eyeb.a.l.l.s unblinkingly stared at Hao Ren.
“What you guys looking at me for?”
Hao Ren was surprised as he had quelled the two ‘abnormals’ with his roar just now – he didn’t think he had the courage to yell in front of these creatures who could kill with a wave of their hands (and further managed to suppress the scene after yelling out). But right afterwards, he felt that he did not live in vain for having achieved this feat in his lifetime.
Right now, seeing the four eyes on him, he felt that he couldn’t care less and suddenly it filled him to the brim with an inexplicable burst of confidence:
“Just take a look at yourselves. One r.e.t.a.r.d, one stubborn mule! I am the party involved here, okay? You guys, don’t neglect the person in question’s opinion before arbitrarily coming to a conclusion by yourselves, okay?!? Also is th..th…this suitable for people of your status? Since when did werewolves and Kindreds start selflessly protecting humans? You guys need to let me – the most confused guy, understand the situation first, then you can sort out your misunderstandings, all right?”
Hao Ren had held back on this question for ages now.
These days, information traveled at explosive rates and cultures were intermingled. Who wouldn’t know of a vampire or werewolf story.
If you went and casually searched in the fantasy genre of films, at least two out of ten films had something to do with these two creatures.
In the eyes of Hao Ren, senseless blood thirsty werewolves and callous insidious vampires were eye-catching points which symbolised them. The two personage in front of him……what was going on?
He was unable to understand this problem, and he couldn’t grasp the pace (of events) even if he killed himself looking!
Unexpectedly, Lily and Vivian surprisingly voiced in unison:
“I’m different from that wild creature!”
The two girls looked at each other a little surprised.
This was followed by a *humph* and both of them turning their heads away. They clearly believed that only they themselves were being genuine.
“I don’t know what’s with other clansmen. They seem to be unable to live if they are not opposing humans. But I was with humans as soon as I was conscious, “ Vivian said as she held her arm.
“Also, I instinctively……hate the other clansmen. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know myself. It was like this from young anyway. I also can’t stand other ‘abnormals’ fighting against humans, they’re too stupid. That’s all.”
“I’ve not seen other ‘abnormals’.”
Lily sniffed, as if very uncomfortable towards Vivian’s “smell”.
“I woke up in a very cold place, should be a snowy plain and was already humanoid when I woke up. I was taken in and brought up by an old lady, thereafter spent the following tens of years with humans. Only when they started suspecting my appearance which didn’t grow, would we then move house. I like humans; I’m used to humans, is there a problem?”
Hao Ren looked at these two abnormal life forms and decided to trust them.
Trusted or not, it was the same anyway – he couldn’t beat even one of them if he tried.
