<– chapter="" 7:="" legend="" of="" legend(lol)-awakening(3)="" –="">
He thought he followed Atlan for about 10 minutes?
Lee-joonhyuk was able to see a downhill road. The downhill road reached the bottom of the hill, and it stretched towards a 5 meter tall tower. Archers were placed on top of the tower, and it seemed to be used as a guard tower.
In front of the tower, there was a bridge. The bridge was about 15 meters wide. In front of the tower, those who hadn’t dropped out were lined up with a different group. When combined, there were about 100 people outside.
Across the bridge, there was another tower of similar size built there. In front of it, there was a group of people standing ready with armors on, but it was hard to see them since the distance was too far.
When he saw this sight, he clenched the gold coin in his hand harder.
It had taken them 10 minutes to get here. If one wanted to calculate the time to reach the watchtower, it would be within 20 minutes. Michael had died with so little left to travel. The only thing that was left of him was a mere gold coin.
Lee-joonhyuk glared at the Atlan’s back. He was skilled enough to kill the wolf in one strike, so he was capable of helping them.
Atlan ignored Lee-joonhyuk’s gaze, and he walked towards the guard tower. Eventually, Lee-joonhyuk let out a deep sigh, then he followed after him.
As they approached the guard tower, Atlan and Lee-joonhyuk didn’t speak to each other. They just went straight into the guard tower. Lee-joonhyuk lifted his gaze, and he saw a woman leaning on the bal.u.s.trade on top of the guard tower.
She wore clothes a magician might wear. When the woman met eyes with Lee-joonhyuk, there was laughter in your eyes.
Lee-joonhyuk stood still as he looked at her, and he felt someone approach his side.
“What happened to the black brother?”
When Lee-joonhyuk turned his head, he realized it was the Korean man in his late 30s. He also had left Lee-joonhyuk, and Michael behind. Lee-joonhyuk didn’t have much words to say to him. He looked over the bridge, then he spoke after he licked his lips.
“It is none of your business.”
Lee-joonhyuk didn’t blame him. However, he had no thoughts of laughing and sharing stories with him.
When Lee-joonhyuk didn’t respond to him, the man became angry instead.
“You were the one who was too nosy. I did nothing wrong.”
“I didn’t say anything.
Lee-joonhyuk looked straight at the man as he spoke. Truthfully, Lee-joonhyuk had a lot of anger towards Atlan, and he was angry at this ridiculous situation.
When anger filled his eyes, the man closed his mouth, and he turned his gaze away.
Lee-joonhyuk still felt the sensation of the gold coin in his palm, so he was thinking about Michael’s last moments. Lee-joonhyuk slowly turned his head, and he heard the people around him murmuring.
He followed the people’s gaze, and he could see the woman standing in front of the guard tower’s entrance. She had a robe on like a magician, and one could catch glimpses of her figure through the slight gaps in her robes. Her figure was breathtaking. One could see a good amount of skin, and it was no worse than being almost nude.
However, he didn’t think she looked erotic. Also, she was 2 meters tall. (TLN: snu snu)
She raised her forefinger, then she crooked it towards him. Lee-joonhyuk pointed at himself as he turned his head in question. The woman smiled deeply, then she spoke as she nodded her head.
“Yes. You there. Come here.”
Lee-joonhyuk approached her. The others whispered behind his back, but he ignored it. When he stood in front of her, she spoke as she looked down at Lee-joonhyuk.
“Follow me.”
Lee-joonhyuk followed her into the guard tower. The guard tower was a bit special. Bricks weren’t stacked to make it, and there weren’t any seams. The tower seemed to be made out of a single stone. In the inner part of the tower, woods were embedded to act as stairs.
The woman climbed the stairs without saying anything, and Lee-joonhyuk followed her. Once they reached the top of the tower, the woman looked at Atlan as she spoke.
“I can explain it to him?
“He is qualified to hear it.”
Atlan turned around as if he had nothing else to say, then he spoke.
“I’ll be back.”
“Don’t over do it.”
Atlan coldly jeered as he replied.
“It all depends on what that crazy b.a.s.t.a.r.d does.”
As Atlan descended, the woman spoke as she took his arm into hers.
“You asked Atlan for an explanation?”
“Yes, I did.”
“You are fortunate that you didn’t die.”
Truthfully, Lee-joonhyuk knew he had almost died. The woman spoke, while she smiled.
“My name is Vera. If you have any questions, ask me. I’ll educate you to the best of my knowledge.”
Lee-joonhyuk asked a question he wanted to know most.
“Where is this place?”
“It is the Canyon of Death.”
Lee-joonhyuk frowned.
“You know that isn’t what I asked.”
Vera laughed with her eyes. He was taken aback by her height of 2 meters, but he knew she was quite the beauty.
” If I were to answer the root of your question, then this place is the Dimensional Battlefield.”
“The Dimensional Battlefield?”
“Yes. Resources are summoned from each dimension, and a battle takes place in the Dimensional Battlefield.”
Is what she said possible?
“Is this a dream?”
“Dream? I guess you could see it as that. Currently, your body should be asleep.”
Suddenly, a thought brushed by his mind.
“The Abnormal Sleeping Disorder?”
Vera shrugged her shoulder as she answered.
“Any ways, your soul has been summoned here. If you die in the Dimensional Battlefield, your soul will die. Then your body will never wake up.”
Lee-joonhyuk couldn’t help, but feel a chill. Currently, there were over 100 thousand people in a coma.
“Are you saying over 100 thousand people has been summoned here? Moreover, they had all died?”
“Only 100 thousand people? I guess it hasn’t been long since it started.”
“What do you mean?”
Vera walked toward Lee-joonhyuk. She approached him as she spoke.
“It hasn’t been long since the summoning started. The number will steadily increase.”
“Who dares to do such an act! Why are we summoned here without reason, and why do we have to die?”
Vera let out a clear laugh at his words. Then she replied with a face filled with mirth.
“Have you ever caught bugs, and made it fight each other?”
“What?”
“You guys are an existence akin to bugs.”
Lee-joonhyuk felt anger surge forth from his belly. However, he couldn’t vent it. Vera was looking at him with cold eyes.
It wasn’t as bad as Atlan, but the energy within Vera’s eyes indicated that he would die if he took a small misstep.
“You are pretty quick on the uptake.”
Lee-joonhyuk spat out a long sigh. He made a sarcastic remark as he looked at Vera.
“Are you also a bug?”
Vera once again laughed at his question.
“You really are fearless. Well, you did ask Atlan for an explanation, so you must be.”
Vera erased every trace of her mirth as she replied.
“People like Atlan and I have come here on a contract. We came here for the benefit to be earned in this place. We aren’t like you guys, who will be used and thrown away.”
Lee-joonhyuk realized it wouldn’t benefit him to offend Vera. Instead, he asked more questions he was curious about.
“I’ve heard I had Awakened to my ability. What does that mean?
“Yes. He did say you had Awakened to your ability. What is your ability? Could you show it to me?”
“I cannot control it.”
Vera lifted her hand in front of her. A fireball formed in her hand.
“Are you sure?”
He was sure the fireball on top of Vera’s hand will be thrown at him. Lee-joonhyuk thought he had to survive no matter what, which caused something to move within his chest. Soon, an ivory colored barrier was created.
When Vera saw this, she threw the fireball.
Boom!
The explosion occurred, but Lee-joonhyuk was unharmed. When the flamed disappeared, Vera’s eye were opened wide. She spoke as she approached him.
“This is a pretty high ranked ability. It is a a barrier resistant to both magic, and physical force.”
While Vera was examining it, the barrier disappeared.
“The duration is only 10 seconds?”
This was an unexpected problem. The barrier could be only maintained for 10 seconds, so it was an ability one should use only when one’s life was in danger.
She had a basic idea how this ability worked.
Vera cupped her chin for a moment, then she asked.
“Could you use it on another person?”
“What?”
It was hard enough to make it when he was trying to stay alive. However, she wanted him to use in on someone else? In the off chance it could work, Lee-joonhyuk waved his hand towards Vera, but there weren’t any reaction.
Vera shrugged her shoulder.
“I guess it would have been weird if a high ranking ability could be used on another person. Also, you haven’t really developed it.”
“What do you mean by ability?”
Vera answered the question with a smile on her face.
“Previously, you asked me why you all were summoned here?”
“Yes.”
“The reason is you guys have latent abilities.”
“Latent abilities?”
Vera walked to edge of the tower, and she spoke as she pointed towards the people lined up below.
“Yes. Like you, they all have abilities. Even if the ability might be useless, they still have it.
Lee-joonhyuk joined Vera’s side, and he looked down. Below, Atlan had walked to the center of the bridge, and there were about 50 nervous people lined up behind him.
On the other side of the bridge, another man showed himself. The man was 3 meters tall with long hair, and he held a sword. He was a huge man, and Atlan only reached the height of his chest.
Vera spoke as she looked at them.
“Of course, amongst all of you, only a handful of people Awakened their ability.”
“What? Until now, there had been over 100 thousand people who had fallen into a coma yet only a handful of people Awakened their abilities?”
“I think it was around 7 people? You are included in this. Any ways, I heard all of the people, who had awakened to their abilities, are dead. They acted rashly.”
Even if one Awakened to one’s ability, it didn’t mean one would automatically survive. Vera sat on the edge of the tower, then she looked at Lee-joonhyuk.
“So the current figure is 7 people per hundred thousand people. Normally, there would only be 1 Awakened being per hundred thousand people. Now you know the reason why you guys were summoned here.” (TLN: higher rate of awakening)
Hundred thousand people had already died, and their souls had perished? Vera smiled when she saw Lee-joonhyuk frown.
“Does it offend you?”
“Isn’t that obvious?”
Vera took a peek at the sky then she spoke.
“Just give it up. Even if you are offended by it, you won’t be able to do anything.”
“You speak as if you know who did this.”
Vera spoke as she rolled her feet on the railing.
“I told you. We are those who came here on a contract.”
“Who is it?”
Vera jumped on top of the railing, then she started to dance.
“It’s a secret. You don’t have the qualification to know yet.”
Lee-joonhyuk thought for a moment before he showed the gold coin in his hand.
“What is this?”
Vera looked at the gold coin, and her eyes became round.
“Where did you get that?”
“It was left over when the person I came here with died.”
Vera answered as she hooked her arm in his.
“This is a present left by the person, who summoned you.”
“This is a present?”
“Yes. A present. This is an item considered to be precious in every dimension. This is the only currency you can use in the Dimensional Battlefield.”
“Will there be an occasion for me to use it?”
Vera spoke as she opened her arms towards the bottom of tower.
“Yes. Don’t you see the gold coins down there?”
Lee-joonhyuk felt resentment towards her. Previously, she treated them like bugs, but now she treated them like gold coins. When Vera turned towards him again, Lee-joonhyuk buried his animosity, and he asked a question.
“What is the meaning of a Minion?”
“Minion? Those who are beneath you. Servant. It roughly means that. Of course, you guys are only at that level.”
As he listened more and more, his anger welled up.
“Then why are you telling me all of this?”
Vera smiled deeply. She jumped, then she stood in front of Lee-joonhyuk. Vera lowered her head to see Lee-joonhyuk eye-to-eye before she poke.
“You have already Awakened your ability. You are someone who climbed up from a Minion to a Novice.”
“What is a Novice?”
“It is a t.i.tle given to those who have Awakened their first ability.”
Lee-joonhyuk’s eyes s.h.i.+ned as he asked.
“That means I might Awaken more abilities?”
“That is unknown. If that is your only latent ability, you would be stuck at Novice. On the other hand, you might climb towards a higher status.”
Lee-joonhyuk thought for a moment before he opened his mouth.
“I guess that doesn’t really matter. Is there any way to return alive to the place I came from?”
“That is the most important question.”
Lee-joonhyuk swallowed dryly as he looked at her. Vera spoke, while smiling.
“You have to victorious in the battlefield. Of course, you have to survive until you do so.”
Already, hundred thousand people had perished in this place. He could already guess how difficult it would be to return alive from this place.
Lee-joonhyuk tightened his grip on the gold coin, and he made a vow.
He’ll definitely survive and return.
Vera approached Lee-joonhyuk, then she whispered into his ear.
“Then please look after me until the day the battle ends.”
