13 – The Hope Of Humans

“The defensive perimeter has been destroyed …”

“It simply doesn’t die! That monster …”

In front of the steel fence, because of the sudden arrival of the crow mutant, the crowd of humans became a complete mess.

The humans that originally wanted to leave the town, that’s why they escaped to this place, yet now they run madly towards the city.

Keep on living, no matter if it was for just one more second, no matter what happened next … just keep on living.

In order to survive, humans wouldn’t hesitate to escape.

The crow mutant didn’t went after the tasty food that was fleeing everywhere from below the fence.

It’s brain was already eroded by the virus and the order instilled by Lu Qiu was … to wreck this steel fence!

“Roaaaaaaaaaar!”

Perhaps because there was a connection among infected, other horrifying howls followed the crow mutant’s roars.

Identical howls sounded from all around the cite …

These were … zombies!

“Help!”

“Don’t come near me!”

The zombies in the city started to rile up, under the guidance of the crow mutant, they found their most delicious food!

“Die … die, ah!” A human soldier fell over the already crushed fence, in front of him was precisely the huge crow mutant.1

The trigger of the a.s.sault rifle has been puled tightly, with bullets spilling on the crow mutant in front of him.

Ordinary bullets simply weren’t capable of penetrating the hard scarlet muscle tissue!

Because of his unbridled shooting, the crow mutant noticed this little creature.

The crow mutant lowered its head, with six insect-like superposition eyes watching the human.

“Oh … oh … uh …” The originally roaring soldier had his mouth suddenly stiffen, a type of emotion called fear showed itself on his face, he fell to the ground, unable to move.

Darkness shrouded the soldier, his heart was equally shrouded in darkness.

A flame illuminated this endless darkness!

The hot flame exploded in front of the soldier.

“Roaaaaaaaar!!” A painful roar! After the crow mutant’s head was blasted by the hot flame, it uttered a painful roar and its huge body retreated.

“Keep on living …” An ice-cold voice, capable of instantly clearing one’s mind, sounded in front of the desperate soldier.

“Eh …” He stared in stupefaction, the action of pulling the trigger and committing suicide never came to be, he looked incredulously as suddenly a man appeared in front him.

A pitch-black uniform fluttered with the wind, with a solemn expression, however, a raging flame was burning on his hand, driving away the darkness in the surroundings.

That represented the military rank of Major in New China Federation!

And the flame on his hand …

“Ma … Major … Su Lei!” The soldiers obviously knew the man, the despair in his heart was shattered by the appearance of this man!

“If you want to avenge your brothers in arms.” Su Lei looked at the soldier on the ground with an oppressive gaze: “Please keep on living.”

The dead … were unable to accomplish anything.

Perhaps death was a kind of relief.

But after death, everything would seize to be. The damage done by the crow mutant above the fence was unable to be undone, the corpses of over hundred people spread around …

The survived soldiers once again raised the guns in their hands.

Because they believed that that man was invincible!

“Roaaaaaaaaaaar!!!”

With the burning sensation coming from its head, the crow mutant roared towards the little human, shook its wings and flew high into the sky.

Su Lei stood above the fence, looked at the zombies hunting down below, and the increasingly chaotic human crowd.

Death was ever present.

And the source of it all was that pitch-black monster in the sky!

The current night … war very dark …

The dark makes people not know what path to take.

Only when the night pa.s.ses, only then would the day arrive …

“The duty of military personnel is to protect the people.”

Su Lei once again ignited the hot flame on his hand as he fixed his gaze on the monster circling in the sky.

“Go fulfill your duty!”

“Roaaaaaaaaaaar!”

The crow mutant dived down toward Su Lei standing on the fence and opened its enormous beak full of teeth.

A human’s build in front of this monster appeared to be so insignificant that it could use its open beak to gobble this human up!

However, there were also differences among humans.

They needed to become stronger in order to keep on living!

“Fall down.” Su Lei snapped his fingers, of the hand with the ignited flame.

A sun appeared and shone in the silent night sky!

Reflected in Su Lei’s pupils was the pitch-black enormous monster being engulfed in the raging flame.

The flame voraciously absorbed the air from all around as it expanded, the churning flame was even more monstrous than the monster as it gradually eroded the crow mutant.

“Roaaaaaaaaaar!”

It’s body being lit on fire made the crow mutant issue frantic roars.

Just as the crow mutant, that was turned into a sun, wanted to charge towards Su Lei.

Su Lei ignited a flame on his hand and clenched tightly, as if clenching a crow.

At this moment, the crow mutant set on fire suddenly exploded.

Flames shot all over, mincemeat and a shower of sparks falling to the ground.

The magnificent fireworks, this surprise attack, brought this play to an end.

It’s over.

That monster was already dead.

Just as Su Lei wanted to go down and rescue the ma.s.ses down below.

“It’s not over yet.”

A strange voice sounded in his ears, making Su Lei abruptly raise his head.

“Roaaaaaaaaaar!”

Left only with the head, the crow mutant relentlessly rushed towards Su Lei.

He once again closed his hand and a fierce explosion sounded.

But this time around, large amounts of pitch-black feathers shot all over!

Those weren’t feathers! Finally a trace of stupefaction was revealed on Su Lei’s cold expression.

He waved his hand and a flame barrier appeared in front of him, the ‘feathers’ shooting all over were burned by the flame.

When the unprotected civilians were pierced by the ‘feathers’, the ‘feathers’ suddenly begun to twist and wiggle, then just like parasites, extend their tentacles and bore into those civilians’ bodies.

The affected humans suddenly began to twitch and then become monsters no different from zombies!

The soldiers high on the wall didn’t notice this horrifying scene.

They only saw the scene of Su Lei easily taking care the horrifying monster.

Yeah, even if there was another such a dreadful monster, what about it?

With Major Su Lei here, there basically wasn’t anything to be feared …

“Hurry up and save those civilians! Tidy up the battlefield!” Su Lei made a prompt decision and issued his orders.

The surviving soldiers along with the support troops that continuously rushed over, they raised their guns and promptly rushed into the chaotic battlefield.

Gunning down all of the invading zombies.

These zombies were very vulnerable.

Humans could kill them by shooting them in their heads.

Therefore, there was basically nothing to fear!

Su Lei stood on the fence, serving as a symbol for human superiority, this majestic posture gave hope to all the survived humans!

But what everyone didn’t notice was that Su Lei was covering his left hand, blood was flowing along the pitch-black uniform and then dripping down.

This powerful Power User was wounded! The source of the wound was at Su Lei’s feet, an already burned into charcoal ‘feather’.

“Tsk!” Lu Qiu was watching the distant burst of flames while sitting on the hospital’s roof.

“It was truly a beautiful fireworks.”

His subordinate level-3 infected was born just a moment ago yet it was already killed by someone. Lu Qiu apparently didn’t felt any resentment nor dissatisfaction.

After all, the crow had tried really hard, yet the enemy was too strong, there was no way to fight him.

Moreover, the crow’s death gave Lu Qiu the opportunity to obtain a very important piece of information.

“Su Lei, one of New China Federation’s strongest Power Users? To think that such creatures as humans could actually make others tremble with fear.”

Lu Qiu stretched himself lazily, appearing somewhat carefree, completely oblivious of the tense mood accompanying the Doomsday …

Because, if he doesn’t break through the fence and unleashes Doomsday on humans, then never mind.

Lu Qiu’s currently strongest method was to bring about the evolution of a level-3 infected through the Blacklight Virus.

Yet it was quickly taken care of by the powerful Major.

There was no suspense.

“Just a Major and he still killed my little pet, there was a price to it though.”

This time’s plan to break through the fence by relying on the infected was a complete failure, yet Lu Qiu felt like it was quite worthwhile.

As for the reason?

“As a human, you’ve evolved to this degree.” Lu Qiu turned around, no longer looking in the direction of the fence, but rather walking downstairs, merging into the darkness, his scarlet pupils flas.h.i.+ng all along: “Are you interested in evolving into a creature stronger than humans? Major Su Lei.”
