Starlight Has No Past

Chapter 26 Part 2

Whether it was out of obligation or affection from the past, Gu Jin tried to comfort her:
“Qiaoqiao…..”

“Get out.” Ye Qiao leapt to her feet, the small suitcase dropped to the ground with a thud
right in between them. “Are you too used to be self-righteous? Do you think others who
can't speak nicely with you are all because they don't know any better? Ah, Gu Jin, I have
a sound mind; there's no room for an outsider to point fingers at my family business. Maybe
you think you're doing this out of kindness, then so be it. Just burn two tall sticks of incense
for me every night to wish me a happy marriage and a successful career. That's all I need,
don't show your face in front of me.”

She picked up her suitcase and walk out of the room. From the corner of her eyes, she saw
Gu Jin's blackened face. She knew she had finally angered him this time. She turned around
with a smile and threw the envelope back at him: “If you really want to do anything for me,
transfer a million RMB to my account. Maybe then I won't be angry anymore.”

On the way back, she deliberately avoided the van for the main actors of the movie. Zhao Mo
saw her coming to her van with a suitcase and considerately helped putting her suitcase into
the trunk.

Ye Qiao wasn't sure about her attentiveness and tried to turn her down: “Don't worry about it.
My a.s.sistant will do it.”

Zhao Mo took it as a gesture that Ye Qiao despised her. She embarra.s.sedly grinned: “It's alright.
It's no trouble at all.”

Ye Qiao then realized that she had been a bit too harsh on Zhao Mo's goodwill, probably
because of her fight with Gu Jin earlier. She turned to smile at Zhao Mo and said: “Thanks.”

Zhao Mo hesitated for a second and asked with a smile: “There are several people in the van
that graduated from the same film school as you. It would be so nice to have Qiao Jie join us.”

Ye Qiao: “Oh, really? What years are they?”

Zhao Mo became more visibly relaxed: “They're all newly graduates. There's one who's a junior.”

Ye Qiao saw a row of young faces after she got on the van.

They were young men and women who were pa.s.sionate about acting. On the way back, they
chatted, played games, and burst into laughters on the desolate road.

Ye Qiao was only two or three years older than them, but she didn't feel so young anymore.

The b.u.mpy drive seemed to have shortened quite a bit from just sitting among these young
actors. A young man carefully mentioned to Ye Qiao while she was getting off the van that he
was her fan and asked for her WeChat. Ye Qiao made the excuse that she was already in the
group for the filming crew. The young man, though disappointed, earnestly said: “s.h.i.+jie, our
acting teacher is the same as yours. The teacher often uses you as an example when teaching us.”

One of his cla.s.smates also chimed in: “Yeah, that's right. Teacher Qin keeps saying that you're
her favorite student.” He sounded like he was looking up to her.

Ye Qiao didn't expect to be such a glamorous person in others' eyes. Compared to reality, she
self-deprecatingly smiled: “Teacher Qin thinks too highly of me.”

When they were back to the airport in the city, each one was flying to different destinations.
Shen Ting kept her company at the gate and dutifully reported on her upcoming schedule:
“The episode that Young Master Zheng asked you to shoot with him for has
a record high rating. Several other variety shows have sent out invitations to our company.
Wei Jie has turned down a few for you already, but she would like you to consider the ones
which are better produced.”

Ye Qiao certainly knew that even with talent and capability, an actress still needed publicity.
If she refused to do some more variety shows while she was popular, it wouldn't do any good
to herself or her company. She gave in: “En, I'll take a look over them when I get back.”

Shen Ting happily continued: “Director w.a.n.g Qingming is preparing to shoot a fantasy
romance movie. It's adapted from a very popular game and has a very solid fan base. The
investment for the movie is also rarely seen in this business. The filming team has contacted
Wei Jie; they would like to have you audition for it.”

Ye Qiao had never agreed to take roles in fast love romances, but today she unusually asked
for details: “To audition for which role?”

Shen Ting was excited: “The game has dual female leads. Director w.a.n.g wants you to try out
for one of the female leads.”

Ye Qiao considered it and was somewhat surprised. It was such a big production with big
names. Even though it had two female leads, they shouldn't have asked her, a relatively new
actress. In addition, the roles she had played so far were quite different from the ones in this
movie. She felt that there was something odd about the whole thing. But it was just an audition,
there was no reason for her to refuse.

Shen Ting was quite satisfied with Ye Qiao's answer and didn't even pay attention when
Ye Qiao told her that she was going to make a phone call.
