Han Changsheng wasn't interested in Yuehua Sect. In fact, all he wanted was to finish the task at hand. He had to drive Lord An Yuan out of the Sect and follow fate as the Overseer wrote it so he could return to Tianning Cult's mountain peak. Therefore, other than the obligated activities, he spent most of his time sleeping in his room or watching sword practice, awaiting the foul immortal lord.

Despite not wanting to get involved with anyone else, he pulled that s.h.i.+di out of a predicament and taught the s.h.i.+mei a lesson on impulse. Now the seeds of trouble were headed his way.

Han Changsheng finished his practice and was returning to his room when Yue Yu-er's voice came from behind, "Da s.h.i.+xiong."

He paused then continued forward.

Footsteps hurried to catch up with him. "Da s.h.i.+xiong! I'm calling you!"

Han Changsheng asked icily, "What?"

Yue Yu-er was soaked in sweat from head to toe. Her chest heaved as she gasped for air. She had obviously put a considerable amount of effort into her practice. She blocked Han Changsheng's path. "Da s.h.i.+xiong, let's have another contest. I've practiced hard the past two days, and I've made great progress!"

Han Changsheng rolled his eyes. If results could be seen in just two days, this Cult Leader wouldn't be forced into such a corner. He wouldn't have to stay away from his cult for so long, and he wouldn't have to be plagued by that pest Lord An Yuan!

He was too lazy to deal with Yue Yu-er, so he continued past her. She rushed forward, not waiting for him to agree, and shouted, "Da s.h.i.+xiong, I'm coming!" The words barely left her mouth when she stabbed at his back!

Han Changsheng heard her come at him from behind, but he didn't even turn his head. The wooden sword slipped by him and he grabbed it, pus.h.i.+ng back to strike her. He threw her to the ground hard and flung the sword backward. She screamed—the sword burrowed into the earth only inches from one of her ears.

Han Changsheng clapped his hands. Now that he had given this little girl a harsh lesson, she ought to be scared off and leave him alone!

The other disciples rushed forward to support her, accusing Han Changsheng, "Da s.h.i.+xiong, how could you be so hard on s.h.i.+mei!"

Nose to the sky, he answered with pride, "You can't make up for your lack of skill by having people twist words and logic. As a child of Yuehua Sect, you have such an ego?!"

Yue Yu-er shoved away the disciples who tried to help her and said impatiently, "Get out of the way! Who wanted your help!"

The disciples withdrew, feeling wronged.

Yue Yu-er stared at Han Changsheng with stars in her eyes. "Da s.h.i.+xiong, you're so powerful! You're better than Er s.h.i.+xiong. Were you going easy on me? Da s.h.i.+xiong, you're too soft!"

"…" Han Changsheng was dumbfounded. h.e.l.lo, did you just suffer a brain injury? Lao zi just threw you to the ground and you're saying lao zi is soft?!

She dusted off her clothes and ran over to him, "Da s.h.i.+xiong, I didn't have time last time you asked me to eat together, but today I'm free."

"…I'm busy!" Han Changsheng s.h.i.+vered and turned around, striding away.

Reluctant to see him go, Yue Yu-er chased after him. "Last time, you said you would take me down the mountain and help me shop for new clothes?"

"Busy!"

"You said you'd take me lotus root picking…"

"Busy!!"

"You said you'd catch a pheasant for me to try…"

"Busy!!!" Was the previous Li Jiulong this much of a fool?! How many times was he rejected by this stupid woman? And he still continued to invite her out?!

"You said…"

Han Changsheng stopped. Unable to tolerate her another minute, he sealed her acupuncture points and told her once she was frozen in place: "Don't bother lao zi anymore! Lao zi isn't interested in you! Appear before lao zi again, and lao zi will see to it you're beaten again!" He raised a fist in promise.

Now that he had spoken so heartlessly, this little girl should have gotten the picture. He abandoned the wooden stake that was Yue Yu-er and left.

A few disciples rushed over and ran circles around her as they released her points. After a while, she was finally free.

"Da s.h.i.+xiong is too much! How could he be so aggressive toward you?" "Precisely, little s.h.i.+mei, don't worry about Da s.h.i.+xiong again." "We'll tell s.h.i.+fu Da s.h.i.+xiong bullied you…"

Yue Yu-er drove them away. She watched Han Changsheng's back as he left and cupped her warm cheeks, whispering, "Da s.h.i.+xiong looks so handsome when he's angry…"

Quite a ways off, Han Changsheng sneezed and rubbed his nose. Unable to make heads or tails of it, he continued.

When he entered his room, he noticed a yellow ball of fluff on his bed. He approached and discovered it was that racc.o.o.n cat.

It jumped off the bed when it noticed he had come back and circled about his leg. Since Han Changsheng had fed it, the cat played with him every day. Every time he saw it, he would recall the days he spent tossing about with the cats Gu Mingxiao raised on the mountain, so he always brought back food.

"Little rotten egg, look what delicious food I brought today." Han Changsheng took out a piece of dried beef from his sleeve and gave it to the cat. It ate it all and rubbed against his palm.

Han Changsheng picked it up and stroked its glossy fur. "Little rotten egg, why are you so ugly?"

Gu Mingxiao raised eighteen different cat breeds, and he gave them all names like "clear as ice and clean as jade," "wise as the snow is bright," "muscle of ice and bones of jade," and so on. Han Changsheng disdained them all and secretly called the cats "smelly egg," "moron," "ugly egg," and so forth. He couldn't stand how much more comfortable Gu Mingxiao was with his cats than with people, or how those cats were so proud that they would even disregard the leader of the cult. Whenever he had the chance, he would sneak into the Violet Jade Hall to brainwash them. "Your mom know you look this ugly?" or "You're so dumb, you can't even catch a mouse, you're going to starve to death, you know?" or "Gu Mingxiao's fattening you up. Oh, I hope we'll have cat hotpot every day!" In the end, he couldn't count how many times Gu Mingxiao had chased him.

In Yuehua Sect, he could bully the stupid creatures however he pleased. Unfortunately, without someone to chase him and threaten to beat his a.s.s, he felt rather lonely.

For a while, little rotten egg lay outstretched in Han Changsheng's arms, belly exposed. He leaned forward and kissed the cat's nose. It stuck out its tongue and licked his lips. Han Changsheng sighed.

The cat jumped out of his arms sometime later and went back to his bed, curiously sniffing a sachet.

He walked over. It was that sachet Liu Xiaoqi had given him. He left it by his bedside without thinking about it much, and these days, he had slept well, and his vitality was strong. Though, he wasn't sure what role the sachet played.

Grabbing the sachet, he lifted it to his nose and sniffed it. The aroma was faint but refres.h.i.+ng.

"Incense? Liu Xiaoqi?" he muttered. Yuehua Sect had no incense making skills, so Liu Xiaoqi must have prepared the spices himself. Though, he didn't learn how to do that here. He was sixteen years old this year and had only been in the Yuehua Sect for the past two years. His incense-making skill had to have developed before he was fourteen.

Han Changsheng was lost in thought when he suddenly heard someone shouting outside, "Er s.h.i.+xiong has returned! He's in the Writing Hall now! Quick, let's go!"

Startled, Han Changsheng threw the sachet to the side.

The Immortal Dog Lord was back!
