The Kingdom of Wei in the mortal world-

Against the blood-red dusk, the bleak sunset full of deep sadness shone on the faces of the people with burning light, making them feel little warm .

The capital of the Kingdom of Wei, a long war-torn city, was immersed in the hard-won peace .

Standing on the top of the city wall, I looked far into the horizon and saw countless souls loiter in the battlefield of yesterday . The mortals coming and going under the city wall couldn’t see them . However, as an Ice Wizard, I could see them repeat the process of death over and over again: being killed, screaming in pain, falling down, getting up, and being killed again .

If I could sing the Requiem Music to release them from purgatory, I at least wouldn’t have been wakened with a start by them in the nightmares every night .

However, I was just an Ice Wizard, an exile who only used the wizardry to escape . I suddenly thought of my mother I had never met . She was the daughter of the Elder of the Elf Clan but died giving birth to me . I couldn’t recall what she looked like . I only heard from the late Xiao Yan that she was the most beautiful one among all the pretty ladies of the Elf Clan . Her voice had to be the nicest . Only the Requiem Music sung by the pure ones of the Elf Clan could bring peace to those souls, but I was not pure, unfortunately .

“You’ve actually met her . ” A voice came to my ears . I turned around and saw Xiao Rang standing behind me with the upright knight’s spear . His shadow became long against the sunset . When the golden light shone on his gray-white armor, a halo was caused, making the scarlet texture engraved on his armor vivid as if a spiritual snake moved . It wasn’t he who said this, for his voice wasn’t that deep .

“It’s not the end of you, but a start,” said the voice again .

“What do you want to tell me, Shadow?”

“You’ll be the King . You’ll be nothing but the King . ” Shadow fell into silence after saying this .

Xiao Rang intently stared at me with his eyes filled with curiosity .

“Xiao Rang, let’s go back . ” When I spoke, I walked downstairs .

He just nodded his head with a smile and walked before me with his spear in his hand .

He always acted like this during the period when we started fleeing on the snowland and came to the mortal world . When we were chased by those killers, he walked behind me to secure me; when we came to the mortal world, he walked before me to stop the unknown dangers ahead of us . Although I was powerful enough to protect myself and him, he still protected me as always like his father .

This kind of loyalty was deep in his bones .

We, who had got accustomed to the life of the snowland, lived under the scorching sun since we came to the mortal world . Unlike the cold winter on the snowland, there was another extreme weather here . The daytime was quite long while the nighttime was relatively short . Basking in the sun, the iron-made weapons in our hands were so hot that they could burn our hands .

As exiles from the snowland, we were little affected by such weather . Out of expectations, I almost had myself killed in the fierce battle with the King of Kingdom Liang a few days ago out of my carelessness . I got a full recovery after over half a month . I had indeed got used to the life where I fought for my life over and over again and then was injured once again .

However, it was the first time that I was wounded by a mortal .

“Do you really think you can run about in spite of your injuries as a divine spirit?” As soon as I stepped down the city wall, a girl showed up at the front corner . She furiously stared at me as if a mother scolded her disobedient child .

When Xiao Rang was about to say something, the girl came over in fury, shoved Xiao away, and stood before me . “If you had been really injury-proof, you wouldn’t have been heavily injured . ” She then held my hand and walked toward the Imperial Palace .

As a divine spirit, how could I be disciplined by her? It was a funny story, though . She was called Jiuyang, the only daughter of the King of Kingdom Wei and was also the one who looked after me these days .

The King of Kingdom Wei had his sons consecutively die on the battlefield during the decade war between him and his brother, so he had only one daughter left in the world .

She had once made a promise in front of all people that she would marry whoever defeated the King of Kingdom Liang .

It turned out that I was the one who she was going to marry .

However, as a divine spirit who wandered in the mortal world, I couldn’t stay in here forever .

Therefore, I thought I was destined to break her promise .

The gloom on the faces of the people brought by the war gradually faded away . Becoming a brother kingdom with Kingdom Liang meant that the war was ceased, and their relatives didn’t need to fight on the battlefield anymore .

However, not all people wore such a smile . All ministers in the Imperial Palace felt extremely nervous . As soon as we stepped in, they all looked at Xiao Rang and me in unison .

Jiuyang loosed my hand and walked up to her father with a flus.h.i.+ng face .

“Divine spirits, please help us,” said the King of Kingdom Wei with uneasiness in his voice while taking the lead to pay tribute to us .

Absent of capriciousness on her face, Jiuyang followed suit .

I and Xiao Rang felt baffling while looking at each other .

The King of Kingdom Wei debriefed us after we were asked to sit on the seats of honor . The other neighboring kingdoms couldn’t tolerate that the two kingdoms became friendly to each other, so they were planning to provoke another new round of war between them . When the King of Kingdom Liang healed his wounds, he was poisoned by a spy and became dying . The spy was caught on the spot and confessed that it was the King of Kingdom Wei who asked him to do so .

Such an excuse was lame, but the crown prince of Kingdom Liang, who was also the eldest prince, gave credence to it and wanted to mount a war again .

All those present pinned their hope on me and Xiao .

We were just pa.s.sers-by, so how could we interfere in this again?

I didn’t make a promise immediately . I just said that I needed more time to consider it .
