The summer rain brought about a cool breeze, dispelling the worries caused by itself.

The heavy rain was destined to be the witness of all the mistakes tonight.

The black Bentley stopped outside of the villa. Butler Lee walked over to Lin Xin'er and said respectfully and fondly, "Miss, a gentleman outside says he is your old friend and wants to see you."

Lin Xin'er shuttled back and forth among the guests who were invited specially for her and said in surprise upon hearing this, "An old friend? What's his name?"

"He refuses to say, but judging from his appearance, I'm sure he's special."

Having followed Lady Lee for many years, Butler Lee was a pretty good judge of men. Therefore, Lin Xin'er was very curious about the man who he said was special.

Jiang Hui who was around Lin Xin'er so as to take good care of her also heard this and said, "It's raining outside. Xin'er, you're in a bad shape and had better stay inside. Butler Lee, you go and ask his name. If he still refuses to say again, let him leave."

Butler Lee didn't raise his head at all upon hearing this, directly neglecting what she said.

Lin Xin'er subconsciously frowned when Jiang Hui said that she was in a bad shape and turned around before walking outside.

Although Jiang Hui acted like the hostess of the Lin family, the entire Lin family didn't treat her as the real one.

She was only considered as someone who could take care of Lin Xin'er.

Consequentially, the senior people like Butler Lee didn't take her seriously at all.

Jiang Hui felt embarra.s.sed with so many guests around.

Having rolled her eyes at Butler Lee's back, she continued acting like the hostess.

The man was invited inside when Lin Xin'er put on a coat.

"h.e.l.lo, I'm Lin Xin'er, and you are?" asked Lin Xin'er in a soft voice with a sweet smile on her face, making her totally integrate into the rainy night.

If she didn't show the mean side, the kindness and gentleness she always pretended to have made her more beautiful.

Even if she was pale, she still looked charming.

"I'm Xue Haolin." Standing two steps away from her, the man stared her up and down with a pair of greedy eyes as if to see her through.

His eyes made Lin Xin'er's heart beat fast.

Tall and strong, the man well-dressed in a black suit looked rather handsome.

He released a mien of indifference, but his eyes were greedy.

Although Lin Xin'er got accustomed to the admiration of others, she still felt excited when such an excellent man looked at her like this.

"Xue Haolin? Sorry, I don't know you," said her gently. She looked up and pinned the scattered hair under her ears. She was more beautiful than flowers.

When Xue Haolin heard this, his greedy eyes were full of invisible loss.

"Do you remember it?" Xue Haolin took out a little red goldfish from a pocket inside his suit and gave it to her. "You gave it to me the other year."

The moment she saw the goldfish, she recalled who he was.

The little goldfish woven by red ropes was Lin Xiaomi's only toy, and Lin Xiaomi always got it in hand.

Each time Lin Xin'er saw it, she tried every means to cut it into pieces. However, Lin Xiaomi always made a new one, which was annoying.

Lin Xiaomi had no playmates at the Lin family because of Lin Xin'er, neither did she at school. However, Lin Xin'er saw Lin Xiaomi save her milk and bring it out.

She followed Lin Xiaomi and found that the latter brought it to a little thin dark boy.

The boy was apparently undernourished. She later learned that as an illegitimate son abandoned by his rich father, the boy was often bullied by the servants in that villa and had no food to eat.

She always wanted to grab everything from Lin Xiaomi, but that boy was dirty, thin, and dark, so she really didn't want to have a relations.h.i.+p with him. However, she followed Lin Xiami each day and witnessed everything between Lin Xiaomi and him.

Thus, she heard that the boy said to Lin Xiaomi in a tender voice that he would marry Lin Xiaomi when he grew up.

"It's you?" Lin Xin'er killed those distracting thoughts and stared at the old goldfish.

Though its color faded away with some bits of fluffs on its edges, it could be concluded that Xue Haolin cherished it very much and thereby kept it well.

It would never occur to anyone that that thin dark boy would become so handsome.

The n.o.ble mien of him was released from inside out and was formed by a successful man who had undergone innumerable experiences.

Even her father didn't possess such a mien.

Having quietly looked at the beautiful girl in front of him, he softened his facial organs when seeing that she recognized him.

"I've promised you that I'll come back to marry you when I'm successful. Now, I'm back and want to honor my promise. Will you marry me?"

The man who was confident in the business circle and had experienced many negotiations said the above words nervously.

Xue Hanlin sneered at himself.

Lin Xin'er looked at him in surprise, for she never thought that he would really come back to marry Lin Xiaomi.

In her eyes, the promise was nothing but a childhood joke. Why could no one treat her like this?

She concealed her jealous in her eyes and got her eyes full of softness when looking up.

"I thought you already forgot it." Lin Xin'er sniffed with tears welling up in her eyes. "How have you been these years? You're so different from that thin dark boy."

As Xue Haolin heard this, his indifference was gone. She still remembered him who was the most humble one at that time.

However, she was his only sunlight in his life at that time.

"If I'm not great, how can I marry you?" said he truthfully.

She served as the sole driving force to stimulate him to work day and night.

Lin Xin'er got her heart beat quickly upon seeing the good-looking man before her. He was different from those who wanted to curry favor with the Lin family.

He was greater than them.

Lin Xin'er had her eyes reddened as if she was moved by him and said nodding her head slowly, "Yes, I do. We haven't met each other for so many years, and we've changed, but I don't know why I still want to marry you when we meet again."

Xue Haolin felt touched and subconsciously came forward to wipe the tears in her eyes.

Having hesitated for an instant, he held her into his arms.

Xue Haolin didn't enter the villa that night, for he wanted to find a day to pay a formal visit instead of acting recklessly.

Lin Xin'er was so excited that she couldn't sleep that night.
