Joanna did not insist. She dragged her luggage into the master bedroom. Ning Tao also entered the second bedroom. He took up his cell phone and replied Bai Jing's message, “Just keep a watchful eye and do not act rashly.”
Bai Jing returned his text message, “When you next message, we will tear through the air like an arrow, coming to you with a mighty army.”
Since when had she become so cheeky?
Ning Tao could not help but smile. After opening his photo file, he magnified a photo he had taken and studied it. He had taken the car license number, but it was driving too fast and the phone's camera had too low a resolution. Even after magnifying it, he could not make out the license number.
The second photo was of the two motorbikers. They were wearing helmets and he could not see their faces. But after magnifying it, he could see golden hairs on one of the riders' arms. Asians usually would not have golden hairs. He could now verify that they were whites.
Ning Tao a.n.a.lyzed quietly in his heart, “Since the battle at the Shennongjia chasm, the mercenaries of the Black Fire Company have been routed. They got nothing. Tang Zixian also took photos and wanted to use the formation to kill me. She, too, had run away, getting nothing. If those guys were really from the Black Fire Company, they seemed to be trying to kidnap Lin Qingyu. But Lin Qingyu is of no use to them at all. Could… their target be me?”
When he thought of that, he had to give a wry smile. He had long been on the hitlist of the Black Fire Company, probably among the top ten targets they would like to eliminate. So he would not find it strange encountering someone trying to do him in.
Ning Tao kept his cell phone and walked out of the room.
Joanna had not emerged from her room, but the doorbell had rung.
Ning Tao went over and opened the door. The black bodyguard who had helped him park G.o.d's Will was there, together with a waiter pus.h.i.+ng a food trolley. On the trolley were many exquisite dishes and a bottle of Suntory whiskey. He was no connoisseur of liquor, but he could guess this bottle was very expensive.
While Ning Tao was looking at the trolley, the black bodyguard handed him G.o.d's Will's key and said, “Sir, your electric motorbike has run out of power. I can't start it. So I left it in the car shed, but you must push it away.”
Ning Tao smiled and replied, “I see. Thank you.”
It was not that G.o.d's Will had no power, but that Ning Tao was the only one who could ride it. No one else could. As for theft, it was even more unlikely. Without his specially refined key, even an electric saw could not saw G.o.d's Will apart.
The waiter said, “Sir, these dishes are Miss Joanna's orders.”
Ning Tao gave way to him.
The waiter entered the room, pus.h.i.+ng the food trolley. Then he set the dishes and the bottle on the dining table. His arrangement was meticulous. Before leaving, he said very politely to Ning Tao, “Please enjoy your meal, sir.”
Ning Tao thanked him. Before the waiter left the room, he went up and summoned the state of smelling to his nose, sniffing every dish carefully.
The food was safe. It had not been poisoned.
“Doctor Ning, are you hungry?” From behind him came Joanna's voice.
Ning Tao turned around and was immediately rather startled.
Joanna was wearing a very close-fitting negligee. Its gossamer white cotton material was glued to her skin very tenderly, showing off her curves. A blonde with green eyes, with a height of 1.85 meters, her waist was so slim and pliant. Complemented it were her long legs. She was showcasing her s.e.xiness so generously in the open, allowing everyone to admire her.
Her only shortcoming was that her b.r.e.a.s.t.s were too small— perhaps even a little smaller than a fat man's chest. So she did not wear a bra. The upper half of her body appeared like a man in a snug white T-s.h.i.+rt. Her b.o.o.bs were very prominent.
Joanna said with a smile, “I think it won't be rude to wear a negligee, since we are staying in the same suite. If you find it inappropriate, I will go back to my room and change.”
Since the girl did not care, it would seem affected if Ning Tao had said otherwise. He too smiled. “There's nothing inappropriate. You are the host. Please do as you like.”
Joanna curled up the corners of her mouth. “You mean it? I don't usually wear clothes in my house. Can take them off now?”
Ning Tao did not know what to say. He had known Western girls to be bold and uninhibited. There were always legions of s.e.xy girls suntanning on the beach and some renowned movie stars would attend social events in a see-through gown. She was actually acting quite normal. But as a man from the East, he did not feel at ease with her obtrusive negligee.
Joanna said with a laugh, “I was joking. Since we are living in the same suite, we can be considered friends. So I will drop that “Doctor” from my address and call you Tao. Would that be fine with you?”
Ning Tao nodded. “Of course.”
Joanna said, “I had come from Gang Island and haven't yet had lunch. Could you have lunch with me? I've ordered the best whiskey in j.a.pan and we can enjoy some.”
Ning Tao readily agreed. He walked to the dining table and helped Joanna pull out her chair. Then, he opened the whiskey, pouring out one-third of its contents into two gla.s.ses. He took one to his nostrils and sniffed. The whiskey was giving off a faint malt scent. Even a non-connoisseur like him could tell it was good liquor. Yet he was not pretending to sample the liquor, but trying to check with his state of smelling whether the liquor had been poisoned. Before Joanna came out, he had already examined the dishes. The whiskey was the only thing he had not checked.
There was no poison in the whiskey as well.
“To our friends.h.i.+p. Cheers.” Joanna also lifted the whiskey gla.s.s.
“A toast to our friends.h.i.+p. Cheers.” Ning Tao clinked his gla.s.s against Joanna's and drank up all the whiskey.
The two of them took their seats at the dining table. Joanna must have been famished. She polished off a beef steak before easing her voracious appet.i.te.
“Tao, I have studied you before,” Joanna suddenly said.
Ning Tao watched her and asked tentatively, “What did you study about me?”
“Your medical skills are undoubtedly the best I have ever seen. Those American hospitals and quacks had p.r.o.nounced a death sentence on my dad, but you managed to cure him in such a short time.”
Ning Tao only smiled and said nothing.
“The only flaw is that my father doesn't remember the whole process. He doesn't even remember you. I was talking to him about his experience that day and he remembered nothing.”
Ning Tao was not in the least surprised. As long as he was involved with them, every patient who had paid their treatment fees at Sky Clinic would have their relevant memories erased.
“Can you tell me how you managed to cure my dad?” Joanna's lovely blue eyes were fixed intently on Ning Tao. The expression in her eyes were full of curiosity and admiration.
Ning Tao said, “There is nothing perfect in this world. I've already said before that he might suffer from amnesia. From your descriptions, Mr. Barnes must have lost only a small portion of his memories. He could count himself lucky.”
Joanna slightly jerked up the corner of her mouth. “We're already friends, staying in the same suite and drinking liquor together. Why can't you let me know the treatment process?”
Ning Tao replied, “Sorry, I have my rules in treating my patients.”
Joanna suddenly grinned, showing her teeth. “Ha! I remember those words. You are a man with a lot of personality. You know what you have given up? Let me tell you: at least five million U.S. dollars. My father's a most generous man. While he was suffering from his illness, he once said that he would pay anyone five million U.S. dollars to cure him.”
Ning Tao picked up a slice of raw salmon, dipped it in soy sauce and put it in his mouth. The salmon tasted fresh and good, but he did not like the wasabi in the soy sauce.
“It doesn't matter if you won't tell me. I understand. I've been searching for you. I asked Mr. Fan Huaying for your contact number and address, but he wouldn't tell me. He wanted you to agree first.”
“Searching for me?” Ning Tao observed her and asked probingly, “Anything the matter?”
Joanna put down her cutlery and placed her hands on her small bosom. “Can you treat me for my small b.r.e.a.s.t.s?”
Ning Tao felt speechless.
Joanna went on, “I don't like silicon and I like something natural. Since the day you cured my father, I have always believed you can cure this congenital flaw of mine.”
“Well…” Ning Tao felt a headache coming. He had cured all sorts of weird illnesses and diseases, but he had never helped a girl augment her b.r.e.a.s.t.s. One's measurements were determined by Heaven and it would not be easy to change them. If a man endowed with a peanut came to him for a banana, he could do nothing, even if he was the Banana King.
“Why, aren't you willing to help me?” Disappointment hovered in Joanna's eyes.
Ning Tao gave a wry smile. “But your shortcoming isn't an illness at all. Perhaps you lack nutrition during adolescence. Or maybe it's because of some defective genes. How can you boost them without silicon?”
“You haven't even tried, so how can you be so sure? All the top hospitals and doctors from the U.S. and Europe could not cure my dad, and yet you did it in lightning speed.” “You have such incredible medical skills. Are you sure you can do nothing?” Joanna's mood was somewhat agitated. “I only want you to try. Did I put you in a quandary?”
“I understand how you feel.”
“No, you don't understand at all.”
Ning Tao shrugged his shoulder. “Very well, I'll try.”
“Thank you!” Joanna instantly gave a radiant smile. “I knew I can talk you into it.”
Ning Tao gave a wry smile. Although he had agreed, it was a big problem turning her flat chest into twin peaks. Even if a flat-chested girl had entered Sky Clinic, the good-evil tripod might not help her augment her b.r.e.a.s.t.s.
Ding dong, ding dong…
The doorbell suddenly rang.
