Lin Qinghua seemed to fall into a deep reverie, his face anguished. "I'm not sure. It's like, like... a cemetery, a very remote cemetery... I dug a grave according to the man's instructions, and then I found what he said, the prescription and the spiritual soil. Then I perfected the project... Later, I tried to find the place, but... I couldn't find it anymore. And then I made two pills of ancestor seeking... I couldn't resist the temptation, and ate one of them. At first, I could be sane for a while, but gradually I had less and less time to be sane..."
Suddenly, Ning Tao struck upon an idea. "Have you seen an old man? He's not tall, thin, and expert in martial arts."
Lin Qinghua shook his head. "I, I don't know... Is he the one who called me anonymously?"
According to Lin Qinghua, Ning Tao denied that the old martial artist was the one who called Lin Qinghua anonymously. That man was probably the boss behind the scenes. How could he possibly carry out the task himself? Ning Tao guessed that the old martial artist had not come to him to remove the Sacred Needle to Nasty Diseases because the man had cured him. Then, the man was highly likely a pract.i.tioner like Chen Pingdao, or a demon!
"I'm dying... Please save me..." Lin Qinghua pleaded. He could not get any worse. As the blood drained away, he came closer and closer to death.
Ning Tao collected his thoughts and said, "I can write a prescription pact to save you, and there will be only one term on your pact—to destroy your demon root yourself. If you can't do it, you'll die."
"I promise! I promise you everything you ask... Please write the prescription right now!" Lin Qinghua didn't want to put it off for a second.
Then Ning Tao took out the prescription and recalled the diagnosis made by the ledger of bamboo slips, and soon wrote out the prescription pact for sins of evil intention for Lin Qinghua.
Frankly speaking, Lin Qinghua was not a wicked man. He bore only one sin—creating a new demon, but this one made him 49 points of sin of evil intention.
Ning Tao handed the prescription pact over to Lin Qinghua and told him coldly, "After you sign it, you must complete the term in the prescription pact. If you agree, sign it with your blood!"
Without hesitation, Lin Qinghua immediately signed the prescription pact with his bleeding finger.
Ning Tao then put a Primary Elixir in Lin Qinghua's mouth.
The black and white air in the good-evil tripod suddenly gushed out, and Lin Qinghua was engulfed in an instant...
Outside the room.
A group of people stared at Ning Tao's door, looking as if eager to see through the door and walls and check what Ning Tao was doing inside.
"It's been over an hour, but I haven't heard anything from inside. What the h.e.l.l is that roving doctor doing in the room?" One of Chen Jun's disciples broke the silence. He had no patience to wait any longer.
"We should open the door and have a look. What if he messes up and Lin Qinghua dies?" Another of Chen Jun's disciples echoed.
"Yes, open the door, the patient is the most important!"
Chen Jun's disciples heckled Jiang Hao, who was guarding at the door, and tried to put pressure on her.
Unresponsive, Jiang Hao stood still by the door. But when they saw the pistol in her hand and her stance like a pine tree, no one dared to offend her.
Chen Jun's disciples only dared to gossip, but they didn't dare to pick on Jiang Hao. As Jiang Hao ignored them, they just talked to themselves and gradually lost interest in talking.
Lin Qingyu seemed nervous and wandered back and forth at the door.
"Will you stop? "Jiang Hao complained. "I'm so dazzled by your wandering back and forth."
Lin Qingyu stopped to look at her watch, her eyes full of worry. "It has been over an hour. Why hasn't a sound come out of the room? Is something wrong?"
"Do you believe in Doctor Ning?" Jiang Hao asked back.
"Of course I do, otherwise why would my brother and I be here?" Lin Qingyu answered without hesitation.
"Now that you believe in him, keep your engagement with him. Three hours will soon pa.s.s. And don't walk up and down in front of me," Jiang Hao said.
Lin Qingyu curled her mouth up in anger, but she didn't argue with Jiang Hao. However, she still paced back and forth in front of Jiang Hao, and more and more frequently.
Jiang Hao was a little speechless, but she didn't say anything more.
Another hour pa.s.sed and the limit of three hours was nearly over, but no one outside heard anything from Ning Tao's room.
Chen Jun looked at his watch and a sneer crossed his lips. "Time is running out, and the room has been quiet all the time. Is the roving doctor asleep with the patient?"
His disciples all burst into laughter.
"What did you say? Watch your mouth!" Lin Qingyu spat.
"Miss Lin, don't say that," Liang Keming uttered. "Chief Chen didn't say anything rude. You don't have to be so sensitive. Time is up, and I think we'd better knock on the door and remind Doctor Ning, or he might really forget we're still waiting for him outside."
Jiang Hao glanced at her multi-function wrist.w.a.tch and stated, "There's 10 seconds left, and I'll knock when the time is up."
Liang Keming made a sour face. Obviously he didn't expect that Jiang Hao would be so devoted to her job that she contradicted him for a roving doctor.
Chen Jun snorted coldly. "I don't know why some people help a quake so much. Are you complicit in some conspiracy? Academician Liang, be careful. Make sure you get this straight later. Don't be fooled."
Liang Keming nodded and agreed, "I'm going to report everything that's going on here."
Just then the door opened and a familiar figure came out of the room.
Ning Tao showed up a few minutes earlier than the three-hour limit.
"Where's my brother, Doctor Ning?" Lin Qingyu immediately walked up to him and asked anxiously.
"Your brother..." Ning Tao hesitated and then shook his head.
"I knew you were a liar!" Chen Jun sneered. "You're going to make an excuse, aren't you?"
Ning Tao looked at Chen Jun and asked, "What are you so excited about?"
"I'm excited? I now suspect you have an ulterior motive!" Chen Jun shouted while pointing to Ning Tao. "What did you do to Lin Qinghua? Are you up to something!"
"Let's go in and see Lin Qinghua," Liang Keming proposed.
Chen Jun's disciples couldn't wait and rushed to the door immediately.
Just then another man appeared at the door and staggered out.
All eyes were on him, and then all looked startled.
Lin Qinghua walked out slowly. His hospital gown was torn and tattered and stained with blood. Anyway, he didn't look like a patient who had just been treated, but looked like an injured man who had been badly beaten up.
In fact, it didn't take Ning Tao three hours to cure Lin Qinghua. They only came out after all this time because Ning Tao cleaned up the blood on Lin Qinghua. Otherwise, he would look scary. Of course, he not only cleaned up Lin Qinghua's blood, but also talked a lot with Lin Qinghua about ancestor seeking during cleaning.
"Qinghua!" Lin Qingyu was so excited that she rushed to Lin Qinghua and plunged into his arms.
How could Lin Qinghua's body take such a hug? He went limp and fell to the ground.
Ning Tao hurriedly reached out his hand to steady Lin Qinghua and reminded, "Calm down, Miss Lin. Your brother is still very weak."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." Lin Qingyu then realized what she had done and hurriedly let go of Lin Qinghua.
"It's not that Lin Qinghua is weak, it's that you didn't cure him," quipped Chen Jun. "He's just out of anesthesia and walking on his own."
Ning Tao ignored him without even looking at him.
Chen Jun's words and Ning Tao's hesitation just now caused Lin Qingyu to worry about Lin Qinghua. She got nervous again and tentatively asked, "Qinghua, how are you feeling?"
Lin Qinghua didn't respond.
Chen Jun gave a cold smile. "You don't have to ask, Miss Lin. The roving doctor who you believe in isn't able to cure your brother. Your brother is just out of anesthesia now."
Liang Keming gave a sigh and remarked, "Looks like we'll have to take the patient back to Beidu."
As these words were spoken, Lin Qinghua suddenly began, "I'm not going anywhere. I'm all right now. I was just wondering how I could express my grat.i.tude to Doctor Ning, but I couldn't think of a way to repay him for saving my life."
He was articulate and logical, not at all like a man with delusions.
These words stunned Liang Keming, Chen Jun, and his disciples. They didn't want to believe that it took a roving doctor three hours to cure a seriously-ill patient without any medical equipment while they didn't even find the cause in three days and nights!
Lin Qinghua turned to Ning Tao and made a deep bow. "Doctor Ning, thanks is far from enough to express my grat.i.tude, but I still want to say, thank you."
"You're welcome. It's a doctor's duty to save people," Ning Tao stated lightly.
Lin Qingyu's face broke a charming smile, but tears welled up in her black eyes. These were tears of excitement and joy. Her brother came back.
"Wait!" cried Chen Jun. "That's impossible. You must have taught him to say that!"
Ning Tao just smiled.
"Are you stupid?" Lin Qinghua snapped. "It is the absolute truth that Doctor Ning has cured me. What are you trying to prove? You can prove nothing. You can only prove how jealous and ugly you are!"
"You..." Chen Jun mouthed wordlessly and turned a slightly deeper shade of puce out of anger.
Ning Tao strode toward the nursing home gate. Lin Qinghua was cured, and it was time for him to get out of here. People like Chen Jun and Liang Keming were just pa.s.sing through and nothing to him, so he didn't want to waste time with them.
"Qinghua, let's go," Lin Qingyu said and couldn't wait to catch up with Ning Tao.
Lin Qinghua smiled and said, "Okay, let's get something delicious to eat. I really want hot pot. I almost forget its taste."
"All right, let's invite Doctor Ning to go with us," Lin Qingyu said with a smile as she helped Lin Qinghua walk.
"Lin Qinghua, you can't leave." Liang Keming was in the way of the brother and sister.
"Why can't I leave?" Lin Qinghua asked in a loud voice, which seemed to remind Ning Tao in front of him.
Ning Tao didn't look back. All he could do was cure Lin Qinghua's demon disease. As for other things, he couldn't help them even if he wanted to.
"You have to come with me to Beidu, to the academy of sciences," Liang Keming stressed.
"I'm not going anywhere!" Lin Qinghua refused directly.
"Why are you stopping us? My brother is not a criminal!" exploded Lin Qingyu.
"He can't leave under any circ.u.mstances!" Liang Keming insisted on not making way.
At this moment, Jiang Hao walked up to them and stated, "The supervisor doesn't mean to arrest Lin Qinghua. He can leave here. You have no right to stop him."
"You!" Liang Keming pointed at Jiang Hao and seemed to curse, but he swallowed back the words.
Lin Qingyu took the opportunity to walk past Liang Keming supporting Lin Qinghua with her arm.
"Lin Qinghua is one of the best technologists of our country, just like you," Jiang Hao added. "Besides, he is the creator of the ancestor seeking. You'd better not offend him before the superior gives a clear order, or you will get into trouble."
Liang Keming looked grim, but before he could make a decision, Jiang Hao also went after Ning Tao and left.
