It took Ning Tao most of the day to tidy up the Sky Clinic. The jumble of bottles and cans were all arranged in good order. The blood graffiti written by Chen Pingdao on the right wall was also cleaned without leaving a trace.
During the cleaning process, Ning Tao had attempted to open the doors on the walls on both sides, but he failed. The clinic's ledger gave him a hint that it took 5,000 points of the merits of good intention and sins of evil intention to open a door. In total, opening two doors would cost 10,000 points, which was more than four years' rent for the clinic. Ning Tao came to the conclusion that this was not the Sky Clinic at all, but a baleful clinic!
"No wonder Chen Pingdao has never entered the two stores. How could he have enough good and bad values to open the two doors when the clinic is close to bankruptcy under his management?" Ning Tao thought with a sigh.
After cleaning up, Ning Tao started to study the stuff in the clinic and the nameless medical book that Chen Pingdao gave him. He had to earn 200 good and evil values for this month's rents when he had only five Primary Elixirs, which did not allow him to fail even once. So he had to know the clinic and everything about it before he could actually open it. Only in this way could he make it.
Ning Tao gradually immersed himself in the nameless book. He didn't leave until he felt hungry. It was already dark.
Under the cover of night, Shan City was ablaze with light, looking more prosperous than it in the daytime.
Ning Tao grabbed a bite at a restaurant on the street and headed for school. He had almost forgotten what had happened in the morning when he had spent the day in the clinic and studying the nameless medical books. Now the bad things came back to him. He was worried, but on second thought he was relieved. Was he afraid of being expelled from school when he had only 29 days left? He did not regret hitting Ma Fuquan. Even if it started all over again, he would still do the same thing!
The streets were bustling with people.
A young woman with a suitcase was coming toward Ning Tao. She wore a white T-s.h.i.+rt with light blue denim shorts and a pair of New Balance sneakers. She had short hair, about 1.75 meters tall, with slim waist and long legs, exuding an attractive aura of youth. But she was not a delicate and lovable woman. She walked like a soldier with her back straight and her head held high. Besides, there had no any softness but a little fierce in her eyes.
There weren't many women like her, so Ning Tao couldn't help giving her a second look.
The short-haired woman came to an abrupt halt and gave a slight shake. In the s.p.a.ce of a second or two, her normal face suddenly turned pale and lost its color.
Ning Tao immediately got alert and focused his will on his eyebrows according to the way he just learned from that nameless medical book. In a flash, a tingling sensation spread from the depths of the middle of his brow, and his eyes and nose seemed to "woke up", as thousands of imperceptible odors flooded into his nostrils. In the nameless medical book, the technique of smelling meant a.n.a.lyzing the smell of things, while it was hearing in traditional Chinese medicine. Chen Pingdao's little Nirvana Elixir and the cultivation that he gave Ning Tao actually awakened his ability to smell, so he could use it after he mastered the method.
At the same time, Ning Tao saw the colorful aura of the short-haired woman, with different colors corresponding to different body parts. This was the technique of looking in the nameless medical book— making a diagnosis by observing the patient's aura.
Just then the short-haired woman suddenly stumbled and fell to the ground.
Ning Tao rushed up to her and threw his arms around her waist to hold her up. He had just gained an idea of the young woman's condition, by means of looking and smelling.
However, before he could speak, the short-haired woman instantly raised her hand and tried to hit him.
Ning Tao grabbed her wrist and said, "Your blood-sugar level is dangerously low. Do not move! You have to reduce the pressure on your heart. And have been badly hurt and are not yet well enough."
A flash of astonishment came into the short-haired woman's eyes.
This was Ning Tao's diagnosis by looking and smelling. Not only did Ning Tao know her low blood-sugar level, but also knew that she had a gunshot wound! He was surprised, too, but he did not show it on his face. At the moment, he had fully gotten into the character of a doctor. No matter who was sick, in his eyes, they had only one ident.i.ty— the patient.
Ning Tao put his arm around the woman's waist and helped her to a chair by the side of the road. "You sit here for a while, and I'll get you something high in sugar." He said.
The short-haired woman bobbed her head at Ning Tao.
"Remember, don't move. I'll be back soon," Ning Tao added, running quickly to a supermarket down the street.
A few minutes later, Ning Tao returned and handed the short-haired woman a steaming cup of fragrant milk tea and two pieces of chocolate.
"Thank you." The short-haired woman said, sounding a little tired. After that, she began to drink the milk tea and eat chocolate. After a few sips of hot milk tea, her spirits had obviously been lifted a lot.
"How are you feeling? Do you want me to call an ambulance for you?" Ning Tao asked solicitously.
The short-haired woman shook her head and replied, "No, I'm feeling better now. Sorry for what I... I didn't know you were helping me."
Ning Tao gave her a smile and said, "Never mind."
"By the way, how did you know I had hypoglycemia and was badly hurt?" The short-haired woman inquired while staring straight at Ning Tao.
"I'm a doctor." Ning Tao answered briefly. "Well, if you're okay, I have to go. From now on, you need a regular schedule and diet."
"What's your name?" Asked the short-haired woman.
Ning Tao just looked back at her and smiled without telling her his name. He didn't want to be a.s.sociated with a woman with a gunshot wound.
There was something strange in the short-haired woman's eyes as she looked at Ning Tao's back.
Back at school, Ning Tao insinuated to his cla.s.smate about what he was worried about, and learned that n.o.body in the school knew that he hit Ma Fuquan, or even that his place was occupied by Yang Hai.
He figured it out after pondering it for a while. Ma Fuquan was bribed by Yang Hai before he gave his place to Yang Hai, which must not be known to others. If Ma Fuquan told the school about Ning Tao beating him, or called the police, the bribery would come to light.
"Well, I'll just pretend it didn't happen." Ning Tao told himself and his mood lightened. Then he went to the laboratory building. He was going to pack up and move to the clinic.
Ring, ring, ring...
His cell phone rang suddenly.
Ning Tao took out his phone, looked at the caller id, and answered, "Hi, Chopper, it's Ning Tao. What's up? Go ahead."
Chopper was the nickname of Ge Ming, Ning Tao's childhood friend. He dropped out of high school and chopped vegetables in the canteen of a company. Ning Tao didn't know who gave Ge Ming the nickname. As many people called him Chopper, so did Ning Tao. They lived in the same common community, and were on so good terms that they got together every holiday.
"Tao, have you been in any trouble?" Ge Ming's voice came over the phone, sounding nervous and concerned.
Ning Tao was puzzled and surprised at what Ge Ming's question. "How did... Why do you ask?"
"When I came home from work today, I saw a big crowd knocking on your door and asking for your whereabouts," Ge Ming replied. "A guy in a BMW asked me if I'd seen you, and I said no. He also asked me if I knew where you used to go, and I said I didn't."
Ning Tao figured out who the guy in the BMW was. It was Yang Hai.
"Tao, say something. I'm worried about you. Where are you now?"
"Chopper, you stay out of this. I'm fine." Ning Tao comforted him.
"Seriously?"
"Yes, I mean it. The people you talked about were probably the ones who wants to me to see a patient" Ning Tao lied.
"All right, let me tell you something interesting."
"What's it?"
"My boss had a stroke in the office today, and someone even called an ambulance. Oh, it's the ambulance of the Affiliated Hospital of Shan City Medical University." Ge Ming began to recount the story of his boss with great interest. "Later, his wife came to the company with her lawyer and they said she wanted my boss to transfer the company to her. She is my boss' second wife. Many colleagues are saying that this is his comeuppance. My boss has only one daughter, whom he fathered with his ex-wife. His daughter lives in another city, she should come here soon. I think there will be a s.h.i.+t battle over the estate of a powerful family in the company tomorrow. Haha!"
Ning Tao wasn't interested in it at all. "That is the business of a wealthy family. What does it have to do with ordinary people like us..." Before he could finish the sentence, something occurred to him. Then he said, "Oh, Chopper, you just said that someone in your company said that your boss' stroke was his comeuppance. What does that mean?"
"My boss started out in real estate. He is a black-hearted businessman who has forcibly demolished many houses. I heard that he once disabled a man in a forced demolition. After making a fortune, he detested his ex-wife, thinking she was not beautiful. Then he transferred his property before forcing his ex-wife to divorce him. Isn't it his comeuppance for all the bad things he's done?"
"Haha, I've got an idea!" Ning Tao laughed, quite baffling.
"What are you talking about?"
"Chopper, help me find out where your boss' daughter is going to live. We'll meet in Liberating Square and you take me to your boss' daughter." Ning Tao said.
"Take you to my boss' daughter?" Ge Ming asked with wonder and curiosity in his voice. "Tao, what are you going to do?"
"Don't ask. Take me to her. It's important to me." Said Ning Tao.
"Alright, I'll make some inquiries. See you in Liberating Square." Ge Ming then hung up the phone.
Ning Tao turned and headed for the school gate, not even having time to pick up his things.
"Ning Tao!" A voice behind him suddenly said, "Stop!"
