Chapter 1 “The Reveal”

Jiangbei Province, Zhishui City, Third Middle School.

At a secluded back corner of one of the cla.s.srooms–––

“Ye Lingchen, wake up…”

With a slight shake of his body, Lingchen opened his eyes in confusion.

As he opened his eyes, a fatty’s slightly greasy face came into view. Lingchen’s eyes would also cautiously sweep the platform at the front part of the cla.s.sroom every now and then.

“Why’d you suddenly fall asleep? Li Xiuluo already looked over here several times, I feel like he’s about to lash out in anger at any time.” Fatty Zhang said with lingering fear in his voice.

“I don’t really know… I just suddenly felt really sleepy.”

Ye Lingchen then shook his head a few times. He vaguely remembered that, right before he fell asleep, he heard a sound in his head similar to a system booting up.

As he slowly moved his eyes upwards, he eventually met with a glare from Li Xiuluo. Ye Lingchen immediately sat properly in all seriousness, trying to look as indifferent as possible.

Li Xiuluo, originally known as Li Hongkai, is Ye Lingchen’s cla.s.s adviser, as well as his mathematics teacher. Li Xiuluo is also the head instructor of the whole school. Due to becoming known to be incomparably strict, even frequently looking for the parents of students, he got his nickname Li Xiuluo. (Note: the characters used for Xiuluo in the teacher’s name are 修 and 罗 which literally respectively mean to mend or to study and to catch or to collect)

To actually fall asleep during Li Xiuluo’s cla.s.s?

Ye Lingchen got cold sweat just thinking about it.

‘Eh?’

The next moment, Lingchen was stunned as several lines suddenly appeared in his mind.

‘Receive high school teacher Li Hongkai’s guidance, mathematics proficiency +1.’

‘Receive high school teacher Li Hongkai’s guidance, mathematics proficiency +1.’

‘Receive high school teacher Li Hongkai’s guidance, mathematics proficiency +1.’

As Li Hongkai continued the lecture, lines upon lines of words continued to appear in Lingchen’s mind.

‘What’s happening?’

Ye Lingchen’s heart jumped. He stopped looking towards the platform. He lowered his head, picked up his math textbook, and started to pretend to read it.

‘Self-study a math textbook, mathematics proficiency +1.’

‘Self-study a math textbook, mathematics proficiency +1.’

‘WTF!!!’

Ye Lingchen’s hands quivered, almost having resulted in the math textbook flying off.

‘Calm down! Calm down…’

Ye Lingchen did his best to calm down. Taking a deep breath, he then went and focused his all his attention on his mind.

As he intently focused on his mind, a panel came into view. The panel was divided into several small boxes which seemed like icons, similar to those in stats panels in a lot of RPG games. Currently, there were quite a number of icons which were already lit up.

‘Chinese: 20% proficiency.’

‘English: 5% proficiency.’

‘Mathematics: 40% proficiency.’

‘Physics: 10% proficiency.’

There were actually a lot of icons which were lit up. There seemingly being more than 20 icons, with riding a bicycle even being one of them. However, other than mathematics, none of the icons had a proficiency greater than 30%.

As for the remaining greater number of icons which were pretty dim, those should mean that those skills have yet to be unlocked or the proficiency is too low to even matter.

Lingchen exhaled a breath of air, unknowing of how stupid he looked and of how trashy he actually was.

‘Could there really be a system that can help boost learning speed?’

Ye Lingchen looked at his steadily growing mathematics proficiency with a face flushed with excitement. In just a short period of time, his mathematics proficiency had already shot up to 60%. In his mind, previously vague and confusing mathematical knowledge had suddenly become extremely clear.

He couldn’t wait to see if the proficiency was really the same as he was thinking it was.

Looking around, he saw Fatty Zhang looking in the direction of the platform with a confused face. The Fatty, nodding every now and then, seemingly having gained sudden enlightenment.

Ye Lingchen asked, “Fatty Zhang, do you understand what he’s saying?”

Fatty Zhang looking a little hesitant, said, “Like… I can understand some of the stuff he’s saying.”

“It’s alright, don’t worry. Just tell me which ones you don’t understand, I can teach it to you,” said Ye Lingchen confidently.

“You teach me?” Fatty was stunned and thought for a moment. Unsure what to really say, he said, “If my memory isn’t failing me, aren’t you like ranked first from the bottom in terms of the rankings in math? As for me, aren’t I at least ranked second from the bottom?”

“Yeah… but no.” Ye Lingchen felt it necessary for him to rid himself of his horrible image. “Alright, look, are you sure that all your choices are correct?”

Fatty Zhang murmured, “No, not really.” Occasionally, he would try to check if his answers were correct using different methods of proving, but without exception, none of his answers worked.

Ye Lingchen continued, “Cheating can help you get a few of those questions right. But, look at me, never even in the least concerned about getting the right answers, do you think even cheating would result in the results I’ve gotten?”

“To get everything wrong, that would… that would indeed be something hard to accomplish.” From Fatty Zhang’s many years of experience in cheating, looking at the situation once again. Fatty then asked, “Were you intentionally getting the answers wrong so that you could get zero points?”

Ye Lingchen nodded his head, “Exactly!”

Fatty held quite a bit of doubt, but didn’t say anything nonetheless. At that same moment, a piercing cold gaze could be felt coming from the platform up front, immediately making the fatty s.h.i.+ver in fear.

“Ye Lingchen, Fatty, if you two don’t plan on listening in my cla.s.s, then just get the h.e.l.l out of here!” Li Xiuluo’s roar made the entire cla.s.s fall into extreme silence.

However, just as everyone was preparing to watch the scene unfold, Ye Lingchen slowly stood up as Fatty looked at him with a complicated and wors.h.i.+pful gaze…

“Teacher Li, I was merely teaching Zhang Hao how to answer the question.”

“Is your brain even working properly? You’re ranked last, while Fatty is ranked 2nd from the bottom, for you to actually dare to teach and for him to actually listen, has the world gone mad?!”

Faced with everyone’s attention, Ye Lingchen’s eyes were filled with unhappiness. For him, a king, to actually end up being showed contempt, straightening his wrinkled clothes, he then said: “I originally came here with the intention of getting along with everyone as someone who would be seen by others as trash. Yet, in exchange, the only thing I received was alienation and contempt, I shall no longer keep pretending, I am a G.o.d in terms of learning, I shall show you who I truly am!”

Whoa––

The whole cla.s.sroom suddenly filled up with noise.

“d.a.m.n, Ye Lingchen actually dared to say that he’s a G.o.d of learning?!”

“Well, the Gaokao is indeed approaching. Under such great pressure, a person could possibly go mad.”

(Note: Gaokao is an examination that is taken by Chinese students in their third and final year of high school from June 7 to June 8 or 9. It is also the lone criterion for admission into Chinese universities. So, it’s quite an important test.”

“The world has gone so mad that even Ye Lingchen claims to be a G.o.d of learning!”

“Since Ye Lingchen seems to have finally shown who he truly is, it seems that I shouldn’t conceal it any further. I’m actually a billionaire, I will no longer hide who I truly am.”

Bang Bang Bang! Li Xiuluo knocked on the table, the whole cla.s.sroom turning quiet in an instant as if the calm before the storm.

“G.o.d of learning?” Li Xiuluo burst into laughter at Ye Lingchen’s big words. He then turned around and began to write on the blackboard.

Although he didn’t really talk much, under the piercing cold atmosphere, everyone still looked at Ye Lingchen with some sympathy.

Thirty seconds later, Li Xiuluo stopped writing and an applied mathematics problem was left on the board.

“If you come over to this platform and solve this problem correctly, I will allow you to continue not listening in my cla.s.s.” Li Xiuluo while coldly looking at Ye Lingchen said, “but, if you fail to solve it, get your parent over so that I can talk to them!”

“Hey! Isn’t that the last question from that 3rd mock exam?” Some students whispered as they looked at the problem on the board.

“Yea, it’s the same exact one. The 3rd mock exam is known to be the most difficult one. I heard that n.o.body was able to get the correct answer for that last math problem.”

“Ye Lingchen seriously just had to provoke Li Xiuluo. Tsk, well, he wouldn’t have been in trouble if he wasn’t asking for it.”

Even with the discussions which he could hear around him, Ye Lingchen boldly stood up from his seat and started walking towards the platform.

His entire being unexpectedly exuding some sort of self-confidence, everyone couldn’t help but keep their mouths shut.

As he looked at the blackboard, Ye Lingchen couldn’t help but shake his head.

Seeing him shake his head, Li Xiuluo’s eyes turned even colder. He said, “If you can’t do it, then just say it, don’t waste everyone’s time.”

Ye Lingchen placed one hand at his back while picking up white chalk with his other. His back like a mountain, profound and unfathomable, he muttered under his breath: “Are you insulting me with such a simple problem?”

Just as Li Xiuluo was about to burst out in anger, Ye Lingchen had already begun writing on the blackboard.
