I was shocked as I heard the words town; society still had to be running for a town to be working!

I quickly focused on the conversation not wanting to miss a moment. The group had troubled looks on their faces as one of them finally spoke up.

"I'm not sure Jake. I think we could kill a few more zombies"

"Yeah I think we should get more points and gear"

"Yeah the more we get, the better off we'll be."

"We can even stay in the town longer, if we have more points."

The group started to chat back and their voices seemed slightly awkward as they made their case. As their voices over lapped in squabble the leader, Jake's, face became black.

"You guys are just afraid to go back!"

His shout echoed out and shut up the group before they could continue. Jake was huffing up and down pulling in gulps of air. He had let loose a load shout to shut them up.

After regaining his calm he finally started talking again.

"I'm sorry guys. But you know I'm right."

The group became down trodden as the guilt was easily seen on their faces.

What is he talking about?

I had no clue where this conversation was coming from or where it was going. It didn't make sense to me why they wouldn't want to go back to the town. The rest of the group except Jake really didn't want to go back.

Did something happen?

I would have to keep listening.

"We all know that that terrifying gold light came from the direction of the town, but that doesn't mean for sure that something happened to it."

Jake finally continued to talk and I started to get the idea on what they were afraid of.

So the gold light is most likely to have come from the 'town' they had come from. The woman at the back who held the staff finally talked up again with a high pitched voice, a slight tinge of fear hidden beneath it.

"That's not all Jake. You remember how we almost got killed last time we went there. The local gang boss has completely taken over the surroundings of the town."

The only other woman in the group, who was also one of the sword wielders, also spoke up.

"Yeah I heard a rumor that he has been abducting some of the woman in the town for his own pleasure. If we didn't get to the center point quickly and get out before they got there, we might not have made it out."

The fear in her eyes was palpable as she thought about the gang boss. The idea of someone taking over such a safe place wasn't a surprise to me, and to abuse his power to attack women, made murderous thoughts pop into my head.

What a despicable person, to abuse power at such a time, it's the end of the b.l.o.o.d.y world for Christ sake, and there are zombies roaming around everywhere.

I lightly gripped my hand, before I released the tension; it wasn't a problem I should concern myself with.

I don't know the full picture of what's happening, and even though I don't like what his doing, I don't need to get involved. If he were to attack me or Ella though, that's a completely different subject. If he were to do something like that, then I would gut him with no hesitation.

There is no reason for me to trouble myself with something that could hurt me or Ella; I can't help every person that has a problem in the world. I can't look after every child that has lost a parent. I could barely look after my own family.

Focusing back on the group who had turned quiet, Jake sighed, it was a very defeated sigh that showed his helplessness in the situation. He knew he couldn't relieve their fears. I would have to guess that this gang boss had quite a few underlings and thugs working for him.

He gave the woman a sad look before his eyes gleamed with some resolution.

"I heard those rumors to. But all of us know we have to go back. It's the only place that is safe at night, all we have to do is get into the town and pay the fee and they won't be able to hurt us. There is no fighting in the town, remember what happened when someone tried to attack."

With these words the anxious looks on the face of the women turned better, but still had that tinge of fear. A male from the right spoke up at this point.

"Yes but the question is, can we actually make it in to the town. Once that guy took over the surroundings he has been watching the entrances like a shark. If people don't give them a share of their spoils, or even their women, they might attack you outside the barrier."

"And if we even get in; once we leave they will attack us."

The last guy finally got into the conversation and they started trying to find a way that this could work.

"We could leave the woman outside and out of sight."

"But that would mean we couldn't stay the night in town. Without the protection, we would be goners."

"With our cla.s.ses we should be able to defeat quite a few of them, and we can hold up in a building"

"I don't know, at night we won't be able to see as well. We could get ambushed by them."

"Yeah but if we don't get back to trade for better gear, we'll soon get wiped out."

"If we can get to Level 10 before those guys do, we can upgrade our cla.s.ses and become even stronger. Where else are we supposed to find a town?"

The arguing became louder and louder as they started bickering back and forth.

Honestly they had some good ideas and strategies that could get them into the town, and possible out without much ha.s.sle. But the women were determined that if they stayed out of the town for the night they would die.

But at the same time, if they did go into the town, they might get trapped inside. Or worse be taken. From their talk I could determine that this gang boss was a terrifying fellow. I couldn't tell the amount of subordinates he had, and I don't know if me and Ella could take them all.

Not that I could slip by with Ella, if I was to go and visit this town, I would have to leave Ella outside by herself. Not that I think she couldn't handle herself, I just wasn't confident that something might not go wrong.

Also from the talk I could finally figure out how they got all the gear and weapons. It seemed that the town was a place where they could acquire cla.s.ses and necessities. And they were d.a.m.n sure that zombies wouldn't be able to harm them while inside.

What makes them so confident?
