I stared at the Inferior being in front of me, as my thoughts drifted back to the first time Father was hurt. My hatred towards these creatures was unimaginable, and fueled me to kill it as fast as I could.

I could feel my head cool as all my senses focused on the insects. My aura gushed out to lock it down while I dashed forwards. It was only 40 meters from where we were and I would be able to kill it by getting closer.

I readied the bow in my hand and pointed the sharp head in its direction, the information that was in my head was working overtime to help me aim and fire at the beast. It was better than usual as I was sure at this moment that I would be able to hit and kill it at 30 meters, instead of my usual 20.

Honestly my hate for these things was so much I wouldn't have minded to go up close and rip it apart with my bare hands. I kept thinking about how father looked, with his pale face and unresponsive state, it fueled my anger even more.

There were 2 in front of us, one bigger than the other. I wanted to take out the big one first. It was best to use the arrow and not indulge in my emotions; there would be more meat to eat later on. Father had been teaching me the importance of being effective when I kill.

If I were to rip them apart, I couldn't share as much with father. So I swallowed the impulse to use my bare hands and let loose an arrow.

"Ella Wait!"

Father screamed out from behind me as I rushed forwards but I had already let loose the arrow, and I didn't want them anywhere near him. I didn't usually disobey Father, but this time I would take them out before they could get close to him.

I would not let them, hurt father!

The arrow flew true from over 30 meters and embedded itself into the eye of the insect. It howled in pain as the other thing, bared its teeth in rage at me. I smiled at its anger and prepared another arrow to kill it.

The small thing though, didn't do what I was expecting, instead of rus.h.i.+ng forwards, it looked towards the larger one that was still howling and then turned in the other direction.

It was trying to escape!

My eyes flickered as I realized that the large one was telling it to run. I sent another arrow towards it and accurately struck its throat, stopping it from howling. I gave chase to the small one, but I couldn't get it into my range. I was faster than it, but it would take a while to catch it.

'Ella Stop!!!'

This time Fathers voice came loud and clear through my mind and I frowned stopping my advance.

'We have to kill it'

I was sure that my malice towards them was leaking and father knew how much I wanted to kill them. Why wouldn't he let me chase that thing down and annihilate it!?

I turned back to look at father and he was just behind me to the side. I had already pa.s.sed the downed large one, and father was now, kneeling before it with a serious look. I could tell he wasn't happy about something, but couldn't tell what. It couldn't be because I had disobeyed him?

His eyes flashed as he looked at the insect and his frown became even worse, the fist that wasn't gripping his sword clenched and turned white.

"d.a.m.n!"

Father shouted out before quickly picking up the glowing orb that was dropped. Not sparing the meat a look, he quickly stood back up and shouted towards me.

"Ella we are leaving! Now!"

I frowned as I looked in the direction of the fleeing insect, before turning back and moving towards him. He didn't say anything as he rushed towards the portable meal and gripped onto her hand. He then started to run in the west ward direction.

What was going on?

I couldn't help but think something was wrong, as I started to feel out his feelings, something wasn't right.

"Let's go!"

That's all he said as we started to rush away.

It was only a short time later that I heard something coming from behind us.

"AWOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

The sound continued on for a long time before finally finis.h.i.+ng. I frowned at the sound and father also picked up his speed. But that wasn't the end as even more sound came from behind us.

"AWOOOOO!!"

"AWOOOOOO!!!"

"AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

The sound was almost unending as it continued on for a few minutes straight, father's face started to turn pale and I could feel his emotions stirring.

The danger perception that I didn't usually appear kicked in and I started to feel something making its way towards us.

After another 5 minutes of running another howl went out. But this time it was filled with more grief.

"AWWWWWOOOOOO!"

I frowned as I heard the noise, there was something different about that sound than the ones before, it sounded like a few howls combined together instead of single voice.

Up ahead I heard the portable meal talk to Father and tried to understand what was happening. The meals face was pale, and she was being dragged along by Father. She should be grateful that he would even spend the time to take her along, she was just a meal. But I could tell from her expression, that she was angry.

I wondered why Father wanted to keep it.

"W-w-what's happening?"

Father was going full pelt now as he ran dragging her along and was annoyed to be distracted at this moment. Even though he was, and I could feel what he was thinking, he still explained to her. He was so nice. He only said two words though and the meal seemed to understand.

"Pack Mentality."

His face was grim as he uttered the words and continued to run; the meals face became even paler.

"Does that mean, what I think it means?"

Father just nodded.

I was still slightly confused as I knew what a pack was; father had taught me that word before. It meant a group of beings, or meals. It generally meant a group that was very close to each other. I and father were a pack of sorts.

But we were so much closer, as we were kin!

I didn't understand what the mentality part meant though. But it must have been something bad. I quietly asked father if I had done wrong through our connection, and he sent a glance over his shoulder at me.

He flashed a smile and shook his head to rea.s.sure me. Then I heard his gentle voice.

'No this would have probably happened no matter what we did. It's their fault.'

I nodded towards father as I reaffirmed my hatred towards these inferior beings, they always caused us trouble. Even now my hatred for them was getting stronger.

The howling continued to grow as more and more noise was made behind us.

I gripped my fists as we continued to run, and wondered why we had to avoid them; we could just kill them and be done with it. I would tear them apart if they dared lay their paws on us.

While I was thinking to myself about the situation we were in, I b.u.mped into Fathers back. He stared forwards and I heard a small gus.h.i.+ng noise. A stream of blue was in front of us and I could see a lot of water rus.h.i.+ng by.

The cold wind and sprinkles of water splashed up and wet my face. The other side of the blue stream was 50 meters away and it looked deep. I stared at father who had put the meal down and was staring blankly at the stream.

"What now?"

I asked father who had all the answers and waited. The noise behind us continued to increase and draw closer, my danger perception rising at the same time. Father let out a sigh, as a small feeling of helplessness crept up. I could feel it try and take a hold of him, but it was quickly shook off and was instead replaced by determination.

The fire that rose within his heart fired me up and I could feel my blood boil. He turned to me and showed a smile. Patting my head he reached towards his sword and spoke towards the meal.

"You'll be no use in this fight. I suggest you stay behind us."

The meal was also staring blankly at the water and s.h.i.+vered once or twice when the noise from behind us reached here. She nodded blankly at his words and looked at his figure, as he readied his sword.

'Get ready Ella.'

He sent that small message, so I quickly checked my arrows and also pulled out a sword. It wouldn't be of much use, but it would be enough.

Slugging the bag that was slung over his shoulder onto the ground, he dropped everything that would weigh him down and I did the same.

"Throw us potions when I ask for them."

He spoke to the meal as he handed the bag over, and she nodded, her eyes filling with determination.

Ohh, I liked that look in her eyes. Too bad she was so weak.

I watched as father breathed in a few times to calm his turbulent feelings, only leaving that raging fire inside. His aura burst out and I felt the comfort of his power surround me.

Yes no matter what happened, I would be safe if Father was here.

He closed his eyes as he waited and I stood to the side staring at his side profile. It calmed me to look at him.

Finally the noise that was coming became quiet as the trees that were surrounding us started to shuffle.

A large number of inferior beings suddenly appeared from the trees and I stared at their s.h.i.+mmer teeth.

Their snarls looked like smug smiles as they looked at us like we were meals.

I truly did hate them.

I looked at Father one more time as his eyes finally opened, ice cold, aura raging.

He raised his blade and I pulled up my bow.

"To get stronger, you must have no fear."

Father whispered those words to himself and I, being close, just heard them.

"There's no going back."

He showed a fearless smile and shouted towards these pitiful insects.

"Come on!"
