Six years later…
Xing Chen laid atop of his personal roof, gazing at the twinkling stars above. Ever since he had been born till now, he had barely spoken much. Most of the time, he would just read the common books within his family's library, or at times he would lay on the roof and fall into a daze until the 3 moons rose to illuminate the sky.
Sometimes he would do an all-nighter, like he was doing now. But tonight, the 3 moons that illuminated the sky was brighter than usual. Yet, this all went unnoticed by the dazed Xing Chen.
As the years went by, he kept quiet and stayed reserved ever since he was an infant. Due to his lack of socializing, many of the clans member ignored him with disdain or at best, gave him odd looks all the time.
However, nearly every member respected his father who was second in command of the Xing Clan, but they could not do the same for the reserved Xing Chen. All he did was read in the common area of the clan's library while everyone else was practicing martial arts, learning the spear or focusing on their alchemy.
Despite the disdain from his same generation peers, no one really bullied him. His father did his best to stay away from internal politics of their clan, keeping their home conflict free.
The other kids his age, some a few years older, thought Xing Chen was a waste since he was always avoiding everyone and reading all day. They could not understand what Xing Chen saw in those boring, lifeless and common books, but he didn't care.
It was to the point that Elder Sim, who guarded the Xing's Library, allowed Xing Chen access to the second floor where all the low-tier manuals, scrolls, arts, and techniques were at. Only Elder Sim knew how smart this child was, with permission from Xing Yun and the patriarch, they allowed Xing Chen to access the second floor in secret.
Once a week, Xing Chen had to go up to the second floor to read and translate any of the ancient manual they picked. What made them admire Xing Chen was his ability to learn quickly after he learned how to read, write and speak all 4 known and 5 ancient languages within the Lunar Continent. Not even the most experienced scholars could reach the terrifying knowledge that Xing Chen achieved at the tender age of 6.
At that time, they praised Xing Chen to be a natural born scholar, unaware of his leveling system and inherent skills.
However, to him, without his 'Open Status' Name: Xing Chen Level: 0 Experience: 0 Strength: 10 Endurance: 12 Intelligence: 57 Agility: 11 Will: MAXED Divine Sense: 1 Meter Luck : 3 Inherent Skills : Learned Skills : Languages (9) ... From the last 6 years, Xing Chen noticed that each year he was given 3 stat points to strength, agility, intelligence and endurance. The reasons he gathered was probably or most likely due to his growth. Naturally, a child's body would be weaker than fully grown adult's body, so it would need constant nutrients and time to fully develop. Similarly, to his previous world, most finish developing at the earliest of 18 years of age and the latest at 20 years of age. Thus, training of the body was usually done once an individual reaches the age of 13. From thousands of years in research, 13 was the best age to begin their path towards cultivation. Therefore, Xing Chen chose to wait calmly while acc.u.mulating the points for his intelligence by reading and learning the common and ancients books gathering dust in the Xing Clan's library. To him, knowledge was power. Even in the game he use to play, Heavenly Domain, he spent most of his time in the library. It held various secrets he unearth once he read every possible thing to read there. 'Open Guide' thought Xing Chen as he pondered over on how to obtain experience points. He had been so busy reading and learning, he forgotten to check out how he could level up in this world. Scrolling down the [Guide] he quickly found what he needed know. [Guide] How to obtain Experience Points: Experience rewarded is based on host's current level. If the opponent killed is weaker, host will obtain a small amount of experience ranging 1-10. Once host reach a higher level (realm), host will be unable to gain experience from weaker foes. If the opponent killed is stronger, host will obtain a suitable or large amount of experience based on the level (realm) gap. Taking cultivation pills, poison pill, herbs, spirit stones, etc. be instantly converted into experience based on the tier and host's current level. As host's level become higher, the experience received will either be small or nonexistent. Can still obtain experience from spirit veins, spirit stones or any type of energy that could be refined into experience points. For each level up, host's will obtain 10 Free Attribute Points that can be distributed (excluding Luck). Once host's reaches the age of 13, host's will no longer receive fixed attributes points. **Skills can obtain experience points based on the use and level too. "That leveling guide reminds me of an amazing novel I read back then. Sadly, the ending left a bad taste in my mouth once I finished reading it," Xing Chen thought out loud closing the system's interface. He climbed down the roof of his room, headed out of his courtyard, and strolled towards the Xing Clan's library. Tonight, he had to finish the last translation of the final book the patriarch had tasked him to do. He looked up at the 3 moons that hung above him, an uneasy feeling overcame him as the moons appeared brighter than usual. It felt like it was illuminating the whole Jade City. 'I'll check the ancient history books at the clan's library,' thought Xing Chen as he hurried his short legs to the library. 'Maybe Elder Sim may know what's going on too…' - :: Third chapter's up! Like I said earlier, this novel isn't my main priority :: :: Thank you for reading :: My first and currently prioritized novel is, Celestial of the Void :: :: Please send some stones my way, reviews and/or comments! :: I need to constantly improve! :: -
