If you've got a few hundred bucks to spare and are in search of a new hobby, I highly recommend getting into rc cars. It might sound childish but just try to hear me out.

A few years back I got a carbon fighter 1/10 (one tenth the size of an actual car) which came with everything except batteries and a charger. [The version I got isn't available anymore] With the standard setting and recommended lipo battery it could drive up to 30 kmh which is fast alright for such a small car. I had alot of fun driving it pretty much anywhere from skate parks to parking lots. Eventually I started to tune it ma.s.sively to the point that it became straight up dangerous. I had to swap out a small key component and was able to upgrade from a 7.4V Lipo Battery to a 11.1V Lipo which might not sound huge but that alone rose its max speed to over 80kmh. Although it was already at the point where I barely needed to tap the trigger to make the car go at its old top speed I upgraded it even further.

Since I already upgraded the battery, I decided to go for some bigger wheels. I naturally picked the biggest monster truck looking wheels I could find that would still fit on a 1/10 which were at least twice the size of standard 1/10 wheels. Going at full throttle the wheels expanded to at least twice their originally already ma.s.sive size. To be honest, I'm not sure what the theoretical max speed of my tuned car was at that point.

The appearance of my car is also unrecognizable considering how many times I wrecked it. In the beginning it had a metal cage that was meant to protect the insides which was completely ruined after a rather nasty crash into a ditch. So I just removed it and completely sealed the plastic cover with some duck tape with a cool design. If you want to get an idea of what I'm talking about just google Carbon Fighter 1/10, although the ones that will show up are the slightly different newer models.

Although my car wasn't water proof, with the new huge wheels and almost completely sealed case, I naturally drove it in the snow and had alot of fun. I drove it in any kind of terrain you could imagine and it wasn't safe to be around as it could launch things like pebbles tens of meters and moved way too fast but that's exactly what I loved most about it. I thus kept 3 batteries on me whenever I went out, 2 7.4V for some fun and an 11.1V as a finisher. This ment I was prepared for at a least few hours of fun and if I wanted even more, I could charge my battery whilst driving with the other ones for nearly unlimited power. The main reason I had so much fun was because I had 3 friends who also bought a Carbon Fighter so there was always someone to drive with.

I pretty much had to repair my car on an almost weekly basis from replacing broken parts to bringing out my dual hammers to reshape the main metal board. I also used quite a bit of extremely strong glue whenever possible. It's actually kind of surprising how durable the main metal plate was considering how I bent the front out of shape on numerous occasions and was still able to beat it back into shape every single time. I mainly used 2 hammers since I would otherwise risk hitting something else.

Eventually the gear of my motor couldn't keep up with my extreme tuning and grinded away until all I was left with was a circle. After over 2 years of almost daily use I stopped for some reason that I've long forgotten. Now that I've written such a long chapter about it, I'm really tempted to whip it out fix it up one last time.

The total cost wasn't even 350$ so I'd say it is definitely one of the best investments you could make.
