Chapter 114

"You're certain this is going to work?" James had his avatar screen up, and had a tentacle hesitantly hovering on his choice . From what he knew of Avatars, they were just like player characters . The moment you applied your upgrade, the moment you choose your cla.s.s, or subcla.s.s, it was permanent . There were no do overs, there was no going back .

"Pawsitive . " Rue held up one of her feline paws as she spoke, grinning at her own joke . All James could do was groan . He was half certain Rue had simply chosen the beastkin cla.s.s so she could make additional, terrible, puns . Of course, their race did have a racial bloodl.u.s.t feature that would complement the barbarian berserker subcla.s.s quite nicely, as well as higher physical traits, and dexterity . So maybe, she had only partially chosen the cla.s.s to troll with, and partially chosen it because it made sense .

Advertis.e.m.e.ntThat being said, what they were about to do, made absolutely no sense .

"Nowhere in the notes, or forums, has anyone mentioned this . " James knew there were secret cla.s.ses in DCO, cla.s.ses that could only be unlocked when certain parameters were met . Of course, that was because the makers of DCO had announced such things . And, because he had already seen one such secret cla.s.s unlocked, when the Knights Who Go Ni hit level 30 . But that had been through the combination of two subcla.s.ses, not through what Rue had just instructed him to do .

"That's because it's secret . " She let out an annoyed sigh . "Come on, we both know I've got just as much at stake here as you do . I will not risk us losing to BLANK . " Her eyes narrowed . "In fact, I'm quite looking forward to Xander losing that bet . " She licked one of her ma.s.sive canines . James was really hoping she would turn back into pixie Rue soon . Beastkin Rue was really starting to scare him .

"If you say so . " When he hit level 4 in Avatar research, his avatar technically became level 20 . As such, it was eligible for an upgrade . Of course, the logical course in the upgrades, was to select from one of the variety of subcla.s.ses the game automatically provided for him . These including things such as high summoner, which could enhance the stats of summoned mobs, and monster tamer, which could temporarily befriend additional mobs, and add them to a roster of monsters that could be summoned .

However, James had been instructed to ignore all of those, and instead choose a new cla.s.s as his upgrade option . That seemed extremely counter intuitive . In his mind, that meant he would be tossing aside his cla.s.s as a summoner and selecting a new cla.s.s entirely . Sure, that would give players the ability to change their cla.s.s, if they really wanted to, but at the cost of a subcla.s.s upgrade . And, considering those subcla.s.s upgrades where what provided players with unique skills and customization, well James really didn't want to miss out on that . Especially to be a healer .

But Rue had a.s.sured him over and over, that this was one of the ways to unlock secret cla.s.ses . According to her, if you chose a new cla.s.s type, depending on what you chose, you would create a brand-new cla.s.s . That cla.s.s could have skills from both of the previous cla.s.ses, and lead to even more unique sub cla.s.s options later on in the game . According to Rue, there was actually a unique cla.s.s, that was only available once a player selected each of the starting cla.s.ses as an upgrade . Which, of course, would mean the player would have to be extremely high leveled to accomplish that feat . Considering how many base cla.s.ses there were in the game .

That was not what they were after . What they were after, was a hybrid monster summoning and healing cla.s.s . Something Rue called a Spiritualist . Apparently, it was a secret cla.s.s that could only be gained by selecting a summoner cla.s.s, and then a cleric cla.s.s . The spiritualist, according to Rue, could not only summon mobs, but link to them to other players . In doing so, the summoned mob could share its life force with the person it was linked to, and also apply various buffs . The spiritualist, also apparently would be able to cast a variety of healing spells, depending on the skill upgrades . James currently had two upgrade points . The first, he had already used, as it unlocked Ma.s.s summon for himself, which allowed him to summon additional mobs, as long as their summon amount was less than his total level . The second skill point, he had saved, wanting to wait and see what was available from the high summoner tree . If there hadn't been anything, he had wanted there, he had intended to use it on the enhanced summoner option for the summoner cla.s.s, which would allow him to summon higher leveled versions of his mobs .

"Here goes nothing . " James whispered, and he silently sent a prayer to the G.o.ddess of Luck, ironically Rue, as he confirmed his option . For a moment, it seemed as if the world froze, and he wasn't sure it was imagined, or actually a moment of stopped time in the game . Then, he watched as his avatar began to glow, and the cla.s.s under its name faded, switched to cleric, and then faded again, even as his character was completely enveloped in a golden light . The avatar was surrounded in bright, blinding energy, completely hidden from view, and James watched as the cla.s.s under its level completely disappeared . Then, an alert box appeared in his vision .

Secret Cla.s.s Unlocked – Would you like to unlock this cla.s.s? Y/N (Note, if you select No, your cla.s.s will be reverted back to its latest upgrade *Cleric*)

Grinning, he selected the yes option . Once again, Rue had come through . He wasn't sure where all of her knowledge came from, though he supposed an AI for the game would know the secret features within it . Of course, that meant BLANK probably knew a few secrets themselves, since they were after all privy to Xander's ear, and likely data . However, seeing as it was AI provided data, he didn't feel bad . Every other player had an AI as well, they just needed to bond with it in order to likely gain the same levels of information that James had received .

The moment he selected yes, the bright light covering his avatar grew even more intense, and a cla.s.s t.i.tle spelled itself out underneath his Avatar's level . Just as Rue had told him, it now read Spiritualist .

As soon as it was done being spelled out, the light faded, and he was able to take in his avatar . Whereas before, his elven summoner had two bracelet like bands of runes circling around his wrists, now, his avatar's entire left arm was covered in glowing, swirling runes, from wrist to shoulder, almost like the full sleeve tattoos James had seen in certain movies . These new runes glowed a silvery hue and seemed to be constantly changing . On top of that, it seemed as if James's whole avatar now had a faint silver aura about it . If anything, this change had definitely made his elf look cooler .

"Told ya it would work . " A very smug Rue commented as James looked over his avatar . Her comment drew his attention away from the Avatar, which he still needed to upgrade, rearm, and test out . In doing so, James noticed another notification hanging in the air, and his grin widened . Man, he loved this game .
