Chapter 169

Really, the scene was ridiculous. It was mad, it was crazy…it perfectly fit with what his Avatar was meant to be going for. It fit with the random nature of his dungeon in every way, and it just felt right. That, and it totally reminded James of the scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail which involved launching animals…he had to resist summoning a mad cow to launch, the pun of cow-tapult already on his tongue.

"Fire!" Z called out the order as Oak and Elm both activated their catapults. As one, both siege weapons released, accompanied by a long, comical "Baaaaaaaaaaaa" As two sacrificial lambs were sent flying through the air. James and the group of adventurers watched as the sheep soared towards the Candy Dragon, who was roughly half a mile away from them now. A moment later, both sheep smashed into the dragon. Even though they were summoned by James, meaning their size had been greatly increased, they still seemed rather small as the punched into the mighty beast.

On impact, two red and white bursts erupted against the dragon, as blood and wool went flying. The candy dragon was coated in the sacrificial lamb's blood, which also dripped onto the ground below. James secretly hoped that rain of blood landed on some of the player's that he knew had to be waiting below the dragon. It might not be much, but a DoT was still a DoT.

"Reload." Z ordered, a wide grin on his face. Because of how cheap sacrificial lambs were, even with James using his enhanced summon feature, he had two additional sacrificial lambs waiting and ready to be loaded onto the catapult already. James also still had his d.i.c.ken linked to Z. Apparently, the moment he linked a mob to a player, he lost the ability to unsummon it. Something he figured should have been mentioned in the skill description. Though, he wasn't too upset, as Z was definitely someone he wanted to have a d.i.c.ken a.s.signed to.

James mentally commanded his two sacrificial lambs towards the catapults, while he pointed his hand at the ground, preparing to summon two more. When the lambs died, he was refunded half of his mob points instantly. Then it seemed the additional mob points would creep back into his pool. A feature he guessed that was meant to keep summoners from just spamming their summon options. Something that James begrudgingly figured made sense. Otherwise, a player with a few mana potions and the right mobs would be able to just completely overrun an area with a mob of mobs.

With the two already launched sacrificial lambs, the two loaded onto the catapult, the two he had just summoned, and the one d.i.c.ken a.s.signed to Z, James did a quick check on how many more mobs he could summon. Each of the sacrificial lambs, because he had used enhanced summon, cost him 3 points, against his normal 25 max. The d.i.c.ken, which he had just done a regular summon on, cost him 1 point. The two d.i.c.kens that had died had refunded back to him 3 points to his limit, but 3 points had still been deducted with a cooldown timer.

13/22* (25) Available summoner limit

*Summoner points are deducted temporarily when a summoned mob is killed. Summoner points return at a rate of 1 mob point per 30seconds.

The reduction to his summoner limit seemed fair, considering again he could justify the reason for such a limit on a cla.s.s like a summoner. That being said, it meant he wasn't going to be able to keep up the barrage, as he would be burning through summoner points faster than they recovered. Though, James also knew he and the knights weren't intending to continue their little game of sheep lobbing. The purpose of the attacks was to stack DoTs onto the dragon as they possibly could. They were hopefully the attacks would actually draw the aggro of the world boss, and force it to come closer. Doing so, would let the rest of James's adventurers begin launching attacks of their own. From the safety of their immediate summoned area, which James doubted BLANKs players were going to be bold enough to attack just yet.

"Fire." Z called out again, and again two more sacrificial lambs were sent flying. James ordered his next batch of sheep towards the catapult, but before he could begin summoning two more, he paused. Partially because he was stalling for a little time in between summons, to let his mob points refresh. But also because he just really wanted to watch the two wooly projectiles fly towards their targets. Seriously, James had to wonder if the man who developed the sacrificial lambs as a mob type ever fathomed this would be how they would be used.

James found a grin forming on his face, but it faded an instantly later as he watched the ma.s.sive dragon let out a fearsome roar of rage as the two sheep exploded against it. The Candy Crush-ur was coated quite heavily in sacrificial lamb blood now, and James could guess the DoT would slowly be doing its job. And, since it was a world boss mob, he had figured there wasn't going to be a way for it to remove the DoT. Which…as James watched, he realized was a rookie mistake.

The Candy Crush-ur shook its entire body mid-air, and James watched as pieces of jawbreaker armor flaked off of the dragon, as if it were molting. Any part of it that had the sacrificial lamb blood on it simply fell away in a thin layer, leaving it a moment later completely devoid of the blood, and the DoT.

"Fire." The final two sacrificial lambs were sent flying towards the Candy Dragon. Sure it had cleansed itself, but skills such as that usually had a cooldown. Even if it was only a 10 second CD, that was still some extra damage they could apply to the dragon.

This time though, the World Boss seemed to be done with letting itself get hit by flying sheep. With a mighty flap of its taffy wings, the creature brought its body even higher into the sky, causing the sheep to miss their mark and fly harmlessly past it, cras.h.i.+ng down somewhere in the distance. They still exploded on impact, which James knew for certain, considering he watched as his mob points got refunded and hit with their limiter at the same time.

"Whelp, it was fun while it lasted." Z commented, drawing grins from the rest of his party. James nodded in agreement, before he turned his focus back to the dragon. It was no longer hovering. It was flying towards them, and fast. And, James couldn't help but notice the dragon seemed to have a single focus as it flew. The dragon was starring directly at him. Maybe launching exploding sheep at it hadn't been the greatest idea. Maybe they had overstepped their bounds and really p.i.s.sed the dragon off.

Or, perhaps BLANK had given the dragon new orders. James figured the duo had obviously originally sent the beast out in order to try and draw them into the woods, where James was certain BLANKs forces were waiting to ambush them, on top of whatever damage the world boss could do. However, now that that plan seemed to be unlikely, considering none of James's players were moving an inch closer to the forest than necessary, especially after James issued a warning to them, BLANK had improvised.

If James was going to be a nuisance as an Avatar, then BLANK was just going to have him brought down, and quickly. He may be an Avatar, but he was only level 25. The Candy Crush-ur was a level 40 World Boss. It didn't take much gaming experience to figure who would normally win in that fight.

"Hey elf." An idea pushed past the fear he was feeling as the dragon drew ever closer. He really wasn't looking forward to that creature attacking him. But he also had a bunch of tricks of his own to use against BLANK. Not to mention, if he could bring down their world boss without having to have his players summon a world boss of their own, well then he figured his team would be on top there. Plus, James had the utmost faith in his players. Especially the Knights. And, James had another mad plan formed.

"I'm not gonna like this am I." The elf glanced from James, to the approaching dragon, and back to James.

"Probably not. But in return, how about the dungeon build you a shrubbery after the war is all said and done?"
