Why is she here?

They used to come to this place often together. Usually, when Lin Meng was in a bad mood, he would bring her there to distract her.

He frowned when he saw the bottle of beer in her hand. 

‘When did she learn to drink?'

Hearing his voice, Lin Meng turned to look. She smiled. She knew that he would find her.

“We are going home.” Ouyang Jun s.n.a.t.c.hed the bottle of beer from her hand and dragged her towards his car.

She reeked of alcohol. “How much did you drink? You shouldn't have drunk so heavily even if you are happy about the proposal,” Ouyang Jun chided her.

Lin Meng struggled in his grasp. He sighed and let her go.

“What's wrong?” 

Did something unpleasant happen between her and Gu Yunbai?

Lin Meng did not speak, merely lowered her head.

“Let's go home, okay?” He said, patting her head.

Lin Meng raised her head and squinted at him. She stared at him in fascination and proceeded to clasp her hands around his neck, get on her tiptoes, and kiss his lips. The soft touch of her lips against his and the unique scent of the girl lingered in his mind.

At first, it was just a light touch. Noticing that Ouyang Jun had no particular reaction, she snorted. She grew more daring. Lin Meng closed her eyes and caressed the line of his lips with the tip of her tongue.

“Xiao Meng, you are drunk.” Ouyang Jun pushed her away viciously. He looked at her with a weird gaze and stumbled back.

“I am not drunk. I am sober enough to know who I like. It has always been you. Why do you pretend not to know? Why do you push me away, again and again—why do you do this to me?” Lin Meng was frustrated with him. She had thoughts that her hints of love had eluded him these past several years. Now, she realized that he had always known but hadn't dared to face her emotions.

“I am your Uncle.” Ouyang Jun roared. It was not clear if he was telling her or reminding himself of this truth.

This single piece of truth stood between them like a wall, never to be overcome.

  “But we don't have a blood relations.h.i.+p,” she yelled just as boldly. Huge waves thrashed against the surface of the water as they approached the sh.o.r.e.

Just as the loud sound of the waves, her words pierced his heart. She hated this complicated relations.h.i.+p between them-this relations.h.i.+p that they struggled against but couldn't break free from.

Ouyang Jun remained silent, but his hands were clenched into fists at his side. It was the only way he could suppress his emotions from bursting out.

“I never understood why you wouldn't accept me. Was this why? You pushed me into someone else's arm for such a ridiculous obstacle?” 

With tears blurring her eyes, Lin Meng stared at him. Immense grief and anguish filled her gaze.

“It doesn't matter if we aren't related by blood, you are my niece, and this is a fact you can't change.” Ouyang Jun said with a straight face.

  Fact? What fact? I know the truth: you love me, but you can't admit to it.” Her eyes were unwavering, they stared right into his soul, filled with the knowledge of his love for her. She could feel it… it was not the love one felt for a relative. It was the love a man holds for a woman.
