Irene, who has still yet to obtain substantial combat power, has Gelard watching over her, while Nala has the spells that Seth had taught to her. Those spells are powerful enough, and the amount of magic energy in her body is sufficient enough, to protect her long enough for Seth to make it to her from any part of the city, even if her opponent turns out to be a 3rd stage cultivator.
As for everyone else in the city, Seth does not care anywhere near as much about if they die or not. He does not care if they die... but he does not want to see the innocent suffer. That is how much of a hypocrite he is. He would rather see all the innocents in the world die painless deaths, while all the sinners in the world be tortured to death. If the human race is wiped out like that, he would be laughing to his grave.
...
The Deep Sea Sect and the Marble Sand Sect were both large sects that existed thousands of years ago.
The Deep Sea Sect ended slightly over 1000 years ago, destroyed by the vengeful Mermen race.
The people of the Deep Sea Sect lived on an artificial island built upon a certain part of the sea. They specialized in spells centered around the two elements of water and darkness. All of their cultivators either wore clothes fas.h.i.+oned with fish scales, or had their skin coated in fish scale patterns made through the use of their spells.
Their diets consisted entirely of seafood. Using their spells to allow them to swim underwater for long periods at a time, they were able to fish for prey deep into the sea.
These prey includes those beautiful half-fish, half-human, monsters called "Mermaids". They would stab them through with their harpoons, and then drag their bodies up onto land to slice their flesh apart and EAT them. The myth about how if you eat the flesh of a mermaid, your longevity will increase, turned out to be true. This caused both the men and the women of the Deep Sea Sect to greedily hunt the mermaids for a long time, until the spouses of those mermaids, the mermen, finally could not tolerate it any longer and took revenge in an all-out war. In the end, the Deep Sea Sect was destroyed, and its legacies were scattered across the sea, waiting for some lucky ones to pick them up.
Nala watched as many hundreds of bandits madly charged at her with endless greed in their eyes. Contrary to what she should have expected, she felt no fear in her at all. There was only a utter sense of calm, as if she were safely floating at the bottom of the sea.
The tail made out of water and darkness growing from her waist moved. At the same time that it moved, it lengthened. She felt and controlled it as if it were a third arm of hers'.
When the first bandit got within the range of her tail, she lifted it up. Her tail felt weightless to her.
Immediately afterwards, she swung it down. There was no hesitation at all. It not only didn't show on her face. It did not show in her heart either.
Parting the air, the tail as thick as a log, and even heavier than that, slammed straight down at the bandit.
SPLAT!!
There was a sound as if a sack full of water was just crushed underfoot. When Nala lifted her tail, she saw a gruesome pool of blood and organs. Shattered pieces of metal and cloth, along with a tattered human skin with white "stone" pieces sticking out of it, was left in that pool.
"Eww~" Nala uttered. She didn't take a second look. She thought that she would feel guilt after having killed a person, but no such feeling appeared in her at all. It was as if she became no longer capable of feeling that emotion. She was confused as to why that was so, but she did not dwell on it for long. Now is not the time.
The time spent for thought barely lasted a few seconds.
A bullet struck at her shoulder. It caused ripples to spread on the layer of water covering her skin. The ripples flowed out from the point of impact, and then they reversed, flowing back into the bullet. Time seemed to rewind, as the bullet bounced back to where it came! The sniper who shot at her let out a shriek as his gun fell out of his hands, but Nala ignored that. It was inconsequential.
Her tail rose. It parted the air as it swung in a arc.
WHAM! SLAM! CRAs.h.!.+ SPLAT!
An entire row of bandits was swept through, and died in an instant. Their splattered remains were tossed out of sight.
The tail took no damage. There was not even a single scratch on those vague scales on its surface.
Not even bothering to take a look at her handiwork, Nala raised her tail yet again, aiming at those foolish bandits running towards her without any regard for their lives.
...
The Marble Sand Sect existed up until less than 3000 years ago, before it was destroyed by the 4th Emperor of Carnage. (Since there was 4th, there was naturally, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, before him.)
Compared to the Deep Sea Sect, the Marble Sand Sect could still be considered a pitiful victim, as it was a just a simple tribal sect, living out a life in a desert full of white sand. Their people spent everyday praying to the G.o.ds and fighting off the monsters that sp.a.w.ned in the desert. Whenever one of their warriors manage to slay a strong monster, they would bring its corpse back and prop it up for all to see. This was a glory for the sect, and a sort of rite of pa.s.sage for their growing warriors. One day, one of their warriors happened to bring back the corpse of a mighty sphinx... That was when the tragedy began.
The 4th emperor of carnage accused the members of the Marble Sand Sect, of being monsters that would even defile creatures with human faces. He said this despite himself being someone that would hang his fellow men in public executions. For the sake of "justice", the 4th emperor of carnage brought an army to wipe them out.
When Ronold Wolf saw that not only the ground beneath his feet, but also the stone houses around the street, and everything else made of rock or earth, were disintegrating into white sand floating into the air, he knew that there was no longer any leeway left.
If the one among the people here using magic now, wasn't Seth... If it wasn't the boy whose bare hands could break apart a thick steel weapon, and whose body seems nigh indestructible, then he could still muster up some greed, but with those two factors behind that dangerous weapon called magic, Ronold Wolf could only feel a very real sense of danger.
Ronold Wolf took out a fiery red pill that he had hidden on his body. Compared to the previous pills he had taken, that were the size of common candies, this one is as big as a jawbreaker. A flash of hesitation went through Ronold Wolf's eyes, but in the end, he still put it into his mouth, crunched, and gulped.
The pill dissolved as it went down his throat, giving him a very spicy taste.
After it entered his stomach, an uncomfortable heat spread throughout his entire body. His mind seemed to burn, and he let out a roar!
ROARR!!!
This roar startled everyone in Haradur city, whether it was the bandits, the soldiers, or the remaining citizens.
The muscles on Ronold Wolf's body swelled, from his calves to his thighs, to his pecs to his chest, arms, and neck. The veins all over his body bulged out, as his skin color went from a dark tan, to a pinkish tan, to reddish brown. Hot air exited out of his mouth, and his pupils dilated. The sweat on his body seems to be turning into steam, forming an aura that is steadily rising in intensity.
The wounds that he had on his body, including that cut on his neck, began to gradually heal.
Ronold Wolf had went from the 4th level of the escaping fatality stage, to 7th level, to the 10th. He broke through the peak of his stage and rose to 1st level of the 4th stage, the Overflowing Vitality stage!
The other name of the 3rd stage is the lesser immortal stage, and the other name of the 4th stage is the greater immortal stage. This is because both of these stages make a man seem as if they are immortal.
At the stage of escaping fatality, fatal wounds are no longer as fatal. With the exception of a serious wound to the brain, or the severance of the head, a wound to any other organ or body part, will not quickly lead to death. Even if a 3rd stage cultivator were to lose both his arms and his legs, as long as he does not lose too much blood, he will not die. The amount of blood that he would need to lose to die would also increase, going from somewhere between 40 to 50 percent, to somewhere between 60 to 70 percent. A proportional increase applies to the amount of time the 3rd stage cultivator can survive without air.
Due to this special trait of 3rd stage cultivators, it is much harder to kill them than to kill cultivators of a lower stage. That is because the longer they are allowed to stay alive, the more chances they would have, to take healing elixirs or pills to restore themselves.
At the stage of overflowing vitality, any damage to the flesh can automatically recover, given enough energy and time. Other than the brain, which is the most complex, any other organ can regenerate so long as it has not been completely removed or destroyed. The more complex the organ, the longer it would take to restore.
It should not need to be said, that this regeneration ability greatly increases a cultivator's survivability. Coupled with the ability of prolonged death that the cultivator gains at the 3rd stage, a 4th stage cultivator is even harder to kill.
Not only that, but as indicated by the name of the stage, once a cultivator breaks through to the 4th stage, their vitality increases greatly. This means that both their minds and their bodies will become considerably more energetic than before... though, this also means that their metabolism has risen, and that they become hungry more easily.
"Power! This is power! I have so much power that now, no one can oppose MEEE!!" Ronold Wolf roared, getting intoxicated by the power granted to him by the pill that he had consumed. The veins bulging throughout his face made him look ugly, and his eyes almost seemed to catch on fire.
"Ehhh~ You actually took a Berserk pill? Those things sap up your life force, and the consequences are 10 times worse than whatever benefits they give you. Are you an idiot, or did you not read the product description?" Seth said, in exasperated tone of voice.
The white sand he had summoned is still floating in the air, making for quite a scenic battleground.
Seth got himself ready for a tough battle.
