It is a bright Sunday afternoon.

Under the clear, cloudless skies, the marketplace in Dark Ash city's south side, is bustling with activity. People taking their breaks from work, housewives going out shopping, kids running around with their pocket change; All this led to an endless din of noises in the marketplace.

Shrouded in a black cloak that casts a shadow over his face, Seth set up a booth on a side of a street.

The booth came out of nowhere, and his seat came out of nowhere. Then, a crystal ball with a somewhat greenish s.h.i.+ne, appeared in midair. After making sure the sign was secure, Seth sat down and started mumbling something. His lips were making movements, but no sounds were coming out at all. To the pa.s.serbys, it is a slightly bizarre sight, but no one paid much attention to that.

When the people take a look at the signboard, they read the words, "A Spellcaster's Adultery Check. 1 Silver Coin per Examination.".

Then, after falling speechless, they would turn away and leave. Only very few would linger for a moment in consideration.

Those who spot it for the first time might ask their friends, "Hey, do you know what that is?".

If their friends knew the answer, they would say, "That is a shop where you can bring your lover to, to see if they have been cheating on you."

The ignorant would ask, "Isn't that a sham?"

A more knowledgeable one would answer, "I heard it's not. The person running it is a real spellcaster. People once saw him use magic to bury a ruffian that tried to break down his booth into the ground. The guy didn't die, but he had to stay there with his head popping out of the ground until his friends came to dig him out."

The more wary ones would ask, "But is there really a magic to check adultery?"

Then, the patient ones would answer, "It seems so. Want to wait and see?"

Despite how weird a shop it is, customers do occasionally appear.

Today, a salary man dragged his wife over for a check.

Her husband, the salary man, works 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. He rarely ever has time for his wife. He only comes home during the holidays and when he gets sick. The last time he was home, he felt that his wife was acting kind of distant towards him. When he mentioned it to one of his colleagues, that colleague suggested this booth to him. Thus, he took a day off and brought her here. Staring into the eyes of his wife, he replied, "Sweetie, I want to trust you. That's why I'm bringing you here."

The woman hesitated, and said, "But one silver coin. That's a waste of money."

Her husband replied, "Don't worry. I work all the time. I have a lot of savings. You know where you get your handbags from.". Compared to the people living in mortal cities, the people living in immortal cities do make more money. Most people in mortal cities only use copper coins in their day-to-day transactions.

Seeing that he had customers, one serious looking man and one unhappy woman, Seth put a smile on his face.

He asked, "h.e.l.lo Sir and Madam, what will it be today? Do you want to know if your partner is cheating on you? Do you want to know if your child is truly yours? Or do you want to know if your partner intends to cheat on you? Or perhaps you want to know how many lovers your partner has had in the past?"

The salary man was surprised. "You do so many services? Then, I want to know if my wife is cheating on me, and if she has any intention to."

"Darling!" His wife yelled. Hearing him say that so directly offended her even more.

The man looked at his wife apologetically, "I'm sorry, sweetie. Just this once. I'll never doubt you again after this."

The woman glared at Seth. "You better not make anything up!" She shouted. She didn't really believe that Seth is a spellcaster, but she doesn't want him telling her husband anything unnecessary.

Seth maintained his smile. "Don't worry, Madam. Everything I say is without falsehood. If you need, I can even tell you if your husband has hidden a mistress anywhere..."

Although polygamy is allowed in this world, wives can still be dissatisfied with their husbands, and they can still initiate divorces. Due to that reason, there are husbands whom hide their lovers from their wives.

"Hmph. No need." The woman glowered. She has access to the safe where her husband stores his savings. She knows that he isn't spending any of his money on other women. As for the possibility of a woman sleeping with him for nothing in return? There's no way there could be a woman like that.

"Okay then. 1 silver please." Seth said.

The man handed over a silver coin.

Seth pocketed the coin. Then, he picked up the crystal ball, looked at the woman, and shouted, "Who are you sleeping with!?"

Right after he shouted, he tossed the crystal ball!

Caught off guard, the woman could not react at all. The crystal ball struck her right on her forehead!

BONK!

"Ouch!" The woman screamed, flinching as she tipped backwards.

"Sweetie, are you okay!?" Her husband quickly caught her.

"What was that for!?" The woman screamed angrily at Seth. A slight pink bruise remained on her forehead. Her husband glared at Seth as well.

Having caught the crystal ball that bounced off of the woman's forehead, Seth took a look. Then, a smirk appeared on his face.

He slowly turned the crystal ball around. The crystal ball that was clear before, now has an image within it. It is a image of a naked man, with a well-built body, and a c.o.c.ky expression. This man's appearance is completely different from that of the salary man's.

Seeing that image, both the man and the woman widened their eyes. The man's face slowly turned enraged, while the face of the woman quickly turned pale.

"Darling! It's not true! This is not what you think!" The woman quickly screamed.

"Huckson from next door? You were sleeping with him!?" The man's body was trembling as he stared angrily at his wife. Unless this spellcaster knew that he would come visit him, and knew his home address, and went to investigate beforehand, there's no way his neighbor's face would suddenly appear on this crystal ball when the question of who his wife was sleeping with was asked.

Then, the couple started an intense argument on a public street. It finally ended with the man slapping his wife and impatiently walking away, saying that he needs to go change the lock combination on his safe. After that, he will announce a divorce!

The woman, with a hand-print on a side of her face, turned around and gave Seth's booth a hard and angry stomp. Then, she quickly chased after her husband, running in her high-heels.

Watching this, Seth felt a sense of satisfaction.

Suddenly, Gelard, who was biting onto a fishcake while sitting on the table, asked, "Is the stupid master happy?"

Seth nodded and replied, "Your stupid master is indeed happy. Bringing evil to the light, watching insincere couples break apart, sends such a refres.h.i.+ng feeling to my heart." Compared to that, the money is barely worth anything.

"Kitty thinks the stupid master is just bored because Nala said she wants to study."

During her two month break, Nala had been reading her textbooks. But without going to cla.s.s, there's no way she could be completely in sync with her lessons. Thus, she invited some of her female friends to their house for a study session.

Seth had offered to help her study. The study materials of a school in a mere immortal city are nothing to him. But Nala refused him, telling him that it's better for him to spend his time cultivating.

"Having grown up, has she started wanting some time away from her husband to be with her girlfriends? I feel so lonely... and Irene always kicks me out soon after I enter her room." Seth complained. "But I'm glad I can put this crystal ball to use. Otherwise, it would have been a waste for me to melt down the Savant Snake Sword to craft this magic item."

Seth rubbed the crystal ball.

If there were a item stats tag, like in games, then this crystal ball's would be something like:

[Savant Snake's Crystal Ball

Category: Utility type magic treasure / Blunt Weapon type magic treasure

Rarity: Lesser Uncommon

Attack Power: 10 ~ 400

Description: A crystal ball with some mithril mixed in. The runes carved in the magic metal can cast a spell that looks into a person's mind to reflect what they are thinking at the current moment. Requires input of magic energy, and direct contact with the person's head. Will only work on beings at the 3rd stage or below.]

...

After that, Seth had two more sets of customers.

One was a richly-dressed fat lady, who brought her meek husband along.

The woman, fatter and flabbier than a walrus, stopped at Seth's booth. Her body cast a shadow as big as a mountain. After taking a look at the booth, she asked in a deep voice. "Is this test effective?"

"Would you like to try it for yourself, milady?" Seth asked.

The fat woman nodded, showing off her many layers of chin. "Very well."

She looked to her husband, and said, "Pay him."

Then, she handed her husband her purse.

The man obediently dug through the purse, took out a wallet, and from the wallet, took out a silver coin.

He handed to coin over to Seth, who received it.

Seth tossed the crystal ball.

The crystal ball bounced on the fat woman's head, causing her facial fat to jiggle. The fat must have dispersed all the force, as the fatty didn't seem to take any damage at all. There wasn't a bruise, nor did she make the slightest wince.

Looking at the crystal ball, Seth put on a face of surprise. "Oh my. Milady is vigorous. You actually have 8 partners..."

The fat woman nodded in satisfaction, while her husband said nothing.

This world allows polygamy. Powerful and rich men are allowed to have many women. At the same time, powerful and rich women are allowed to have many men.

Although, because most of human society is run by men, whom usually disdain women having many partners despite they themselves doing the same, any women whom would do such a thing out in the open would usually get put down quite quickly. Unfortunately, that still would not stop them from trying to build their own harems.

This fat lady here, is one such woman of power. Although she is a daughter of a rich family, she is so fat that no one wants her. Thus, she picked her own husband from some handsome men of lower status. To sate her l.u.s.t, she also meets with male prost.i.tutes on a daily basis. All men of similar status to her, look down on her, but she doesn't care.

"Today, I want you to examine this husband of mine. I tasted the scent of another woman on him yesterday night. I want to know if he has been meeting any wh.o.r.es." The fat lady said, with a vicious glint in her eyes.

The meek man lowered his head.

Although Seth maintained a courteous smile on his face, inside, he was pitying the man, thinking, "Being forced to sleep with a heavy thing like that, I'd find it stranger if he didn't want to cheat.".

The crystal ball bounced on the man's head.

Seth took a look, and then made a reply to the fat. "The crystal ball shows nothing. Rest a.s.sured, madam. Your husband is not cheating on you."

The fat lady breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness. Now I don't have to strangle him."

Hearing that, the meek man s.h.i.+vered.

Then, they both turned away and left with their elbows locked together. The fat lady was happy, while the meek man felt helpless.

By the time they walked to the end of the street, and were about to reach their car, the meek man heard a whisper by his ear.

"Be careful not to get caught with that maid. Otherwise, it won't only be you in danger, but her as well."

Feeling a sense of shock, he spun his head around, and saw that spellcaster waving at him goodbye. He looked to the mountain that is his wife, and saw that she didn't notice. Suddenly, he felt very thankful in his heart.

What he heard next though, made his groin feel some illusory pain.

"Husband, I feel so glad. Tonight, you can antic.i.p.ate me in my s.e.xiest underwear!" His wife said with pep in her usual deep voice...

The last set of customers came right before the shop closed up for the day.

"What can I do for this lovely couple?" Seth kindly asked.

Neither member of this new couple looks rich. Both of them are commoners. One is a good-looking man, and the other is a fairly pretty woman. The belly of the woman is bulging outward.

With just that clue itself, it was obvious what they came here for.

The good-looking man directly said, "I want to know if the child she carries is mine."

The woman went on to explain. She said, "Before I got together with Conny, I had another man."

"That guy was a b.a.s.t.a.r.d. He kept on abusing her." The man added.

"It was Conny who saved me." The woman said. She looked at the man called Conny with love in her eyes.

"It's not like I want her to toss the child. I just want to know if the child can inherit my surname." The man explained. Surnames are inherited through blood connections. Marriage doesn't change a surname, and neither does adoption, not in this place anyways.

Seth nodded in understanding. He received his payment, and then instructed them. "The two of you, please, come closer."

The couple walked closer to the booth.

"Show me your hands." The couple did as Seth instructed.

He held both their wrists and then muttered some words to cast a spell.

"You don't need to use the crystal ball?" The man asked.

"Not for this particular service." Seth replied. Then, with a cheerful tone, he announced, "Okay, the results are out. Congratulations, mister. It's your child, and it's a boy."

"Hahaha!" The man laughed out loud. "So it's a boy. It's my son! That's great!"

He truly seems to be happy. The man took the hands of his wife and lovingly said some words of thanks to her, which caused his wife to start crying tears of happiness.

Witnessing this scene, Seth thought, "Can the two of you not act so lovey-dovey just a foot in front of me? D*mn it! Later, I'm definitely going to flirt with my own wife as much as I can!". But despite what he was thinking, there was still a gentle smile on his face.

"Thank you, Mr. Spellcaster." The couple bowed and left.

Seth waved them goodbye. Although he felt it unfortunate that he wasn't able to break another couple apart, he felt this wasn't a bad way to end a day of work.

"I'll probably never see this couple again." He thought. When the couple disappeared from his sight, he started packing up.

With a business such as this, Seth had no need to hope for repeat customers. The only customers that would repeatedly visit him, are those men that have so many wives and concubines that they can't help but constantly worry about being cheated on. Any others would only check once, and that would be enough. After all, checking any more times than that, would make a relations.h.i.+p break apart even if there isn't any cheating involved.

Unexpectedly though, less than a month later, Seth would see this man named Conny, running around the streets in a panic, searching everywhere while screaming out the name of his wife.

When Seth stopped him to ask what had happened, Conny said, "Mr. Spellcaster... My wife.... She has been kidnapped!"
