Chapter 2 Part 2- While the interview is under way
Chen Minhao was awakened by the notification sound of a message.
“Chen Minhao, your interview is scheduled at three o'clock this afternoon, the interview location will be at Chief Kang's office. Please be punctual. And also, there will not be any training sessions arranged for this week for all the trainees who are scheduled for interview. Please reply to confirm that you have received the message.”
The sender was from an unknown number. Chen Minhao conjectured that the sender was Kang Hui's a.s.sistant.
He immediately got up, and replied: “I've received the message, I'll be at there on time.”
He was initially worried that if he was to attend the training cla.s.ses, he would not keep up with the teachers' progress, and that his secret might be exposed. But, fortunately, there was no training lessons scheduled for this week.
Although, he did not ask how many trainees were before him, but by estimating the timing of his interview which was scheduled to be at today's afternoon, he conjectured that his interview sequence should be around the middle between the others'.
He speculated that the interview sequence might have been arranged according to the trainees' scores that are graded in the usual training cla.s.ses. When he thought that after the three-members group gets formed, there might be a possibility that there would be new teachers teaching the group, giving him a chance to start over anew, and reducing the possibility of exposing his secret, it made his desire to enter the trio group increased a little more.
As a top excellent interviewee, he was well aware that in the interview process, first impression matters greatly, and wearing appropriate attire for the interview is crucial.
Appropriate means that the attire must be suitable to the time, occasion, place and style of the setting. Chen Minhao opened his wardrobe, but found that there were only a few clothes inside.
While he was planning to leave his house to shop for new clothes, he thought about his bank balance and the lack of time, and decided to wear the renowned battle gear for interview: white s.h.i.+rt and jeans.
The so-called “When your salary is entirely spent, your heart will naturally cools” describes Chen Minhao perfectly. It means that when all of your salary have been expended, your heart will be as tranquil as calm water as you will not have any needless thoughts anymore.
Before the interview, the interviewee must guess what kind of person is the interviewer is looking for. Only then, can the interviewee show a targeted performance to the interviewer during the interview.
Chen Minhao had prepared for a few questions that might be asked, and a trump card that only a transmigrator would have, before he went to the company where he hoped to obtain some information from the trainees who had finished the interview before him.
Kang Hui's office was on the 12th floor. There were only four agents on the 12th floor, and three of them were not in the office as they were following their artists around to go on shows.
At 12:30 in the afternoon, Chen Minhao was already waiting at the company's empty corridor.
At 1:30 in the afternoon, Chief Kang's office door opened. Gao Dao came out from the office with an excited but slightly nervous expression. It was obvious that even though he came out of the office, his mind was still stuck in the interview just now.
Gao Dao is eighteen years old this year. Four years ago, he took part in a talent compet.i.tion for child stars, and was discovered by the company and recruited as a trainee. He has yet to make his debut.
Chen Minhao asked him with a suns.h.i.+ne-like smile: “Have you eaten?”
He didn't take the initiative to ask how the interview was or what were the interview questions because he knew that the young man's character in front of him. After finis.h.i.+ng every test or whenever he did something, he always couldn't help but want to share and tell someone to relieve his stress.
“Chief Kang said, if you are here in advance, then you can just go in.” A young girl who had not appeared before in his memory came out and told him just as his plan was about to succeed.
The girl appeared to be in her early twenties. She was wearing a light blue dress with beautiful laces sewn at her cuffs area, sleeves, neckline, chest area, and etc. The laces accentuated her looks, and made her appear even prettier.
Chen MinHao grinned widely as he thought internally that his plan had failed. But, he still increased his pace, and followed her inside. He even practiced his smile with a mirror: “h.e.l.lo, Chief Kang!”
He was well aware that the interview was not a 100-meter race and that was no one present to announce to him that the interview had started.
Kang Hui appeared to be in her early thirties. Chen Minhao wasn't certain about her actual age.
“Sit down, and wait here.” After saying that, Kang Hui walked out of her office, leaving Chen Minhao and the girl in the office with nothing to do but stare at each other with a helpless air.
She doesn't even pour a cup of water to me. Her job security looks worrying if her service awareness is like this… Chen Minhao thought to himself as he smiled, and waited in the office, standing on the spot. He did not sit down at the sofa nor the chair.
Suddenly, the girl discreetly slapped her forehead: “I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Wu Xiaoshuang, I am Chief Kang's a.s.sistant. You can just address me as Xiaoshuang. Nice to meet you.”
“h.e.l.lo, Xiaoshuang. Nice to meet you too.” Chen Minhao politely responded.
After that, the two of them fell silent again.
“Did anyone mention before? You look very attractive.” Just as Wu Xiaoshuang's words had scarcely escaped her mouth, she scolded herself in her heart, as even if she couldn't find any topic to talk about, she shouldn't say such a weird thing too.
Not only am I good-looking, I'm also gentle, lovely, smart, humorous, and outgoing. Furthermore, I am graceful in the drawing room and skillful in the kitchen… How could you just say that I'm good-looking?!”
Wu Xiaoshuang was amused by the young man before her, and they both felt that their relations.h.i.+p had tremendously improved.
After around two or three minutes later, Kang Hui opened the door, and entered the office before she said: “Sit down.”
“Isn't your interview scheduled to be 3 pm? Why are you here so early?” Kang Hui's voice sounded a little cold.
“On one hand, I was worried to be late, and on the other hand, I was hoping to scoop some information out from the trainees that had finished their interviews before me.”
Kang Hui raised her head slightly, and scrutinized Chen Minhao, then she remarked: “Looks like you're not that stupid.”
Chen Minhao smiled awkwardly, and scratched his head innocently. But, deep down, he knew he had made the right move.
In the talent compet.i.tion – 《Produce 101》, where only around two hours of the show is being broadcasts every week , the trainees who wish to be the last surviving 9 people in the show have to be fearless in competing against the others as they need to stand out from the other 100 trainees to have a chance in becoming the last 9 trainees.
Thus, the company is definitely looking for trainees who aren't afraid of cutthroat compet.i.tion, and not those who will take things in stride without taking any initiative to improve their chances.
Kang Hui lifted her head, and stared at him for a while before asking: “What do you think is your advantage over the other trainees?”
Chen Minhao was briefly stunned. he did not expect her to ask him this question right from the start.
Do I say my vocal?
Unfortunately, his vocals wasn't the best among all the trainees. As for his dancing skills, it could only be considered as mediocre when compared to the other trainees.
Kang Hui changed her posture, she crossed her arms, and leaned her body forward, making her out to look more aggressive.
After much thoughts, Chen Minhao replied: “Fast learner. The fact that I'm a fast learner is my advantage over the others. Unlike the other trainees, I did not have any training in vocal and dance at an early age. I only started learning them after I entered the company. Within two years, I have surpa.s.sed some of the trainees who was taught from a young age. This shows that I can learn things faster than all the other trainees.”
Kang Hui nodded slightly, and prompted him to continue.
“In addition, the purpose of program, 《Produce 101》is to showcase the trainees' struggles for the pursue of their dreams, to the audience. My vocal ability is not bad, and the level of my dancing skills is sufficient that it will not drag down the group's performance. Although my combined score for my vocal and dancing is definitely not the best among the trainees, I have a big room for improvement. My ability to learn fast will ensure that I progress along with the show, and this will give the audience a feeling that they are raising me up into an idol when they see my improvements.
“Very good. It's good that you have such a clear understanding.” Kang Hui complimented as she got up from her chair, and rotated her neck slightly to relive the ache that she felt in her cervical spine.
