After Luna felt enough staring at the empty spot where her brother had disappeared, she strolled back quietly.

The guards who were surrounding the area one by one showed themselves, they were clothed in black looked very mysterious.

It was Luna idea to say no guards could come near her meeting spot with her brother, in case her father came and he sensed them, everything would go down hill, however they were close enough to aid her if she needed help.

Luna was walking in the hallway, realizing that she was being surrounded, but ignored it completely. She hugged herself when the wind blew and sent chill down her spine, she was indeed wearing too little and too thin.

Suddenly she felt something drape on her shoulder and immediately she became warm, startling, she whipped her head only to see Xiao Tianyao chiseled jaw was right above her.

He was indeed very tall as he easily towered her small features.

Indifferently Xiao Tianyao asked while his eyes focused on the empty hallway ahead. "So, where is Modama?"

Still puzzled, Luna didn't answer him immediately, she stared at the thick cloak that hung on her shoulder and adjusted it so she could hide her freezing hands. She felt better now.

"He left Azura yesterday and now heading to the Black Market." Luna answered in low voice.

"What he is doing there?"

Luna gave some thought about it and said. "I guess he will attend to the golden auction."

"What his intention?"

Luna bit down her lips harshly, it didn't mean that she didn't want to tell him, but when the idea came across her mind, somehow she felt horrible. "Only one thing that he really wants right now." Her voice trailed off.

"And what is it?" Xiao Tianyao was squinted his eyes as he looked down at her.

"He is gathering children from Xinghe." Luna said after a deep sigh. Now when she mentioned it, she felt all those things that she had done was terrifyingly wrong.

Did her father also put control on her all this time? She could see the matter at her hand clearly ever since she rarely met him.

Upon hearing that Xiao Tianyao's eyes darkened. "What your father is planning to do with those children? And why it supposed to be children?"

Ever since Xiao Tianyao won the war over Xinghe and turned that Kingdom into Azura's territory, Xiao Zi had been restricted it people movement and issued an edict to not let anyone left Xinghe.

G.o.d knew what Xiao Zi did to those people until they sought for refugees and many of them scattered around, avoiding Azura's army.

Luna shook her head. "I don't have any idea, he has never told me about his plan with children from Xinghe." She replied with honesty.

However, her statement didn't convince Xiao Tianyao completely. "So, who knows about this? Your brother?"

Luna hugged her body subconsciously as she replied meekly. "Probably…"

Before she went on mission at Xinghe to control Xiao Tianyao, she was aware that her father was planning something with Gong Xu and whatever it was, that plan didn't go well with her brother.

He looked so distress as if someone who was forced to do something against his will.

However, Luna didn't look that matter deeper. It was almost a common thing for Gong Xu to dislike almost all of Modama's plans, but pathetically couldn't reject their father order.

"Your brother knows about this." Xiao Tianyao concluded.

"I said probably." Luna glanced at him as she said sternly. "I will look into it…" She mumbled while hugging her stomach protectively.

Since she had agreed to side with Xiao Tianyao and he was bound to keep his promise, then she should go all the way to aid him.

See, baby? Mother is helping father. Mother is doing the right thing, right?

***

It was another winter with freezing wind blew from the north and the surface of the window turned icicle.

Little Luna was holding her brother tightly, wrapping him with thick blanket. Gong Xu was sick again.

She was her seven years self, looking at the white world through the blurry gla.s.s. There was nothing could be heard except the eerie howling wind and crackled branches of the death tree.

However, a little while latter there was a sound that could wake the death. It was a high pitch voice from the wailing pain of a woman.

Luna couldn't hear it well what she was saying, but it sound like she was begging for mercy. She put Gong Xu's body on the bed and sauntered across the room toward the door.

A piercing cold wind hit her face hard, squinting her eyes and held her hand on the side of her face, she tried to look at the clearing in front of her better.

Not long after that, a woman was being dragged by a man by her hair. The woman kept wailing pathetically, begging for mercy while the man was as cold as the snow around them.

They were Modama and Ming Xue, Luna and Gong Xu's mother, while another man was walking a few meters away from them, seemingly lost in his thought, staring blankly at the scene unfolded before his eyes.

Luna was somehow familiar with this situation. The memory she had buried deep in her mind. Something that she didn't want to look back and pretended it had never happened.

When finally Modama released Ming Xue, his shoulder was stiffed as he talked something to the second man.

Unfortunately, his voice was too low for Luna to hear.

However, the next moment that man walked closer to Modama as he retrieved the dagger from him, without a second thought as if his mind had lost somewhere he stabbed Ming Xue right in her chest.

Luna froze, but it has nothing to do with the cold weather. The coldness was coming from within her rendered her stupefied.

That man stabbed Luna's mother right before Modama's eyes, witnessed by their daughter.

He stabbed her again and again until the wailing and crying from the woman died down and the white pure snow tainted with glaring red blood.

Even like that, Modama still did nothing. He was standing still, watching the brutal scene in front of him heartlessly as though that woman wasn't his wife, not the mother of his daughter and son.

A soft thud sounded from behind Luna and she knew who it was.

Turned her head around, she watched horror filled in Gong Xu's eyes, he watched all of that. The boy witnessed the murder of their mother.

And suddenly everything became dark and heavy. Too heavy and suffocated.

Luna opened her mouth to gasp for an air to fill her lung, but could find nothing, her heart burn as if someone had committed arson within her.

At that moment a warm hand held her body down, shook her shoulder ever so gently as the familiar voice traveled to her ears.

"Wake up!" Xiao Tianyao's was trying to wake her up, but somehow couldn't bring her back to the reality. "It's just a dream." He said.

Initially after Luna met with Gong Xu and drank her medicine, she went to sleep. Xiao Tianyao was about to check her condition before he went to his own room when he heard a faint whimper.

He thought something had happened with her or the medicine was temper and she got a side effect, however after he came closer and looked her condition carefully, he sighed in relief, let out a breath that he didn't realize he was holding.

It was only a dream.

The bad one.

It took Xiao Tianyao more than five minutes to wake her up. As the whimper became more louder, her tears fell like a leaking dam.

Eventually her cried died down, but she still struggled to breath, her brows knitted together into a distress line as her eyes closed.

"Open your eyes, it's only nightmare." Xiao Tianyao said soothingly, it has been a while since he was talking that way to her. "It's alright now."

Feeling her consciousness come back bit by bit, Luna opened her eyes, they were filled with horror and terror, the kind of someone who had just survived the death itself.

"Tianyao…" Her voice was so soft like an ant.

Probably she didn't aware about it yet, but she was actually addressed him by his name.

Meanwhile, oddly Xiao Tianyao didn't find it disgusting when she called him like the way she used to be in these past months, in truth, he missed that sound.

"I am here." Xiao Tianyao support her shoulder and sat her up while letting her to lean against his chest. "It's only a nightmare." He said it again.

Luna could feel her tears wetted her face and hair.

What is that? It had been long time… why she remembered it now?

They were hugging like that for long time as if the discord and their complicated situation had never been there at the first place.

The night was so quiet and the sound of the wind added the tranquility between them.

Xiao Tianyao was in daze with Luna in his embrace, it felt so right, but also so wrong. He shouldn't care about her anymore. All the things between them would be ended once she gave birth to their child.

But it didn't put him at ease.

When the sound of her cry had disappeared and only left her trembling helplessly, Xiao Tianyao patted her head while asking. "What you dreamed about earlier?"

The silence fell once again inside the room as Luna didn't say anything after his question.

On the other hand, Xiao Tianyao didn't expect too much for her to answer, he just curious about what the nightmare that could cause her so desperate.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

As vicious as she was, Luna rarely cried and just now in her dream, she had cried her heart out loud with no restraint as if someone had murdered the most loved person in her life.

Which was true…

When Xiao Tianyao had forgotten the idea to ask her further and decided to accompany her through the night in silence like this, Luna opened her mouth, speaking softly as if she was talking to herself.

"… I saw my father killed my mother right before my eyes." She said.

Strangely her voice sounded so detached as though it was something that occurred on other people instead her own experiences.

Xiao Tianyao's brows knitted together, but Luna couldn't see it though.

Currently she was looking blankly at the burning incense on the table, leaving a grey ash below it, while the soft white mist dancing with the wind and disappeared into thin air.

"Why?" Xiao Tianyao asked carefully when she realized she didn't continue, actually, whether she would tell him why or not, his concerned was for her.

"My father said my mother cheated on him…" Luna blinked her eyes and a tear fell from to her hair. "He hypnotized the man and told him to kill her…"

There was an eerie silence that followed afterward. It was hard, trying to relive a memory that she had buried and almost forgotten.

But, that dream brought everything back to the surface.

"After that he let that man to kill himself…" Luna could feel Xiao Tianyao's big palm on her back, patted her soothingly. "It was winter… and my mother's blood covered the snow… it was terrifying…" Luna started to sob again.

Hearing her sobbing helplessly, Xiao Tianyao picked her up and hugged her tightly, letting the woman cried on his shoulder.

He could feel her body trembling violently and he couldn't help to wish nothing than to be able to ease her pain, but he didn't how and what he should do.

Xiao Tianyao looked grim under the dim light as his flickered with murderous intent.

At this moment there was nothing more important in his eyes, except this woman. Whether he realized it or not, his heart started to change…
