THE PROPHET MEETS AGAIN THE VETERAN SPIRIT MAGICIAN

Khatia ushered us inside the drawing room and she said⸺

「The other man who we requested for help is in the other side of this room.」

There was already a man there when we entered the room, a very familiar man to us.

「Dominic-san?」

「If it isn't Otis-san. Ah, I've told you to drop the honorifics.」

That's right, it was indeed Dominic the man who taught me about Spirit Magic the other day. He looked a bit surprised seeing us here.

「But then… Don't tell me Khatia, is it Otis-san and his friend that's going to help us neutralize the rampaging spirit?」

「Yes, that's right.」

「Oh! It would be an honor to be able to work with a party of Rank C's!」

Dominic shook our hands with a friendly smile. For me, it's a good thing to be able to work with someone I'm acquainted with.

「As a Spirit Magician, I only specialize in understanding the language of the spirits so please take care of me in this quest.　」

「Your company is very much welcomed since it's more a.s.suring that you can understand their words, Otis-san. In addition to that, we also have another magician coming with us.」

Dominic glanced from me to Rinne. He said that he observed both of our magic the other day and since then trusted our abilities.

「I thought that this would be a very difficult quest but having you two here raises our hope.」

Khatia spreads a map in front of us at the drawing-room. It's a large man that shows the road from Pioneer City to the branch school of Magic University. There, in the center of Pioneer City and the branch school lies a marked area called ‘Orchard's Entrance.'

「The request is to take care of the spirit of wind that's currently in the middle of the farms and the orchard, to calm the spirits by any means. It's up to you if you drive them away or to subjugate them.」

After hearing the whole story, Rinne took the chance to ask.

「So that's what happened… So what's the rank of the spirit?」

Spirits are ranked from lesser, mid, or higher cla.s.s. Having this cla.s.sification gives us a rough idea of their strengths and weaknesses that's why Rinne asked.

「The spirits are always in the greeneries making some tornadoes so we can't identify it's rank but from what the scouts have observed, the spirit is above the lowest level.」

It's true, a lesser spirit couldn't create something like a tornado but there's something that's bothering me.

「Khatisan, why is that a tornado keeps on moving in that place again? Do you know what caused the spirit to do that?」

Spirits doesn't go wild for no reason. They're running wild either because they have eaten too much of magical powers, or that people have done something to the spirit that made them angry. I think something happened that's why they're on a rampage.

「I don't know, either. Our scout inquired about it from the landowners of the farms and those whonwere pa.s.sing by and they all said that it came all of a sudden.」

「You mean… you haven't learned the cause of it's rampage?」

「Yes, that's why in addition to the quest on neutralizing the spirit, please find the reason for it's rampage. I would like to request for thorough investigation on the area. Of course, this is an extra work so the we'll pay you for any information you can give us.」

I get it now. So for this quest, there are two things to be done.

「So we'll have to find the cause of the spirit's rampage and calm it down.」

「Yes, Otis-sama… The difficulty of this quest is more than D-Cla.s.s which is pretty dangerous.」

Global Guild placed ranking on the difficulty of the quests. This is to warn that the certain quests is only for high ranking adventurers. It will be decided by the Company who sent the requests to the guild or by consulting with an adviser in the guild.

「Is it so difficult that they'd put the quest as a D-Cla.s.s?」

When I asked Khatia, she muttered with an apologetic look.

「Yes. It's because the quest is about the spirit where physical attacks doesn't work and worse, the reason for it's rampage is still unknown. At the request of the client, we will be giving you some potions but this quest is still very difficult.」

「Well, although D-Cla.s.s is a difficult quest, taking on quests like this can get you to the top of the guild quickly. I only received this kind of quest because I've been a magician for 10 years, and I can just augment my strength using my experience… still, this quest is making me nervous.」

Dominic mused but he was surprised when he turned to our direction.

「It seems that you two aren't nervous at all, you're very composed.　」

「Is that so?　」

「Ah, as expected of Rank Cs. Good thing you two don't have such haughty att.i.tudes… I've meet many adventurers who are Rank C but after receiving a D-Cla.s.s quest, they'd act too proud but you two don't.」

“Eh? What's there to be proud of?”

To be honest, it's just natural that physical attacks don't work on spirits and even when we don't have any idea what caused the spirit to go haywire⸺because it isn't the usual battle with the evil G.o.d's factions, I don't really feel nervous about this. Though it doesn't mean we can't do anything about it at all.

Ranking is only a form of guideline, and so is the difficulty of the request.

「Dominic-san say's it's a difficult one so I thought I shouldn't let my guard down.」

Rinne said with conviction. Khatia and Dominic smiled in surprise as they looked back and forth in the of us.

They said to us, though I think this it's just their impression that we were being careful because we're newcomers.

「We're also glad to work with you. In that case, let's go back inside and get those supplies of potions the guild. In that way, we can start the investigation and suppress the rampaging spirit.」

「Okay, Otis-san.」

「Everyone, please be careful!」

Afterwards, we received the potions from the Global Guild and got ready. Khatia send us off as we started our journey towards the place where the spirit of the wind is wreaking havoc.
