〰 Dylan 〰

I sat against the wall outside her door, brus.h.i.+ng my hand against my lips at the thought of Khole kissing me.

She kissed me...

And by G.o.ds, I loved every moment of it.

Cade was happy that she had come to us and looked at us with such a longing that we felt. I knew she had no idea what it meant to have a mate, however, I knew that for once that I wasn't involved with her for a special gain.

For the first time since meeting her, I felt more than just hate for her and her kind.

I truly cared for her...

I leaned my head against the wall, closing my eyes while I listened to her move around the room. She must have just finished her shower and was dressing in the clothes that Nava brought earlier.

Tomorrow I should see if she would like to go and get some of her own clothes. I had plenty of money still in my account that the demons can't trace us from, but I was worried that since Zavier is aware of my ident.i.ty if they were closing in on me.

I have to speak with Pairs soon.

There was a shuffle a few feet away from me as I snapped my gaze to the two older women who were walking by. Each of them gave me kind smiles which surprised me since I've gained a bad reputation around here.

"Look at the poor man. Protecting his Khole. So adorable." One older woman cooes when I smiled, slightly embarra.s.sed by her words.

Was I really as desperate as I made it seem?

"Don't embarra.s.s the lad. He's just worried about her. Those insolent people tried harming the girl. Don't listen to her, child." The woman tells me with a sweet smile as I gave her a small smile in return. Hopefully, us talking wouldn't alert Khole.

The ladies didn't say another word, laughing rather loudly when pa.s.sing by making me sigh and pull my knees up against me. I rested my arms on them, placing my head between my arm and letting myself close my eyes. Indulging in the memory of Khole's lips on mine.

〰 Khole 〰

Those old ladies said that Cade was outside?

I leaned against the beside the door, their steps receding into the night when I thought of Cade and our heated moment earlier. His lips were like pure magic and I was more than happy to let him be my first kiss.

I was also more than happy that he didn't laugh in my face about my advances towards him. Rather he accepted them and even kissed me back, this had to have been the best day in my life.

Though I was feeling rather bad that he was outside of my room, guarding it like a loyal angel with their G.o.d. It was making me both fl.u.s.tered and almost giddy.

After our kiss, we ate some delicious food. That was after Cade had taken a bite of everything, ensuring that all the food was safe for me. I knew it was because Cade would never do a thing like that, but it was sweet of him to continue doing so for me.

I was a little surprised that Dylan never showed up today since I had shot him with a burst of magic, but maybe I finally knocked him into some sense. He needed to learn how to speak to a d.a.m.n woman.

And then I had to think of Faye speaking to me about seeing some seer. I wasn't sure what she wanted to know about me, but I outright refused it since I was still unsure about ending my life.

Don't get me wrong, I cared for Cade and the others. I just can't get past everything that's happened.

All the horror and beatings...

It's something that I'll always be afraid of and even here, people still want to hurt me. I hadn't even done anything to them and I've brought ill feelings.

Though my protector is here, how long will he be here?

How much longer can he endure the pain I was indirectly causing him?

Would it be safer to just disappear?

I thought on and on, unsure of what I should do but right now I knew what to do at the moment. There was no way I'd let Cade remain outside my door even though I asked him not to bother staying the night.

Slowly, I opened the door and saw him beside the door. His knees were pulled up to his chest while he rested his head on his arms. The sight of him resting almost hurting my heart.

How much longer can I put him through this...?

"Cade," I whispered, kneeling down and placing a hand on his cold arm. "Cade. C-Come on." I had learned over the last few hours not to mess his name up and it finally felt good to say it to him.

He lifted his head, giving me a sleeping smile when I softened to him and grabbed his hands. I stood, trying my best to lift him but he didn't budge from his spot on the ground.

"C-Come," I spoke softly once again while he looked around and nodded, looking extremely exhausted. He must have had a hard day with all the fighting and everything. If I knew anything, he would be like me.

Insomnia was a real b.i.t.c.h at times.

He got off the ground as I lead him inside and pulled him towards the bed. Carefully, he followed along and let me shove him onto the bed once the covers were undone. Cade's eyes immediately shut after hitting the bed, exhaustion finally taking over while I undid his shoes and tucked the covers around him.

Quiet snores left him as I stood there for a moment and stared down at his beautiful face. His black hair covering his eyes while the cut on his lip and the bruise on his face healed quickly. The scratches on his forearm healing with supper speed making me blink my surprise.

So demons heal quickly as well.

Unable to pry myself away from him, I sat on the bed beside him and brushed some of his hair away from his face. I couldn't stop touching him, every small connection of our skins made sparks explode. It felt truly amazing and comforting to be around him.

I wish I knew why. I never thought I'd ever meet anyone like him. I never even thought I'd feel comfortable around anyone, but I had the urge just to curl up in front of him and sleep.

What would he do if I did that?

Kissing someone was one thing but sleeping...?

I contemplated, watching Cade s.h.i.+fted until he was hugging me to his body. A soft hum left me as I ran my fingers through his hair, lightly scaring his scalp before I sighed and stood up.

No.

It would be best if I did not sleep beside him. Not because I didn't trust him, but because I didn't trust myself.

Which was so weird to me.

I sighed deeply, dragging the desk chair against the bed beside Cade's sleeping body. Taking the small blanket near the bottom of the bed and wrapping it around myself. Slowly I felt myself dozing off with the help of his soft snores.

〰 Dylan 〰

I woke up uncomfortable, noticing I was resting in a bed and the small clock on the nightstand telling me it was nearly two in the morning. My memories of the previous night were still cloudy as I turned around and noticed a small form curled up in the chair beside me.

Khole...?

What was I doing in here?

I pushed the blanket away from me, grabbing her off the chair and slipping her in the bed. She woke up with a tired yawn while I felt the urge to yell at her for giving me her bed.

"Mhm. Cade. Lay with me." She mumbles, her stuttering ceasing in her tired and seductive voice of hers. I felt myself growing aroused and prayed to the G.o.ds she wouldn't notice because I wanted nothing more than to lay down with her.

I couldn't speak so I pressed my palm on her cold cheek before maneuvering to sleep behind her. Her body felt so small and so delicate I was worried I'd hurt her if I rested my arm in the crook of her waist.

Though I was more pleased when she grabbed my arm and placed it in her grasp, letting her fingers roam around mine. She was definitely not sleeping and I was more than okay to hold her tightly.

We stayed like for what felt like hours, her body stealing all my body heat as she teased my hand with her angel-like touches. It was almost antagonizing not to touch her, but I was letting her take control for now.

It was what she wanted right at the moment.

"Cade...?" She mumbles, her voice sounding like a siren making me tighten my grip around her. Wanting her to say my name in the same kind of s.e.xy voice. "Why don't you say anything? Are you mute because you chose to or because you can't?" She asks, expecting me to answer her back while I gripped her tighter to me wanting nothing more than speaking her thoughts to me.

I never thought a woman could do this to a demon but... I was starting to grow more and more fascinated with the woman.

"I dream of your voice." She says after a few moments, s.h.i.+fting so she could look at me. Her hands were against my chest while softly rubbing the fabric against me. "I imagine what it'd sound like if you would speak. Imagine what I'd hear other than laughs and growls." She teases making me smile sadly at her.

Oh, I'd give anything to redo how we were introduced.

She knew me as Cade, the sweet mute, and Dylan, the angry brute.

Two polar opposites she wouldn't connect.

How right Cade was when we first met her...

"I may sound desperate, but I'd accept your voice even if it sounded like a girl." Khole jokes, her purple eyes staring up in mine while I grinned at her.

If only that were the case.

Cade urged me to speak to her, to a.s.sure her that I didn't sound like a woman. Though I was afraid that if I spoke then she'd feel betrayed and would hurt with realization.

Was it worth the risk?

"Maybe one day then." She hummed, not delighted but not upset. "I'll hear you one day and when that day comes. I will wait patiently." Khole pressed her lips against my jaw before resting her head against my chest, quick to doze off.

I sighed, thankful that she stopped asking questions but worried that she'd continue asking me about my voice. Her words implanted in my mind as I willed my mind to fall asleep, listening to her soft breathing.
